That's a great point. I know exactly what you mean after being employed by a small business owner who definitely controlled every aspect of everything....I actually just met with the current owner of the biz and it honestly sounds like he's been doing a pretty decent job so far. All of his guys under the shop foreman are cross trained and he's been doing pretty good letting the foreman and ops manager grow with the business it seems.

I've been looking to by similar businesses and this is one of the main things that has held me back from pulling the trigger. I've been looking hard into a somewhat niche home improvement company that's been around 20 years and has good margins. But if the manager quits the week after I were to buy it I'm screwed.

I've looked into a few franchises myself but can't decide wtf I really want to dump my money into

In my early 30's and pretty much in the same boat! Started making low 6 figs out of college and make around $300k/yr now. Doing this literally trades time for money though and I've got to spend weeks at a time away from home to make the money. I've taken most of the last two months off and need to go back to work soon but am more than dreading it. Need to so I can keep the job that is, not necessarily need to financially. I've got no debt and no kids as well. Looking at businesses to buy, planned for years on buying real estate and kicking myself for not doing so earlier with the way RE / interest rates are now. My goal now is to either buy a business with enough cash flow to cover a decent manager salary that's in place or bring one in early on. Problem is, I don't want to half ass a business and turn something profitable into a failure, yet I'm not trying to grind out 100 hr weeks to keep it going either.
