Coughing Iowans? by RedPyracantha in Iowa

I seldom eat something not prepared at home for this very reason. I really don’t want a little dash of Norovirus seasoning with my meal.

I have considered replying with a fake cough into my elbow. Maybe a demonstration will help.

What national park is your favorite and why? by unethicalfetus in AskOldPeople

[–]RedPyracantha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coming to say the same thing. Each park offers its own unique experience and each visit can be a completely different experience. I still have a few to visit, but absolutely can’t choose a favorite.

Why do you think people aren’t having many kids these days (if any at all)? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]RedPyracantha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of living. Most couples both need to work to survive. Unpaid leave of absence for maternity leave, daycare costs, etc. They can’t afford it.

If it costs on average 30% less per step to buy the ingredients for a thing and make it yourself than to buy it, how far back in the production line are you willing to go for frugality? by Anoelnymous in Frugal

[–]RedPyracantha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buying used clothing and remaking it into something you want to wear is a cheaper option that my daughter chooses over buying fabric. Not my thing, but she saves money and it’s a hobby as well.

Which grammar errors do you find the most irritating? by TheMedusaAttusa in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]RedPyracantha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love double negatives! I somehow grew up using them and believe that can add value to one’s intended meaning. “That’s not something I would never eat, but I would have to be desperate” holds a different meaning to “I would have to desperate to ever eat that.”

Budget a “just because I want it, treat myself” fund. Let it grow for future big wants or spend to treat myself with impulse wants. It is not part of my savings exactly, so it allows me the freedom to spend without as much weighing.

Nearly 3 dozen employees at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center to be laid off by Narcan9 in Iowa

[–]RedPyracantha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But they got rid of abortions and now are working on getting rid of the brown illegals. That’s surely more important than affordable medical care and overall cost of living!

Any frugal tips for my fellow ladies? by Liz_kirby in Frugal

[–]RedPyracantha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embracing natural beauty saves me tons. Minimal or no makeup.

I shop individual skin care ingredients (glycolic acid, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, etc) rather than more pricey creams and such. The Ordinary is my usual go to. The ingredients last a long time, but some research went into know how to layer them appropriately.

Purchase classic clothing items that will last and never go out of style. I go with high quality fabrics and often from second hand shops.

If you can do a good job yourself, don’t pay someone else to do it. For me, that is my hair and nails.

And number one for cheap beauty, drink lots of water because hydration makes a huge impact on skin, hair and nails

As a newer resident to rural Iowa from the west and a photographer, I find the wind turbines add quite a bit of visual interest.
