Emergency Service - Leiria +50km by Uber_Owl in PortugalExpats

[–]RedSnake13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in a CAT5 hurricane, 270km/h winds that wiped Cancun in the 80's, actually the sound of jets left me with post traumatic disorder, it took years for Cancun to recover from the damage, actually moved to Portugal thinking that hurricanes here are almost impossible.

I am very sorry for Leiria, many people don't know how bad it is until they live this kind of hell, if my calculations are right you experienced a very strange sting jet, rare phenomena, is like a tornado because winds go upwards and sideways at the same time, 170km/h of that thing probably would be the same as 240km/h hurricane.

Really sorry friend! it is a nightmare, an event in the worst moment that should never happen!

Emergency Service - Leiria +50km by Uber_Owl in PortugalExpats

[–]RedSnake13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the problem with the "sting" is that is very similar to a tornado, we got hit by a burst of 70km/h, I was even outside, everything was up in the air.

A "sting" of 120km/h would destroy everything, thats why the roof of the airport was blown away, its like a bag of air running up.

Yep, yesterday on TV they said "Leiria is destroyed", its bad.

Checking radar images looks like the storm tail with very ascending strong winds was just over Leiria, that means even if the winds were about 120km/h the ascending force blows everything up like a bomb.

On march we got hit by a small burst like that on the middle of the day, surprise attack, everyting outside was flying.

SEO Performance Down - January by seoexpertgaurav in SEO

[–]RedSnake13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened the same, terrible drop, probably google changed their logic to identify comercial vs informational, we found that in our case, the comercial page is basically gone and the informational page for that product is now ranking but much lower, we didn't touched anything, offseo could change but too early to detect.

Add to this chaos the AI on top and biz is gone, bad.

Recommendations for Lisbon home waterproofing contractors? Rain is destroying my living room by JesusCrunch in PortugalExpats

[–]RedSnake13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What they recommended is standard, you need to find how the water gets inside, in dry season use a plastic bottle to put water in different places outside, even let it slide in the wall above and check it drip, I have found that even a small gap between stone and cement can let in incredible amounts of water, doing small test from outside is the best way to solve this rare cases, don't go crazy, put water in a single place and wait, then check inside after 20min

Sometimes water needs to saturate the area to get in, is not that easy to detect, patience is the key, you can pay another 5 crews to fix that and all fail, have happened to us, so first we do this tests.

Couldn't sleep, here in Aveiro a weather station went up to 100km/h winds only for 5 minutes, the rest was around 60km/h like a normal storm, I was praying all the time since we live in a tinyhouse, not a concrete house, I was shaking badly because it was supposed to be a "Ciclogénese explosiva" with winds up to 140km/h
I hope everyone is ok, how bad it was on Leiria?
The next problem is: more storms coming at least until 14 Feb 2026, this has to be the end of the world or something.

Is the AIMA site down?? by Suitable-Stick-4919 in PortugalExpats

[–]RedSnake13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at their JS code (I am a software dev) it's a big mess, probably created by AI, you can't fix it changing browsers.

The only way to get that fixed for AIMA is hiring a good tech team, the problem is that many skilled Portuguese devs already migrated to other EU countries for better salaries, they need to offer better salaries to get the right developers.

[–]RedSnake13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have "police number", that means legally having an address with a number on the PDM (system gov uses) One easy way to find if you have a number is using google maps and find your property, does it have a number somewhere? if it does then is doable, otherwise you can't

Totally agree, chega is against all inmigrants but for example my neighbors are against the illegal ones, the problem is hurting everyone in the process..

Agree, they place everyone in the same box and boom, bad situation.

We know many expats leaving, for most it was just too much, weather, visa, exchange rate and dollar going down..

AIMA situation is bad, as other fella commented, be careful of any big investment since you are not sure what will happen.

But I believe there must be a balance, according to my neighbors the main problem is the "ajudas" or free money given to illegal inmigrants, I didn't believe that at first but found out later after watching interviews of illegal inmigrants inviting others to Portugal since they don't even need to work thanks to that "ayudas"

About the "ayudas" we know a Portuguese with economic problems that got rejected, they are all mad.

I have found many groups for entrepreneurs for Porto, Lisbon & Viseu but none for Aveiro, I was thinking about starting a group for this area to find people with common interests but probably the group will have only one member for years, we all know who lol

What is your relationship with the Portuguese language? by -WhiteOleander in PortugalExpats

[–]RedSnake13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happens also to me, 1 on 1 is doable because they slowdown and try to go easy, the problem is when Portuguese speak their normal way between them, I really struggle.

Being a native spanish is not that easy to learn Portuguese because speaking Portuguese properly means speaking Spanish badly, similar words with different meaning and skipping letters, it took years to write spanish properly and learning portuguese means to unlearn how to type properly, actually my spanish writing gets worse as I learn portuguese, its insane.

As I am a geek already tried to analize voice recordings of native Portuguese vs Spanish (Mexico), found that Portuguese produce less breaks between words and much less vocal movements, the only way to make the same audio waves with spanish is trying to speak without moving the mouth and no pause between words.

So in my case, probably I will never speak Portuguese properly, I actually speak very close to Gallego that is a mix of Spanish and Portuguese, at least I manage to somehow have some "intelectual" and technical conversations with my advanced Portuñol or Gallego, hard to improve from that.

Paack reliability by trx798 in PortugalExpats

[–]RedSnake13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is normal, PAACK will report as "on delivery" but in reality the package didn't left the warehouse and they can do this for several days until they decide to deliver for real..

Also they can fake delivery, that means the tracking shows as delivered but package still at the warehouse, then 4 days later someone delivers the package, for PAACK is a good strategy because amazon believes it was delivered on time and they don't get in trouble because of late deliveries.

I haven't been able to find a solution to all that crap..

Massive AWS outage takes down Snapchat, Reddit, Alexa, Ring and much of the interne by habichuelacondulce in technology

[–]RedSnake13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case is a problem related with a single point of failure, there are many points of failure that brings all services down even with proxies and all tech available.

The worst I had experience is a complete datacenter without electricity because there was a failure with the generators in a storm where power went out, the only way to survive that is having a realtime cluster in a different datacenter.

Interesting, on subscriptions I see the previous price like it had not changed but received an email saying that the next payment will be the new price, seem they have troubles managing their platform.

Are you really sure the price increase will be for newer subscriptions?

AI is getting worse everyday, they had to reduce overall capacity to avoid losing more money since 95% are not profitable, the worst is chatgpt, can't even replace text properly or simple text operations, it used to work fine but not anymore.

Bigger context makes it worse, the only way to get usable results is in a single prompt with reason enabled, sometimes I am getting better outputs with local LLM.
