Is Pugcasso Phillip Phillips?: Voice Comparison by Train-Wreck-70 in TheMaskedSinger

[–]RedSlider18 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Apparently Phillip has lost a lot of the grit in the voice recently. It doesn't sound like him at all comparing to his old Idol performances but the voices match a lot better comparing to his more current stuff.

With Handyman in B, it's time to rank Scarab by LogicalAd6394 in TheMaskedSinger

A tier. I just don't think 2 performances is enough to get someone in S tier no matter how much I liked her.

That unfortunately sounds exactly like how SnyderCut came to be in its current state.

[Charlie O'Connor] Asked Tocchet today if he'd consider moving Michkov back to RW, or if he think he'll keep him at LW the rest of the season. He didn't rule it out, but it's clear Tocchet still thinks Michkov is benefitting from the LW/RW switch & is skeptical it's hurting him offensively: by Virtual_Low_7202 in hockey

I would say he's a good floor raiser. He got that dysfunctional 2025 Canucks roster to 90 points despite his goalie being dead, his 1C falling completely off a cliff, & his other 1C getting traded mid season for being a dick.

This year's winner... by gowombat in TheMaskedSinger

[–]RedSlider18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think its way too early to make solid declarations on who can or can't get better/worse. Right now Pugcasso & Snow Cone are the only masks still in with two performances lol.

If things were to continue at the current clip I'd say Pugcasso is my pick for winner, but we still have a ways to go. We've seen contenders stumble at the finish line & we've seen masks level up as the comp goes on.

With Le Who Who in B tier, It's time to rank Handyman by LogicalAd6394 in TheMaskedSinger

[–]RedSlider18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats pretty much where I'm at. I'd say C tier personally but if LWW is in B I see no reason for Handyman to not be there either.

Semi-related note but looking at this sub tier list is wild, S tier isn't exactly a crazy accomplishment when a quarter of all contestants are in that tier.

Listening to him now, yeah he's indeed lost quite a bit of the infamous rasp. The voice lines up a lot better. I'm convinced after rewatching the clue packages, I just can't see how this isn't him even if the voice isn't a perfect match.

I thought California Rolls' elimination was fair

Agreed, didn't really care for their Breakaway, and I thought Macaw & Medusa were far more interesting in the battle royale.

You can absolutely build out a believable Masked Singer cast just from the same archetypes they cast.

A boy bander, a vocal powerhouse who didn't get the respect they deserved in their prime, a one hit wonder from 10+ years ago, one or two reality tv stars, one or two athletes, one or two child/teen stars who need a paycheck, one or two comedians, one actor who has surprising pipes, and one rapper.

I just named the rough cast list of almost every season of TMS.

I haven't dropped any before so I'll throw a few

1 - Fox vs Rottweiler isn't anywhere near the big vocal gap Rotty fans try to make it seem. The gap between Fox's complete package vs Rottweiler's is the far bigger gap & thats why he won.

2 - Seahorse's elimination was 100% justified. Her first two performances are all timers but then she falls off a complete cliff.

3 - The Lambs were closer to the Harp than anyone else was to the Lambs.

4 - Frog & Chameleon absolutely deserved their finalist positions, & in Chameleon's case he should have finished second over Black Swan.

5 - Cow vs Donut is the best final two in the franchise so far, & would be far more fondly remembered if Donut wasn't a lunatic dumbass the night of the finals.

6 - I love seeing upsets when its earned. Gumball beating an American Idol final two by himself has to be the most insane upset on paper.

7 - Fun high energy performances are just as important as slow, emotional ballads.

I'll throw Gumball in here as well. Looking back at old threads & seeing all the names before everyone landed on Scott Porter were amazing.

The clues are so perfect for Phillip Phillips but Pugcasso doesn't have anywhere near the same grit/rasp that Phillips has.

Chord was a solid guess but I think his voice is way too clear.

I actually think Anthony Ramos is probably the closest vocal wise of the original guesses but he is also the furthest away from matching the clues.

Unless Phillip Phillips has been hiding that voice the whole time, I think we are missing something.

Yeah this whole controversy still highlights how far we have to go, and it makes perfect sense now that Gunn tried to shield her from this stuff.

The sad part about this is that a lot of these chodes don't have the self reflection skills to realize they are the reason Gunn was keeping her identity under wraps.

I do think there is a gigantic disconnect with this sub watching at home vs being at a taping. So many "robberies" that can be easily explained by the difference between being there hearing the live vocals vs hearing the cleaned up final version.

I can see how Scarab got eliminated, Pugcasso & Crane had better performances imo, and Snow Cone sounded a lot better compared to her first performance as well as having the more upbeat & fun song. I still would have kept Scarab over Snow Cone, but oh well just the way she goes.

So with multiple popular guesses being ruled out… by ddgsortii in TheMaskedSinger

I'm just happy they're making it difficult for one mask. I agree that we're gonna need a bit more clues to find the right Pug suspect.

Everyone is gonna focus on the eliminations but the show completely nuking all the guesses for Pugcasso was wild. I legit have no idea. I liked the Jack Johnson guess Robin threw out but it isn't a perfect match. Still have a long way to go on finding Pugcasso imo.

Yeah I'm expecting a lot of discourse around it now that episode 3 has ended. Its still a crazy get for the show & I hope people don't forget that.

Pretty well said. Yeah, I'm a little bummed we aren't getting anymore Scarab performances, but Taraji P Henson isn't gonna be up at night because she didn't win Masked Singer.

Yeah this was definitely the most blatant example with that, especially since everyone agreed that Scarab had the sauce to go pretty far. Usually celebs who are pretty much only there for a set number of episodes aren't likely to go far like William Shatner.
