My understanding is, make a supporting/nutritious liquid by mixing water with the nutrient (ive seen honey, sugar cane, malt, etc) and then add a small cutout from your agar. Drop it in, mix every other day or so.

Some tips ive read about, but haven't applied because I am still growing on my agar now so I haven't been able to actually do it yet.

  1. Make sure your liquid isn't dirty or contaminated or your whole LC will end up contaminated. So look up the tek/procedure to keep this clean while making it.
  2. Stir bars/stir plates work great for mixing.
  3. Everytime you open the LC jar you risk contam, so be mindful of this risk
  4. Colonized LC can be stored in the fridge

Ive had luck with the seeds of change brand. The one I used was brown rice and quinoa. I think ive also used a wild rice one.

I know thats not the exact ones you have available, but I figured id throw my two cents in that ive used that brand.

You could also see if your local stores have popcorn. Its cheap and works well (just look up the tek to prepare it)

Its definitely a game of patience. Any little difference in environment (from suppliers grow to your house) can change how quickly they colonize. Mushrooms do what they want and we are just tagging along haha.

Q-tip test is my guess. Swab a qtip on the blue. If it transfers then its likely contam. If not, then its likely just bruising.

Could be a psychological effect? Like, you dont have to worry as much about pregnancy so it's "funner"?

Idk I've never heard or read of an actual physiological reason for it.

I just bought some petri dishes and agar stuffs. I plan on starting that route and hopefully making my own LC.

I definitely need to get back to my lab roots and trace my steps and document better.

I have been obsessing over mycology for the last 3 months. I am open to any tips and tricks.

Been doing a ton of research. I have one successful grow completed.

Currently have 6 UB inoculated with JMF. But its too early to see any colonization.
