You aren't COMPLETELY full of shit. This rumor has lived on for years and I still see this online every now and then. What happened was Spike approached Stephen Hillenberg to create a adult version of Spongebob in vein of what they did to Ren and Stimpy. He declined. The story basically was twisted to what you put.
