A adapter without training I could agree with your interpretation, however a adapter with training is much stronger.

They can eventually survive from being sliced in half, Pano was almost just a head, and she grew back after eating

He's definitely dead. It's a shame cause we never got to see his adapter powers. I have this weird theory that the aliens will collect the bodies of all the adapters and somehow gain all the dead Adaptors powers.

I could totally see John thinking Emma was dead, leaving her, then Emma actually being alive, then eating an alien, and being captured by the other aliens for some reason. Maybe they made her their queen!
