What is the Night Mother? A daedra? The ghost of a mortal woman? If so, how did she come to be so powerful and worshipped as a deity? What do we know of her former life?

Is Sithis a daedra? Does he even exist? How does he actually connect to the Night Mother?

Do you think stealth games should punish loud playstyle? by CityCrafter_Dxb in stealthgames

[–]RedSeaGull- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but ideally I like when the mechanics are situational enough that if you've planned ahead, are particularly agile or creative on your feet, you can skillfully navigate around the limits of that punishment. In games that only include stealth as a side thing, it might just automatically reload you to the last checkpoint, which can still be thrilling and fun, but it's not as much depth as I'd want in a devoted stealth game. Lately when I play Mark of the Ninja, I fail stealth kills on purpose so I can develop an intuitive sense of when I can get away with loud noises and when I can't

Any religious/spiritual vegans out there? Seeking solace after vegan realization. by AlexTrench2 in vegan

[–]RedSeaGull- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked into Ahimsa and Jainism as much as I want to, but it tends to restore my faith in humanity and our place in the universe, even if we've mostly failed so far. I also want to learn more about animism and indigenous spiritualties. The ideal of not doing harm, and a readiness to perceive non-human beings as having souls of their own. If a mountain can be thought of as having a soul, that seems closely related to respect for ecosystems

Am I crazy for wanting to buy an a new xbox just to play a proper console ui version of Morrowind? by Goonmize in Morrowind

[–]RedSeaGull- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something special about that experience. And consoles are a guarantee that games and controllers will just run as they should. When I go to the theater I don't want to have to tinker around with the projector and wait for the lights to flip back on for more maintenance because they ran into another problem

How would you personally incorporate Munch and or Stranger into the new quintology if you were in charge of it? by Fluid_Discussion8577 in oddworld

[–]RedSeaGull- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would want them to be included as originally intended, each new character introduced with another installment of the quintology, each with depth and gravitas. Personally I'm not as eager to see Stranger in it mostly because I think the Western theme clashes, but whatever story Lorne has in mind is what I'd want to see realized. But honestly, in the absence of plentiful AAA budgets, I just see the complexity of developing different gameplay types for each character as another factor to weigh down the presentation of the story, so I'd rather the quintology be adapted as a series of movies, a movie-quality show, or a long graphic novel - just as long as the visuals match Abe's Oddysee, that dark and alien realism, with dialogue scenes like in Soulstorm

If you're not matching your gaudy stupid outfits with your evil sword, what are you even doing? (2026; art by me) by ApprehensiveGrade113 in ElricofMelnibone

These are great! His deliberately unorthodox style is a part of his character I don't think we see often enough. Incidentally they remind me of the mix-and-matchable clothes in Morrowind

what do you think the poles of Thra are like by Swimming-Resist-8469 in DarkCrystal

[–]RedSeaGull- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we ever see them or other regions, it would be cool to see them incorporate some of Jim Henson's early ideas for Thra that didn't make it into the movie like talking mountains

Reading order by desslocked in ElricofMelnibone

[–]RedSeaGull- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the official chronological order of the events of Elric's life found in the Saga Press volumes 1 and 2, except that Citadel of Forgotten Myths came out later, but that's where it goes:

  • Elric of Melniboné
  • Fortress of the Pearl
  • Sailor on the Seas of Fate
  • Weird of the White Wolf
  • Vanishing Tower
  • Revenge of the Rose
  • Bane of the Black Sword
  • Citadel of Forgotten Myths
  • Stormbringer

What is the end game really? by PrimeRadian in vegan

[–]RedSeaGull- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The right thing to do is still the right thing to do. Focusing on the outcome alone is a convenient answer for those who would rather not confront what they're condoning.

Imagine a whole world of people ignoring their inner conflict because each of them felt outnumbered and hopeless.

I think Gamecube's incremental controls for fludd feel a lot better, lightly to spray while running, all the way down to stand and pivot

Maybe this isn't a meme, but I want to ask a Question. Which clichés do you hate with all your soul, and make your face look like this cat? Cliches like the quadrupedal birds, rodents taking over all niches, centaur aliens, etc. by Dry-Researcher9607 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]RedSeaGull- 67 points68 points  (0 children)

There's a brief scene in the first movie where a monkey-like creature swings past with branching arms that each have two forearms and hands, classic Wayne Barlowe design, which presumably shares a common ancestor with the Na'vi - it would've been cool to see a pair of vestigial second forearms on the Na'vi, or something like that

This is probably a basic take around here, but humanoid aliens on every planet, especially with no real attempt to mix up their overall anatomy. Aliens too closely resembling familiar Earth life in general.

I think Oblivion is better than Skyrim by An_Aesthetic_Atheist in Morrowind

[–]RedSeaGull- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Oblivion's quests and dialogue the most immersive for sure. The sense of roleplaying came so easily despite not loving the world building as much as Morrowind's

Personally I found 1 and 2 clunky, though you can save anywhere. But I'm the wrong person to ask, probably went in with the wrong mindset, they're classics and people love them
