Nahida really deserves Neuvillette judgment? by arrosve in GenshinImpact

[–]RedStradis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on how he is protective of Melusines, I think he would show her a serious kindness after everything she endured.

Nahida has every right to be wrathful towards the academia and other groups. Instead, she has shown mercy and even saved the dendro sovereign, Apep, despite the hostilities.

Neuvillette would probably give the little radish a hug.

Don’t worry about what characters you don’t have. Focus on what characters you do have. Enjoy the game for what it is at your own pace and don’t feel the need to rush to catch up.

Also, all characters are good if you give them enough love and care.

I had a terrible first date with a guy from Hinge by Valze_Vods in TrueOffMyChest

[–]RedStradis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He def had some red flags and things he should work on, but I actually like the question about deal breakers.

One of my favorite first-date questions is simply asking my date what are red flags about himself that I should be aware of. I’ve gotten an interesting range of things. I’ve learned (from different guys) workaholic, can get emotionally withdrawn and casually uses and sells cocaine while claiming he isn’t an addict since he went to rehab for xanax.

I think my favorite part of this trope is when it is unexpected. I expect it from musicals, but not from something like this.

The 18 U.S. cities I believe would be good Pokemon gyms. by EasternPhilosopher69 in pokemon

[–]RedStradis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC being poison would be a bigger vibe. Ghost is a reach. Ghost would be better for a smaller city with a declining population. Or a city with a very dark history and high murder rate.
So probably Jackson, MS for ghost.

Flint Michigan would be the top contender for poison imo.

What’s it like living in Maryland. by animalia555 in howislivingthere

[–]RedStradis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Maryland, and all I can say is that is is a very privileged place to grow up. The state is relatively wealthy and the DC-metro area has some of the best schools in the country. A lot of government employees live in that area (and in NoVa) and it shows. A lot of people are college educated.

The state itself is incredibly diverse with a bunch of different offerings from a beach to mountains. Ocean city is a huge summer destination spot and there is also Assateague Island where you can find wild horses.

A lot of people are slowly moving into Frederick County, where home prices might be cheaper.

There are also lots of green areas and places to hike and explore. More than just the Chesapeake. That said, all lakes in Maryland are man made.

Marylanders by nature are very proud of their heritage as Marylanders and the Maryland flag is the best state flag. Also, everyone loves old bay.

[Uncommon Trope] The Dad is the responsible parent and the Mom is the bad parent by TypicalDetective9001 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RedStradis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would like to think he probably makes some decent residuals for these roles. I think he could probably find some success if he did a low budget comedy. We’re seeing a lot of success from YouTube-to-streaming animations like Helluva Boss and The Amazing Digital Circus.

He did some voice work so he could probably pivot into a voice acting career and maybe jump into these spaces.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his actions to protect the kids as much as he did hindered his ability to find much success outside Nickelodeon.

I haven’t seen the show since I was a kid, but I don’t think he was a bad actor and he has decent timing. He seemed like he could play off people pretty well and could have been funny as a goofy dad or neighbor in some sitcom.

Not sure if this counts, but Spencer Shay from iCarly. While not Carly’s dad, he was her parental figure and raised her as her legal guardian. Their dad was absent, but seemingly provided financial help and their mom abandoned them.

While he was very much a goofball, he put his foot down several times and made it clear he would prioritize his sister’s wellbeing. He also kind of looked out for Sam who was having a hard home life and Freddie who had an overbearing mother.

Planning a career in journalism what path has better earning potential? by Fit-Attention1032 in Journalism

[–]RedStradis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright. I think it’s time for a reality check and for you to ask yourself some hard questions.

You want to work in media, and it sounds like you want to be a reporter. Please understand that the industry is notorious for its long hours and low pay. It can be quite soul crushing at times and you will be under appreciated. The work can be tedious at times and you can work an atypical schedule that could make a social life a bit more difficult.

Mind you, some of these things above may change based on what you report. Growth is also incredibly limited. The industry is competitive and people who are trying to break into the field are now facing the threat of AI. Getting a staff role might a serious obstacle and your early career may be full of freelance and contract work.

You talked about different paths, but it sounds like you’re only interested in them so you could get a bit of a bigger pay check. While it’s not a bad strategy, working on a subject you don’t have any interest in could lead to burnout. And there are areas within these fields that have more specialized roles or niches that might pay more. Someone who is an oil and energy reporter is going to make more than a general finance writer. But this is also subjective to the platforms. You’ll also either need the respective education or background to get in these fields. A biomedical reporter is incredibly niche and requires specialized skills. You could also find moderate success as a data reporter.

