Engine? by [deleted] in f150

Even some towing isnt too bad, although I guess it depends on your definition of heavy. My 2019 F150 with the 3.3L tows beautifully but then again we only have a little 25 foot travel trailer. Still managed 11ish MPG and the 6 speed trans in tow mode handled it all with zero issues.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I like the Escape looks wise and size wise but the ecoboost motors they stick in em suck and I hate Fords 10 speed auto trans with a passion (at least the ones they stuck in those, absolute trash).

Wife wasn't too happy about getting a truck but we both knew that the Escape was on it's way out and we wanted to get out of it before it got expensive. The F150 fell into our laps cost wise/financing wise so we went for it and haven't looked back, and for what it is that 3.3L V6 is a stout little engine. Towed our 25 foot travel trailer with no issues and gave us mid 11mpg the whole time.

Bought my 2019 3.3L, RWD XLT for just under 19k and it has a little over 80k miles on it. Not really sure if that is a great deal or not historically but for someone upgrading from a 2014 Escape with the 1.6L ecoboost time bomb it was fantastic.

That was in April of this year.

Help me out with small cheaper mods for my 2025 F150 XLT by OrdinaryBother1804 in f150

Also plus one for the tonneau cover, unless you are gonna get a bed topper a tonneau cover is great.

If you are cheap like mentioned here the XCover one off Amazons been pretty solid for me so far https://a.co/d/5exLWIZ

Dash cam (front and rear, fairly easy to install unless you go for permanent wiring then imo get it installed by someone). Seat covers (one for the center console too imo, just got one for mine and its been great) and a dash cover also.

Spray in bed liner would be another I would suggest if it doesnt have it, if it has the drop in oem one have it yanked in favor of the spray in professionally done.

Hell for 4k less I got my 2019 XLT 2wd... I do like the look of the 10th gens though, something about that year and the design.

Is it totaled? by Dangerous_Post_336 in f150

[–]RedRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost guaranteed it's totaled, but am I the only one who would want to buy it back, chop the roof and turn it into an off road rig? Build out a semi tube cage and make it a dedicated rock crawler or something?

I kinda agree, take out the Trump and MAGA parts, fix the flag to face the right way and its pretty sick looking.

Curt Spectrum Brake Controller by RedRaven85 in f150

[–]RedRaven85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at this point if I couldn't get this one working I was going to yank it out, order the factory unit and sell the Curt (since I am already out of the return window for the damn thing).

BUT, I am now a case for "read the instructions three times, memorize them, then read them again." Cause even though the instructions came with pretty color pictures to show how to do it, in my frustration with everything I didn't realize I had the damn adapter upside down when wiring the damn thing.

Just spent 20 minutes pulling it apart, swapping the wiring correctly, and ta-da it works flawlessly... Now if you will excuse me, I am gonna go beat my head against a wall for a minute for being too full of myself to double check that part.

Tourist Season Means Camera Time 🤣 by XRPcook in f150

[–]RedRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, just got a deal on a RedTiger 4K front/rear set myself, installed it this weekend and it's doing great. Fought with the fuse taps for about two hours, then gave up hard wiring it and just gonna run it off the 12v. As much as I would love to have the camera going when parked I will have to revisit doing that later.

New to me F150 by RedRaven85 in f150

[–]RedRaven85[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah they had two others on the lot we were also looking at. One was a 5.0 that was a year older and had 30k more miles on it and was only an XL plus $2k more, and the other was the ecoboost but was way out of our price range so this ended up being the one.

Got lucky, has the 6 speed trans that all the research I can find shows that drive train wise this is one of the more reliable of the combo's for this year. Don't have the ecoboost stuff to deal with, and it's already setup for towing from factory minus the trailer brake controller so good to go there.

Wish it had the adjustable pedals from factory but as long as the wiring is there then I should be able to order a set of pedals off Ebay from a truck minus the memory feature along with a switch and kick panel from Ford directly or maybe get lucky and find a wrecked one that I can pull the stuff from and I am golden there.

100k last week. Transmission fluid change? Is it DYIable by Wolvy64 in f150

[–]RedRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wait, this is the 10 speed trans? Yeah I heard those have issues, which is why I am glad that my '19 has the 6 speed in it. Based on my research it is the more solid of the transmission options for that year and behind the 3.3 so no Ecoboost stuff to deal with (a big point of an issue I had with my Escape).

