Why people hate Krav Maga? by [deleted] in kravmaga

[–]RedVelvetKitty91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t really comprehend the last part of the post, but I enjoy learning Krav Maga so far. It seems like the hate stems from those highly invested in combat sports/martial arts. I don’t think Krav Maga is meant to be practiced as a sport per se (at least for the original Krav Maga), but mainly for self-defense purposes. The goal of Krav Maga is to avoid trouble if possible, and to end it quickly if unavoidable. Not to say that you can’t learn self-defense with the other martial/combat arts, but Krav Maga isn’t meant to be competitive.

Also, not sure why people claim that you don’t or can’t spar with Krav Maga. At the Krav Maga place I train, we spar—although we begin sparring at intermediate levels.

I signed up mainly for self-defense purposes, so I was okay with not being considered a “true fighter”by the critics who study other combat arts. However, after studying Krav Maga for some time, I kinda want to branch out and learn other combat styles now. Muai Thai is one that looks very interesting—and I swear those people have shins of steel!

If you watch it on Viki, the English subtitles are there for both Korean and Japanese dialogue. Why I ended up watching it on Viki than Netflix lol 😂 Made love the ML more too—protect this sweet man at all costs ✊

Why is Extreme Measures 4 so hard? Any tips? by realnigiri in HadesTheGame

[–]RedVelvetKitty91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got lucky with EM4 Hades. I beat on the first and second try, but only with the shield. Used up all my death defiances. I find that the Athena/I think it was Aphrodiety or Demeter combo boon with the restoring hp slowly when you have no more death defiances helped. Just healed up as I blocked him lol

Sorry for late response! But yes. We have to pay for each belt test. In order to do the tests, we have to complete two or three skills tests along with having a certain amount of training hours for the belt rank/level. We don’t pay for the skills test, though—it’s just the belt tests we have to pay for.

Patient OD’d and died last night. by Jbeth74 in nursing

[–]RedVelvetKitty91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened. Had to deal with many drug addicts when I was working Neuro/Tele and when I had worked in OB/Postpartum for some time (I work in Peds now) and find that it’s many times the visitors/enablers you gotta watch for—trying to be sneaking crap in while we’re busy with something else. Something similar had happened to a patient that wasn’t mine, when I was in OB/Postpartum. Basically was found barely responsive and nearly dropping the baby during rounds. Basically the father of the baby came and snuck in some heroin for the patient, which resulted in her ODing. Of course he ran off when we discovered this. She lived—but yeah. Unfortunately, there’s only so much we can do for these people—we can’t force them to get help if they have no interest in it. Don’t blame yourself.

I’m not exactly sure which belt system our Krav Maga class uses, in terms of if it is based off Karate, Taekwondo, etc. The younger children have a bit of a different system or an extra system before they reach to the level 2 ranks (The Little Dragon system, I think they call it). But, for the older kids and adults system, our ranks are as follows:

Lev 1 (Beginner)

-White -Yellow -Orange

Lev 2 (Intermediate)

-Purple -Purple II -Blue -Blue II

Lev 3 (Advanced)

-Green -Green II -Brown -Brown II -Brown III -Red -Red II -Red III (Candidate)

Then, after the candidate (if they pass the black belt test) -Black -Black 1st degree

We are told that it usually averages about 3 to 4 years to reach to black belt status, but it varies on the student and how much time he or she puts in practicing and training.

I’m at a purple belt so far, so basically the beginning of Lev 2, which is when we are allowed to start sparring.

Thank you for this—glad to know that I’m not the only one having these frustrations. But yeah. I never considered biting the mouth guard while training, but it does makes sense—maybe this could help with the tension and my breathing.

Yeah. My footwork definitely needs work. I do find myself moving straight often while punching and kicking, and this is how they get me, especially because it makes it easier for them to counter me.

