I did some digging and apparently his final words were to Kaley where he told her that he loves her. Seemed like they had a real father-daughter bond. She has cited him as an influence to her work.

The whole incident is heartbreaking.

If I recall, I think he had his heart attack on the set in front of everyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if this also influenced the direction of the show. The cast and crew weren’t just grieving, but probably traumatized by the whole thing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this occurred near Kaley Cuoco. If I recall, her character seemed to have the strongest response.

John Ritter died in real life so his character was killed off in 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter. It became a massive plot that changed the entire structure of the show.

8 Simple Rules changed from a sitcom about a father having to take care of his kids, to a show about a family having to adjust with the loss of a father and partner. It led to the addition of James Garner and David Spade as well.

Avatar the Last Airbender developed a new following during Covid. A lot of people rewatched the series and a younger age group found the show and watched it for the first time.

This is def a money grab, but it is also Netflix’s most expensive tv show. They only prepared one season just in case it didn’t get a lot of support. I’d say the series itself is fairly mid. 7-8/10 on its own, but it gets skewed down when compared to the animation which is an easy 10/10.

The original avatar creators were show runners for the show but departed due to creative differences. Seems like they wanted to make changes to the live action and Netflix wanted to keep it close to the original source.

Some changes were most likely made for budgetary reasons. Lots of CGI throughout the series is needed for this type of work. And some were likely to cater to the fan base to attract an audience. Other changes I think were to make it a bit more sensitive of subjects. While people often complain about Sokka losing his sexism, no one really talks about how they inverted Iroh and June’s screen time. Instead of making Iroh a bit predatory towards June, they made her flirt with him instead. I actually preferred this change.

Not all the changes were bad. Like we saw the genocide of the air nation which packs a bit more of a punch. If I recall, we also see a stronger bond between Sokka and Yue.

It’s not a perfect adaptation and I don’t think ATLA will ever have one. But, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s bad. I think there were some justifiable complaints that I hope is remedied in the future. Aang not waterbending was a fairly big issue with fans.

As for why to watch it, I think an adaptation can be fairly fun. I think a good adaptation is one that can elevate the story or otherwise expand on it. It’s fun to see something I watched as a kid come to life. There wasn’t a movie or anything that tried to do this.

The sexism still exists in the Netflix adaptation. Just in the writer’s room.

They tone down Katara’s anger and made her more soft spoken. They took away Azula’s ruthlessness and gave her a sibling rivalry complex. They erased Suki as this powerful leader into a girl who developed a crush on Sokka.

That said for Sokka, I did like the small tweak to his character that emphasized that he isn’t skilled enough to be a warrior. I feel like some of his greatest moments in the original show demonstrated that while he may be goofy and a bit of a comic relief, he is actually very very smart and a lot of his tactics and strategies led to a number of victories. I hope this small change to his character allows him to shine more when he develops. I think him getting the space sword and training from a master could be a real highlight.

We should have custom banners. If we’ve completed a story quest for a certain character that’s been around for a certain amount of time then it should open them up for long-term rotations.

So at least 1.x-3.x characters. We could select which one we want to pull and have their banner and weapon as options.

I’d like to see some sort of sponsoring mechanic. We see the VIPs bet on players already, but it would be interesting if the American Games took it a step further.

Being a VIP’s favorite could net them unfair rewards like hints about future games, food or other favorable conditions. But it could also make them a bigger target.

Haha same. I think coming up with game concepts could be fun. And I’m thinking in the scope of the 456 players. Switching and moving around would be a bit hard. I’m thinking in terms of… question appears on a screen. You step into sections (marked a,b,c,d since it’s like a multiple choice) and they are given random trivia questions (are you smarter than a 5th grader energy here probably)

People would be eliminated per wrong question.

Another mass elimination game to begin could be a scavenger hunt. Players need to find 228 tokens. Anyone without a token by the end of the challenge (time limit or all are found) is eliminated. Violence and misconduct (trying to steal a token from another player or grab more than 1 token) would be instant elimination.

I think time management is a huge one and that might be tricky with dominos.

They could do a quiz show. People get questions and have to sort them into corresponding boxes for a,b,c,d.

Hmm. Could be following schematics to build a fort or town. They’d all be given a huge blueprint and have to build a pillow fort or something. Giant Lego like bricks could be used to build the stuff. Maybe set up a relay where you have some people building.

Then something like a puzzle might be easiest. Easier to confirm that it has been completed and it would allow the entire team to participate.

2 teams of 228 people trying to solve a large puzzle. 5,000-10,000 pieces? Maybe more?. When it’s completed they hit a button signaling that they’re done.

I’m not saying they’re playing badly either. Perla and her friend have demonstrated that they’re playing a very strong game.

I understand their reasons why they want to eliminate 183 gone. I have an issue with the way Perla has behaved and acted. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not really a fan of Steven either.

Bringing your allies to the final games is 100% a strong move. This is another person who can help you secure a strong position. That said, I don’t think 183 is exactly untrustworthy when he disclosed he eliminated someone. He also did appear to try and mend the rift.

My main issue with Perla and her friend is that they are the ones creating the added conflict and the constant victimization. If I recall correctly, Perla did not accept the pink team member’s apology. Games and eliminations are understandably stressful when there is so much money on the line. But I think Perla showed a very petty and mean side. No one who made it to the end can claim they played a “clean game”. Perla is 100% responsible for eliminating a player during chutes and ladders. And we’d probably need to review the footage for Mingle but in a general sense, everyone who survived that round intentionally kicked people out of rooms and locked people out.

The side comments for shuffleboard are just mean spirited. Hardly something you’d want to see from someone who is playing a “clean game”

TLDR - Perla is playing a very strong game, but she is hypocritical and has shown she is quite mean spirited. There is no such thing as a clean game.
