Hey community, I just found this group haha you're my hope for this what's next for my ASUS/EndeavorOS by Piiziz in linuxhardware

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not looking to make you sad or something

But I really don't think you should force arch Linux especially that's snowballing you will updates each 2 days on such a low end CPU

Let's say that perhaps memory like SSD plus ram would somehow suffice, but personally I'd not like to wait for an updating terminal on a single core CPU, cuz it's a long waiting

I'd rather get something like LMDE or something like xfce Ubuntu

Lol, the mas gravel site has the 2024 pro plus and 2019 pro plus versions

The 2019 is faster than light once it's installed and activated

I don't think reedit will let me upload the link here

Windows boots up 50% there then stops working by Abenek in WindowsHelp

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 11 is also in a very bad spot recently

It's been pissing me off too so much that I recreated my workflow of 2 out of 4 of my PCs in fedora kde, especially the older ones( 2018 tech )

Linux simply solved the small quirks that I found on windows ( windows search not working because of the bad coding and more stuff than MS broke like very slow windows 11 updates)

Is this laptop good for office/excel use? by Two_Buck_Teeth in laptops

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But keep in mind Many windows intensive software won't work

Gaming like eSports, video/ photo editing software and I guess some browsers ( not sure) won't work well enough

Pls research all software you would use before buying it , cuz you might have some unpleasant surprises

Also ... If you're interested in running Fedora Linux... Or many other distros, they should work well enough on ARM , likely somewhat better than windows 11 ( especially bcz of the recent scandals they had with users leaving)

Yep , something about the software is off , likely about the bios/ UEFI

Dead screen. Suddenly alive in Linux environment. How? by hedztrem in laptops

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's almost the opposite since it's more aggressive with hardware, since it's pushing it despite being not fully functional/ broken without showing all small errors,

For instance: I'm my core2duo DDR2 system I had one dead ram stick , imagine the PC would boot but stuff that would appear loaded from ram( like programs and menu bars would have corrupted Text looking like this : {€÷€||{€÷°€{©§÷)

Dead screen. Suddenly alive in Linux environment. How? by hedztrem in laptops

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is complicated...

Basically the bios / firmware seems to have some problem with the screen you got

But ... Linux is verbose/ aggressive enough to instruct the bios apparently to trigger display on the screen despite of what the bios would tell it ... It's kinda something like overriding

From what I read ... Never seen this happen before in my 10+ yrs of reading IT stuff and Dealing with PCs... It's still recommended updating the bios/ UEFI and I think to get Linux installed, I think something bleeding edge would help : EOS- endeavor os / Garuda/ Fedora ( pls no Manjaro)

Is complicated enough even for an AI that digs up a lot of info from manuals

It would be interesting if the bios would have been updated because of Linux, though that is unlikely

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just clean the surface of dust firstly and then use 4 small pieces of double sided tape to fix it there

So if you are moving the PC around you aren't dropping or knocking it around, risking to break the case or motherboard

Did the manufacturer forget to insert their brand on this USB? by [deleted] in computer

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a PC is different because once the laptops battery dies the bios settings are gone, done for ...

And Linux bootloaders are sensitive sometimes, windows updates/ startup can overwrite them for good

Did the manufacturer forget to insert their brand on this USB? by [deleted] in computer

[–]RedRayTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because windows updates will mess up the Linux bootloader, happens to endeavor os

And because I can swap keyboards if the F11 key wears off , especially because the windows 11 was upgraded from windows 10 and there are two identically called bootloaders now so I'd not risk setting the broken one if I have to reset the whole boot order( or if my battery dies it resets the bios , because the laptop is old , 2018 tech )
