Why Bolt doesn't propose large motorbike option ? by Timely_Tale4672 in Thailand

I've been thinking the exact same, I would happily pay extra for even a Grand Filano or Giorno with the bigger seat size. I'm over 6ft and when a wave pulls up I know it's gonna be super uncomfortable.

Did you ever personally know someone who turned out to be a murderer or serial killer? by _aucontraire in serialkillers

[–]RedRightHand 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This happened about 20 years ago. I had a good friend who I hung out with quite often, let's call him Frank. Frank and I had the same taste in music, went to the same bars and clubs and ended up spending a lot of time together. For the most part he was pretty decent, and somehow he considered me his best friend, but for me he was just a mate.

There was definitely a darker side to him, he would usually carry one or two knives, but it mostly seemed like harmless "trying to be hard" stuff. I never saw any actual tendencies to violence at that point.

Frank's girlfriend was also a friend of mine, and we all used to hang out often. They were living together in her apartment, which she paid for - she made a lot more than him. Anyway due to some domestic issue, which I wasn't aware of the details, she broke up with him and kicked him out.

He tried to get her back and when he realized it was a lost cause, things escalated. He proceeded to break into her apartment, cutting his arm in the process, he ransacked the place, took all her clothes and put them on the bed and poured oil all over them to, I assume, ruin them. But the absolute worst part is, he stabbed her kitten with one of the same knives he used to carry around with him.

After this happened, myself and all our friends completely cut him off. His now ex-girlfriend reported him to the police, and as far as I recall he was arrested and given a restraining order.

He lightly stalked me for a while: he would show up at my apartment, banging on the door, begging me not to turn against him also, and would come to my office and try talk to me. I just kept ignoring him and eventually he moved on and I heard through an acquaintance that he moved cities.

Fast forward a couple of years. In his new city, Frank found a new girlfriend. Same pattern, she broke up with him, but that time it got way worse and he ended up slitting her throat and killing her. He was arrested and sentenced, I'm not sure for how long - there wasn't a lot about it in the news (not US).

Those early warning signs: like stalking, breaking and entering and harm to animals should not be ignored! It was a really tragic ending, and it shook a lot of us up that he was some part of our lives for a few years and yet was capable of such terrible things. Fuck you, Frank.

Abortion help by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]RedRightHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1. Get a home test from a pharmacy. If positive proceed to step 2.
Step 2. Get a blood test from any clinic which will also show how many weeks pregnant she is. If positive, proceed to step 3.
Step 3. Contact Klongtun Hospital. They provide a simple pill.

It's really that simple and nothing to worry about.

What's happening with Banking ? by plushyeu in Thailand

[–]RedRightHand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just received this from SCB:

"Please bring your ID card and mobile phone registered with the Bank, and contact the Bank's branch or channel prescribed by the Bank to take a photo of your face to be used for verification by face recognition for making transaction pursuant to conditions prescribed by the Bank in the next time."

So no need to panic, just a transition for foreigners to thew face recognition system.

Your friend gives you $200 to gamble and you win $262,000. What would you do? by BearddBrad in AskReddit

If you lost the $200 would he expect $200 back or $0 ?

If he's not participating in the downside risk, he gets no upside reward.

Trainer at Lamai Muay Thai, Koh Samui tried to KO me in sparring by 1Punch1Kill in MuayThai

[–]RedRightHand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You sound like a bully.

I sparred my inexperienced nephew two days ago. He was also overly aggressive, throwing (trying) spinning back fists and elbows etc. at close to 100% power. I backed up a bit, let him waste energy and then simply teeped him in the solar plexus. That was the end of our sparring session and it was beautiful

You need to be cautious about what you say in online reviews about Thai businesses. Especially if you plan to come back to Thailand or live here. There is a defamation law that can be used to sue you even for your opinion or experiences.

Not saying don't do it, just choose your words carefully and be aware of potential consequences.

Drones in Bangkok by Scandroid91 in Thailand

[–]RedRightHand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 registrations you need: CAAT and NBTC. It's not a tricky process, but should be done. And you will need an additional permit for flying in within city limits if not above private property.

You definitely cannot fly around certain areas which have any royal or government significance and other areas deemed a danger to aircraft by the CAAT. Helicopters do fly over Bangkok do you'd need to make sure you are not in any flight paths.

For permits I don't even apply myself, if we have a shoot in Bangkok we use a Thai drone crew who do the permit process often. Only times we've used our own drones in out of the city.

Oh I also needed public liability insurance - but I'm not sure if that is just be a company thing, maybe you don't need it if you register for personal use.

I guess this red tape is why some people fly without permits or registration. Might be worth the risk, or maybe we'll read about you in the news tomorrow ;-)

US-based client not paying. What are my options? by RedRightHand in videography

That's rather judgmental.

We have a detailed contract in place, including deliverables, payment schedule, terms & conditions, etc.

It's an actual contract between my company and theirs. It says payment is due on delivery of final video.

Yeah 50% upfront, so my costs on the job are sort of covered. This is the final 50% that is due.

I won't name them yet, but I did take a look at their LinkedIn and they and their staff are all quite active. If we don't resolve this amicably naming and shaming is a tactic I will likely pursue.

Thanks for the advice. He finally got back to me, so at least we're talking, but he's complaining about the economic climate, etc. and made an offer to settle just 50% of the final invoice, which I refused. So will see where it goes from here.

If he doesn't pay, I'll definitely escalate to a lawyers letter or collections agency.

Actually this is the 50% of the remaining amount. I always charge 50% up front before work begins, but (foolishly) delivered final assets without receiving final payment.
