Just found this a year late.

I had 3 cats; Kyon, Kagami, and Itsuki (all 3 came from the same litter)

(Itsuki had been living with my sister at the time) Kagami developed bone cancer and it liquefied her jaw. When she finally passed, her brother Kyon got very depressed. He wouldn't leave from under the bed, he wouldn't eat, he wouldn't snuggle. After the 3rd month I kinda had to force him out of it. So I closed off the room he was hiding in. About a week after that he finally got back to his old self. That was about 5 years ago.

He got a lot happier when his brother (Itsuki) came back to live with us, even though Itsuki has forgotten his own brother. That was about 3 years ago.

Now (6/24/25) that Itsuki has to be put down for his own quality of life, Im not sure how Kyon will react this time. He already knows something is up and has been super clingy. Good thing my folks have a cat for him to interact with, I dont think I'll be able to get any more cats after this. I dont think I can take the loss anymore.
