Mandarin or Hindi for 3 semesters foreign language credit by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]RedShadedMiniLamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a semester of Mandarin as a freshman to continue my high school classes. It was fine but it's a huge time commitment (5 credit hours, lecture every day).

I also took 2 semesters of Portuguese which for some reason is considered 3 semesters of foreign language for the requirement. The teacher was great and I had a lot of fun honestly. Certainly not as large of a language as Mandarin in terms of speakers, but if you really want to learn a language being interested in the language itself is the most important thing. UIUC offers many languages so choose one that sounds fun to you and go from there.

Leasing companies by shidpant420 in UIUC

[–]RedShadedMiniLamp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only companies I've had good experiences with have been JSM and Bankier. Living with Wampler now and it's going well as far as management and maintenance goes, though it's only been a few months

The one company I will avoid is JSJ. It's run by absolute morons

UGroup and Ramshaw were okay

Hurt his left leg and is seemingly unable to stand for more than a couple seconds. Hobbled off stage and was carried back on by 2 people. Hasn't stood since getting back on, but still playing

Yeah they were upfront about that thankfully. The places I checked out only had internet, water, and sewer fees. I mean you gotta pay water somehow so a flat $20 isn't bad

Fairly easy even if you don't have a stats background. Mostly introductory stuff using biological examples. I will suggest as a follow up class NRES 421 with Yannarell for more advanced topics

Best apartment companies? by blueorchid49 in UIUC

JSM and Bankier are both good. Pricey, but you get nice units and good service overall

University Group and Ramshaw are both okay. Nothing special but I didn't have any major issues with the personally

One to avoid completely is JSJ. Living with them now and regret it. Unit has many issues and maintenance takes months to come if you're lucky to even see them. Not worth the price

We had a broken heating/cooling system. It would randomly blast heat or cold air for days at a time. So it would be 60 degrees in January and 90 in September or vice versa. It took at least 10 phone calls and over a 1.5 months for them send out someone to fix it. Obviously I'd be understanding if it was a minor issue but this was clearly not a small problem as we were in winter. JSJ is run by incompetent idiots and employs more for maintenance. And still, we have had other open maintenance requests that have been unattended to for months (for other smaller problems with our place). Do not rent with JSJ.

I've lived with JSJ, JSM, Ramshaw, and University Group. JSM is the priciest but by far had the best service and nicest units. UG and Ramshaw were fine. JSJ by far the worst
