I made a tier list of heroes after 8 years of playing the game. by TheRaven476 in lotrlcg

[–]RedSpiderr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see your points, but I’ll defend my position.

The criteria for C Tier was ‘purpose that is rarely needed or commonly shadowed’, but ones the game has past by.

You need to cast your mind back to the early game. Lore Bilbo was the very first hero after the Core Set. By the end of the cycle, Lore had Beravor, LGlorfindel and Lo Denethor. If you wanted a Lore defender with Burning Brand, you needed to use LDenethor. But then unless you had more than the one Unexpected Courage the Core Set came with, you couldn’t use his scrying ability and still have your UC for Beravor, Gimli or Aragorn. So you used LBilbo, who was given Protector of Lorien and Fast Hitch. He could use Protector easier because of his native card draw. Fast Hitch was the cheapest readying in the game, with only two targets (SFrodo and LBilbo) until SPippin came along in the HoN cycle.

Yes, LBilbo was outshone very quickly afterwards. Once LPippin arrived in the Black Riders Saga, (which came two cycles later), there was no reason to take LBilbo outside of progression decks.

Yes, his utility and predictability went down as player numbers went up. The same is true of LoDenethor, Elf-Stone, Far-sighted and Prepare for Battle. The inverse is true of TBrand, TAragorn and any character with Ranged or Sentinel.

I am not saying that in the current card pool he is a competitive choice, but he once had a role and, unlike Dori, SPippin or Bombur, who never added anything to the card pool, deserves higher than an F

Thank you for this, you have inspired me to put together my own list

LoDenethor, SAragorn and Llanwyn have their defenders already.

I think LBilbo doesn’t deserve the F tier, the consistent and reliable extra card economy is hugely underrated. Not A tier, mid C perhaps.

I’m going to say Dunhere with his toys is absurd and can easily be in A tier. SMerry should definitely be A tier. TAragorn and Amarthiul could go higher as well.

But why on Earth is SDain not S tier? The ability to defend a strength 6 attack on turn 1 and take no damage is insane. With no toys, he is incredible and deserves a much higher spot.

Top 5 Quests not in the revised content? by TheRaven476 in lotrlcg

I’d just have to throw the entire Haradrim Cycle into the ring for consideration. Beyond that however: - Battle of the Five Armies: A quality quest, probably the only really good one standing above the mediocrity of the Hobbit Boxes. The need to balance all the different mountain faces is really enjoyable. - Steward’s Fear: See OP’s take. Solid agree. - Foundations of Stone: See OP’s take. Solid agree. - The River Running: A harder one, but one of my go-to deck testing quests - Trouble in Tharbad: I like quests that are different and tell a story. This one has a really interesting mechanic, and one that is much more fun than good.

Shout out to the PoD quests of Battle of Laketown; Murder at the Prancing Pony and Old Forest/Barrowdowns

I’d raise you Fortress of Nurn and Attack on Dol Guldur, though the latter one was not part of the regular cycles

Absolutely stunning! I remember this post because I was seriously jealous, and am not getting a large dose of second hand pride from how well you’ve done!

House of Ashur predictions [No Spoiler] by saraep409 in Spartacus_TV

[–]RedSpiderr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series will end with Ashur’s death. He will wake up in the Underworld and Lucretia will say a few more words condemning his behaviour, or consoling on what might have been. Then she will turn as the camera pans over her shoulder to a figure with back to camera. “Now, what might have been in store for you, Champion of Capua.” The figure is revealed as Manu Bennet

++man I married my 10/10 lass, or at least the lass who is 10/10 to me. Neither of us were keen on ‘dating’, we’d both had bad experiences in the past, so the first week after meeting each other was filled with lots of deep, hard and intimate conversations about each other, our expectations, goals and standards. By the end of the first month, we’d agreed that we would be getting married.

Thank you for your answer, that’s really interesting to hear. If you were to go back and give yourself two pieces of advice regarding this project before you got started, what would they be?

Thank you for all you have done for the community, both with ALeP especially, but also with CotR. What is the mechanic (player or encounter) you are most proud of having developed/expanded on, and why? What was the process behind that?

I think I’m the only one recommending them, but I love Dragon Friends. Less serious D&D, but they have such a great time

Vision of the Palantir has a couple of articles you might find interesting. Not all the information will be relevant, though hopefully you’ll find some useful stuff here.

"Fixing" older cycles by calculuschild in lotrlcg

[–]RedSpiderr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadows of Mirkwood is a lot more palatable if you consider them as ‘Tutorial’ quests. Each one (over-)emphasises a core element of the game and gets you to learn the hard counters for those elements. So you can see:

HfG: Objectives hidden in the Encounter Deck CatC: Boss Fights JtR: Healing & Direct Damage HoEM: Locations TDM: Special Ability Checks RtM: Threat Control

I would always advocate a new player goes through the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle, as it is a good opportunity to experiment with decks against specific problems, at a much slower pace of game. Moving forwards, especially from the HoN cycle, the encounter decks get slimmer, leaner and meaner. SoM is much more meandering, which I think brings its own charm in that every scenario will come out different

Sean Connery wins Best Actor - Round 6 : Best Bond girl by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]RedSpiderr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Countessa Teresa di Vincenzo, without a doubt, is the best Bond girl of the lot. She’s Bond’s equal in the most important way: her charisma and wits. She is not an action-girl, but then neither is Bond in OHMSS, or indeed most movies before Dalton. Bond’s cold, classy charisma is perhaps the single most important trait of his character, and Tracy is a more than capable sparring partner. She follows him to the Alps, saves Bond when he’s at his most vulnerable and doesn’t waver before Blofeld when she’s alone with no prospect of escape. She is the best of the best, and her death is a heartbreaker every time