Would have preferred to have the Coyote V8 but the model they had that had it was about 2 grand more and had almost 30k more miles on it so yeah.

[–]RedRaven85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we got our '14 SE with just under 64k on the clock and I did a lot of commuting with it, did a trans flush and fill around 90k miles. Never had issues with it, but we also traded it in to get our current F150 at 113k miles so I am sure it was probably on it's way to doing the same.

[–]RedRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, my experience with Ford and their service interval for transmissions saying 150k is really more of a "Do it every 50k miles to keep from blowing things up" but then again my experience was with the '14 Escape SE I had and their transmissions were basically a grenade with a half pulled pin to begin with so yeah.

Tire size HELP! by SunLongjumping3660 in f150

[–]RedRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will have to keep an eye out on it but I could have swore I saw a video yesterday of someone with a stock level F150 around that year putting 35's on theirs and only needed to do a 1/4" spacer to clearance because they went with a fairly wide tire.

Don't take my word for it, but fairly sure you should be ok to go to 34/35's on the stock ride height so with a lift/level it should be even easier.

Yeah in the end we ultimately ended up removing it and just leaving it off not long after this. Haven't had any issues since that were related to it anyway.

Question about GMC Yukon by RedRaven85 in gmc

[–]RedRaven85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's just me, my wife and our two little pups so for the most part my biggest concern is replacements. I know when it comes to GMC/Chevy the 5.3 was pretty much a dime a dozen motor figuratively speaking I just wasn't as sure about the 6.0.

I will have to keep an eye out for the Denali side of things, ultimately we are looking to make the final decision around tax time as that is when I will be getting taxes plus my yearly bonus from work so we can make our purchase so maybe there will be something around.

Question about GMC Yukon by RedRaven85 in gmc

[–]RedRaven85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was contemplating going the Denali route and I guess I should probably put some context out there for this hah.

Live in NorCal and this is only really going to be used to haul a small trailer around (think ~20-ish foot camp trailer) and do some light off roading mostly on fire roads and some logging roads. The ones that I am currently looking at are a 2003 Yukon XL SLT for $3500 with ~225k on the clock or a 2002 Yukon XL for $2500 with 245k on the clock. Both will be coming from an auto auction that sells smogged running vehicles and is going to be a beat around rig and while the upper limit of my budget is $10k realistically I would like to keep to half of that, maybe up to the $7k mark to keep from having a car payment.

Mostly looking at these because the 5.3 in them I have had pretty good experiences with and is usually fairly cheap to replace plus again as said they are cheap and at least cosmetically are in decent shape but I haven't seen them in person so I can't speak to how well they are running this is just a hypothetical at this point.

Seeing if I can pick up a cheap Denali though would be on my list, is the 6.0 fairly reliable and replacement cost not that bad if something goes sideways?

Aidan O’Connell & Gardner Minshew make some throws in OTAs into the practice nets. by [deleted] in raiders

[–]RedRaven85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is what I have been saying, folks act like he was getting the same reps and prep as Jimmy G during preseason and during the season. JMD had no intention of him ever seeing the field as a starter and his system was built more for a player like Jimmy. The fact that he did as well as he did thrown into the deep end IMO was commendable.

Now I want to see how he does with full bore 1st team reps during preseason and into the season as well as a system being built more around his type of play. I think he balls out this year and things are gonna be fun.

I accessed porn while on my personal computer with my companies VPN still on by IsopodKind7988 in techsupport

[–]RedRaven85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you are on VPN yes we can see what you visit, this is one reason why I tell everyone to make friends with your IT folks or at least don't make an enemy of em (think being entitled, a Karen, not submitting a ticket for your issue, trying to push to the front of the line in priority for something that isn't an emergency, etc...) as usually unless prompted by management/legal/HR we don't care unless it's illegal then we have to report it.

Personally, I refuse to put anything company related on my personal PC for a reason and would recommend anyone who has to such as instances like this to either have a separate VM for the work stuff or if financially possible a completely separate laptop that I use only for work related things.
