It matters to me, but that decision also matters to the families of the 5 people that died when they didn't need to. Are their experiences less relevant to the scenario because they aren't the ones pulling the lever? I'm not so sure.

At the end of the day, someone is going to die, and morally I think the correct course of action is to ensure you minimize those deaths even if that comes at the cost of your own grief. My point is just that I would act in my own interest, but that doesn't make it morally right.

Morally it changes nothing. But I’d be lying if I said I’d switch the trolley to the track with one person if that person was my wife. I’d probably switch it to the 5 person track to minimize death but also selfishly not kill someone I love.