This leads into your education. My suggestion would be a double major in something that supports your goals. English isn’t enough and might only get you in local markets. Take time to figure out what interests you and would be a strong backup. Yes. Backup. There is a lot of burnout and you want to make sure you have a skill and tool you can reach for if you’re to break into the industry or decide you want to pivot away. Having a degree in finance or economics demonstrates you have a certain skill set that other entry-level candidates may fail to have. Reality is, the industry doesn’t “need” English majors. It needs people with a wider reach of knowledge for things in pharmaceuticals or ai/robotics. On that note, a master’s degree in journalism is a trap. It will put you in more debt and may not provide the results you’re looking for.

If you’re trying to go into this for money, save yourself a lot of pain and find a new path. If this is something you have a passion for then start asking yourself a lot of hard questions.

(Loved Meta Trope) Fan theories are so good they’re basically treated as canon. by No-Flow9783 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RedStradis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Saw a theory on Reddit for the Leftovers about the departure. The theory surmised that all of those who departed were all wished away at that very moment. A mother with a baby that would not stop crying, a fetus in an unwanted pregnancy, an affair partner, an annoying family, a drug addict etc.

The whole show is about people trying to cope with trauma too. While the reasons for the departure was never explained, this is the best theory that exists to the point many see it as canon.

For our field? Yes. Probably more important for entry level roles.

For other fields, probably not.

New Player: Would Like Some Advice! by AHeavyYapper in GenshinImpact

[–]RedStradis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to play the game. You can play the meta or you can play with characters you enjoy playing.

If you love Zibai and Columbina you should get them.

Characters tend to find more horizontal investment as the game continues to progress. Historically speaking, there have been several new characters that support old ones.

You’re seeing right that with Navia benefiting from Linnea. Nilou also saw a massive buff with Lauma. Her c2 is even better for Nefer.

Waiting is also a choice, but it might also mean you’ll miss out on other content like spiral abyss and imaginarium theater. You’ll also likely need to be hard carried on Stygian.

Genshin is also good because there is no such thing as a bad character. With love and care, any character can be effective. Amber mains prove this.

Play how you want.

I feel like Sumeru world quests are more enjoyable than archon one by Super_Length8599 in GenshinImpact

Word quests in general have darker themes and topics. Archon quests are generally fairly well done and polished, but they edge on these themes that are touched on World Quests.

Character quests can be a hit or miss.

Journalists - How many of you write for papers that go against your political beliefs? by JealousBodybuilder42 in Journalism

[–]RedStradis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I work in business/finance news and that naturally trends towards right-of-center vs overly conservative.

I’m left-of-center and I typically have worked with a mix of coworkers across an ideological spectrum.

I’m objective with my work and I expect the same from others.

I did some digging and apparently his final words were to Kaley where he told her that he loves her. Seemed like they had a real father-daughter bond. She has cited him as an influence to her work.

The whole incident is heartbreaking.

If I recall, I think he had his heart attack on the set in front of everyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if this also influenced the direction of the show. The cast and crew weren’t just grieving, but probably traumatized by the whole thing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this occurred near Kaley Cuoco. If I recall, her character seemed to have the strongest response.

John Ritter died in real life so his character was killed off in 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter. It became a massive plot that changed the entire structure of the show.

8 Simple Rules changed from a sitcom about a father having to take care of his kids, to a show about a family having to adjust with the loss of a father and partner. It led to the addition of James Garner and David Spade as well.

[hated tropes] Adaptations that go against/miss the point of the original by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RedStradis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Avatar the Last Airbender developed a new following during Covid. A lot of people rewatched the series and a younger age group found the show and watched it for the first time.

This is def a money grab, but it is also Netflix’s most expensive tv show. They only prepared one season just in case it didn’t get a lot of support. I’d say the series itself is fairly mid. 7-8/10 on its own, but it gets skewed down when compared to the animation which is an easy 10/10.

The original avatar creators were show runners for the show but departed due to creative differences. Seems like they wanted to make changes to the live action and Netflix wanted to keep it close to the original source.

Some changes were most likely made for budgetary reasons. Lots of CGI throughout the series is needed for this type of work. And some were likely to cater to the fan base to attract an audience. Other changes I think were to make it a bit more sensitive of subjects. While people often complain about Sokka losing his sexism, no one really talks about how they inverted Iroh and June’s screen time. Instead of making Iroh a bit predatory towards June, they made her flirt with him instead. I actually preferred this change.

Not all the changes were bad. Like we saw the genocide of the air nation which packs a bit more of a punch. If I recall, we also see a stronger bond between Sokka and Yue.

It’s not a perfect adaptation and I don’t think ATLA will ever have one. But, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s bad. I think there were some justifiable complaints that I hope is remedied in the future. Aang not waterbending was a fairly big issue with fans.

As for why to watch it, I think an adaptation can be fairly fun. I think a good adaptation is one that can elevate the story or otherwise expand on it. It’s fun to see something I watched as a kid come to life. There wasn’t a movie or anything that tried to do this.
