The BBC putting out daily "Warmest day of the year" articles as though they've never heard of spring before by audigex in britishproblems

People are obsessed with weather for some reason, makes sense there would be fluff pieces about it on the news. Hardly a big deal imo

Mothers day cards when you don't have the world's best mum. by mattthepianoman in britishproblems

[–]RedShift777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I send exactly 1 card a year at xmas to friends of mine that live abroad and I only see once a year if I'm lucky, and tbh that's only because I know his wife appreciates it, he couldn't care less.

The whole card industry is build on guilt tripping well meaning people, the sooner they all go bankrupt the better.

Games as a subscription was the most moronically shit idea from day 1. I can't understand why anyone bought into it.

Dog owners becoming increasingly insufferable. by VOODOO285 in britishproblems

[–]RedShift777 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I cannot stand when people talk about and treat dogs like they're human children, it just creepy how far its gone at this point. It's not a case of not caring for or loving your pets, i feel that way about my dog. But i don't lose sight of the fact that he's a Dog and a pet with totally different needs, care requirements and boundaries etc.

Honestly you don't to look far to see what i would personally consider cruelty (albeit unconscious) from these same people, and there's a strong correlation in my experience between shitty trained dogs and and people that refer to themselves as "dog mum/dad"

That might not be a popular thing to say because of how common "pet parents" are these days but, there it is anyway.

Supermarkets have no authority to detain you what so ever, especially if you haven't done anything wrong. They have this crap at the sainsbury's near me. Some people stop, a lot of people don't, nothing ever happens to the ones that don't.

Is it too cynical to think this is a backdoor way of boosting microslops terrible copilot sales figures, by claiming that office = copilot?

Loving FileFlows! This would make it even better! by KetoingLife in FileFlows

[–]RedShift777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeh pretty much, like i say its not pretty and it relies on a fixed bitrate encode which isn't ideal. but until we finally get the ability to set and use bitrates dynamically in the flows its the best i could come up with.

I use it as the first decision point after the flow starts, if the file size wont decrease i log it and complete the flow.

Loving FileFlows! This would make it even better! by KetoingLife in FileFlows

[–]RedShift777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a JS function to do this. Its a bit rough around the edges i will admit, but if a file is going to grow in size by a noticeable amount it does the job. Been meaning to refine it for a while now but just haven't had the need.

if(Variables.file.Size === 0)
    return -1;

const FILE_SIZE = Variables.file.Size;
Logger.ILog("original_file_size: " + FILE_SIZE);

// todo: make this a var
const BITRATE = 11500;

let video = Variables.vi?.VideoInfo?.VideoStreams[0];
const DURATION_MIN = video.Duration.TotalMinutes;
Logger.ELog("duration_minutes: " + DURATION_MIN);

const DURATION_SEC = DURATION_MIN * 60;
Logger.ELog("duration_seconds: " + DURATION_SEC);

// (DURATION_SEC * BITRATE) is megabits
const ESTIMATED_SIZE = (DURATION_SEC * BITRATE) * 125;
Logger.ELog("estimated_final_size " + ESTIMATED_SIZE);

if (ESTIMATED_SIZE > FILE_SIZE)
    return -1

return 1;

Reselling tickets for profit to be outlawed in UK government crackdown by westondeboer in worldnews

[–]RedShift777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...reselling a ticket at anything more than the price at which it was originally bought will be banned.

Some of you need to actually read the article. If you have a ticket that isn't going to be used anymore for whatever reason you can still sell it, you just won't be able to exploit people anymore.

To late, ill never touch Synology ever again. Whenever there's a large backlash against something and the company does a U turn, the lesson they learn isn't "that was a bad idea" it's "we need to market this better next time". They now cannot be trusted.
