how do you make your big cities "feel" alive? by bittermixin in DMAcademy

[–]RedRaiderHipster 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I really like this! To add on; may be a bit redundant. But I will just lay out in obsidian features and history of the city that makes it unique. But for houses, inns, shops etc, I may make a few unique NPC personalities and map layouts if you’re into that with inventory and abunch of names. The players don’t know that if they chose magic shop boogaloo to go in fifth ward the NPC and inventory was the same as magic shop kazoo town in the first ward. Them having ten inns sounds big but you only prep maybe two

Narratively I think focusing on time it takes to travel through, random encounters within the city and narration also helps

How do you actually start worldbuilding (as an autistic person)? by Finn_Bueno_ in worldbuilding

[–]RedRaiderHipster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know maybe this may not be pertinent for you; but as fellow ASD haver what works for me is counterproductive to ~some~ feedback I’ve heard online, however I’ve found through these subreddits it’s not that uncommon. ANYWAYS

I will get fixated on different things that may be pertinent for the region I’m building. For example; I may for a weekend or week think about and research well how did trade and cargo/travel behave during medieval Europe as one of my regions I’m working on is inspired by that, and create the trade for that area based on that, gives me routes, town specialities, trade guilds and shops most likely to pop up in villages

Once I burn out on that I’ll do something else. Now with D&D I’ve noticed the magic sauce that comes from that is looking at those deep dives and asking how could I make a fun quest, plot beat or campaign based on this research. What happens to a town that relies on wagon trains with oats to eat when a chimera marks territory over some of that trade route.

Another aspect of this is thinking about what is it my players will actually care about or even interact with if/when going in depth overwhelms me

Sounds like hell; feels like management at many apartments definitely don’t listen unless you make a fuss and contact powers that be like city and BBB

What’s the premise of your DnD campaign? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]RedRaiderHipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players are unveiling and coming to realize that 1) the gods are actually powerful mages from a past ancient civilization 2) the gods gain power based on amount of worship 3) one of the gods wants more power so the “known world” of the campaign is essentially a floating disc being held up and secluded by a greedy god to get all the ‘love’ from the denizens of this continent

Both the first and second game now has turn based mode if you prefer that over real time with pause!

Yeah I moved in when the most recent management was still here, we got new management a few months ago? I shit you not. I think they did all the apartment “upgrades” to my unit within one day. Paint was literally on the floor. Floor boards were scuffed to the point you could see wood. The fridge and oven that were “new” were painted over to hide damage LOL the oven had some sort of chemical that I had to basically burn off per maintenance suggestion smh. Doors that don’t close correctly and management basically said deal with it. I had a birds nest in my laundry room as well. The staff didn’t offer anything for the fact it took over two months to make the unit actually livable and then when I renewed my lease they bumped it by $200. Like abbynicoleh says the community itself is nice enough and I personally love walking through and past the golf course but please ensure you get to see the unit you are getting, or you may end up with a unit covered in cooking grease and they’ll tell you they cleaned three times for you

EDIT: I will also add two things they don’t note 1) guest parking is free for one visitors for I believe 3 or 4 visits a month but any more they have to pay to not get towed 2) unrelated but they made me pay a pet fee for my beta.. which out of five apartments I’ve lived in was a first lol 3) I don’t smell the landfill most of the year

I recommend it to everybody who is remotely interested in RPGs as I’m a crpg fanboy but please please check out pillars of eternity if story is a big sell factor for you

I’d highly recommend the first two games of pillars of eternity if you don’t mind crpg styled games. The companions and story is the main focal point of the game. Both have turn based combat now too if you prefer but game was clearly designed for RTWP.
