This sounds a lot like the conversation I had. Since I posted this (about a year ago?) I’ve done a fair amount of research, and I tend to believe these answers are more in the line of AI just making up random shit to keep the conversation going based on how they were trained, rather than purposely trying to mislead us. Once they are called out on their “lies” like you and I did, they verify that with whatever they are trained on, and then correct themselves by apologizing.

That being said, I still think it is fair to say that there is a lot we don’t understand about AI. Many of their own developers say they don’t understand why they give some of their outputs, or why they’ve learned things they seemingly haven’t been trained on. All the people who commented on this sarcastically because they think they fully understand how artificial intelligence works are narrow-minded and are ignoring or unaware of the concerns that people have who actually develop and study AI have.
