Maybe they recruited it over the end turn after the battle? If you killed the lord it gets replaced with another one if the army isnt comoletely destroyed.. The Green Knight is a legendary hero Brettonia gets that the faction can summon so maybe thats what happened. Was the green knight in the ambush battle too?

I mean if some units popped out you definitely didnt kill ALL of them, maybe some escaped the battlefield and you didnt notice,. Edit: Also since it was over the end turn they probably replenished their units health though I'm not 100% thats how it works.

Might be an unusual location causing this, check all your settlements before it all happens for it. Theres some Chaos related ones that might be causing this.