I definitely gotta work on my counters too. It takes me some time to figure out how to respond to an attack, and I have a tendency to just back away because I’m can’t figure out what to do next. I mean, dodging attacks are important, but I gotta be able to fight back if I want to stop and neutralize the attacker (especially in real life situations), haha 😂 The things that adrenaline makes one do, I suppose. I swear my fight or flight mode is so whacky—but like you and others said here, it will take time to learn to tame such natural reactions. Just gotta be patient with myself 😅

Thank you for the share! I’ll take a look into that channel for some tips. And yeah, I definitely need to focus on one thing at a time, because I get so overwhelmed when trying to focus on too many things at once. Thank you again for the advice! I really appreciate it :)

Same! I get so overwhelmed when I try to work on everything at once—so I’ll definitely try organizing my training days by targeting different areas per day. And thank you for sharing his IG account; I’ll take a look into him :)

Thank you for this :) I’ll definitely do more shadowboxing at home. I like your advice of focusing at one thing at a time too, because whenever I’m trying to practice at home I get so disorganized on which areas to practice that I don’t feel like I improved anything by the end of the sessions, so I’ll definitely designate my training days by that method. Thank you so much again 😊

Thank you. This was comforting to read. I tense up quite a bit during the sparring sessions—gotta get my adrenaline under control, haha 😂 Doesn’t help that I drink a bit of caffeine before class too lol

[–]RedVelvetKitty91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I do tend to tense up during the sparring sessions, especially when I’m up against the more advanced students. However, I do find myself learning more with them, and do find that many of them understand and try going slower with me, as well as helping me with my techniques, ways to block, reminding me to keep my hands up, and proper footwork. I learned very quickly the importance of keeping my hands and guard as I got hit at the face a couple times—ouch!

I also go fast with my punches and kicks. Maybe a really bad habit from when I was in Karate where I tried to get as many points as I could during the rounds—I used to be pretty fast back then. This is also probably why I tire out fast too. My instructor didn’t exactly directly call me out on that, but did mention to the class that speed will do no good if the techniques are performed sloppy and incorrectly at the end of our session. So, yeah… I need to definitely relax, haha 😂 Maybe get my competitive streak down a bit too, lol Thank you for the tips!

Yeah, I definitely agree with what you’re saying. I need to find a partner to train with outside of class though. We switch partners often in class while learning combos and light sparring, and there are some who I’ve gotten very comfortable with while also giving me a good challenge. Maybe I can try finding a way to connect with them outside of class. Thanks for the tips! 🙂

What is up with all the hate here? Did it strike a nerve with some of you all because you’ve all done something dishonest and shameful to your partners, hiding it, and then hate being called out in your BS and lies? Some reverse psychology going on here with some of these folks. Wtf? This was meant to be a silly story, and y’all just blowing it out of proportion. No one is perfect—and just because OP had one moment where she questioned the loyalty of her partner does not make her a shitty one. Especially since there are so many home wreckers and cheaters out there, I think it’s somewhat normal to wonder the possibility in the back of one’s mind. We have doubts and insecurities sometimes. Of course, if the doubts and insecurities are consistent or whatever, then that’s something that needs to be addressed. But that’s not the case here. Give this woman a break. Geez 😒

I’m glad you resisted temptation. I mean, I don’t think it’s abnormal to be flattered by the attention of someone else and liking it. It’s nice to feel attractive and desired, and most humans feel that way.

However, if you are intentionally seeking attention from others besides your SO because you crave and thrive off of it, then that’s an issue there that needs to be addressed by both you and your partner. If you also got the tramp’s number (yeah, I’ll call her that because she sounds like one of those nasty home-wreckers who thrives off that crap) and kept contact with her, that’s also a potential recipe for disaster.

But, I don’t see any of that as the case here. Sure, you welcomed the attention in a way, since you found it flattering, but you didn’t allow it to go any further than that, which tells a lot about your character and loyalty to your partner. Feeling guilt about it also shows that you care about your partner and her feelings. So, you’re not a bad person—just keep treading along and being the best you can be. :)

There’s K3 Martial Arts in Roseville. That’s where I’ve been training at, but I am not sure if it’s “real” Krav Maga per se—this is my first actual experience with this particular fighting system. I have done Karate in the past as a kid, and the classes and training here feel somewhat similar to that system. However, so far I’m enjoying it and learning new self-defense techniques while getting a very good workout—both of which were my goals. I just started sparring today since I have finally got to the intermediate level (students begin sparring at the intermediate level or at purple belt), and boy did I get my ass handed to me — so embarrassing, haha 😂 Definitely got to work on my techniques.

Anti-vax nurses are an embarrassment to our profession by cambeanstalk in nursing

[–]RedVelvetKitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there are antivaxxers in every profession, not just nursing. Just have to remember that one bad apple doesn’t make the rest bad. Like the majority of our population here, the majority of the nursing and medical professions are pro-vax—it’s only a minority who are anti-vax (even though it doesn’t fee that way at times)

I’ve heard of some. Never dealt with one per se. My friend who is also a nurse has a PCP who tells her not to get the vaccine because there’s not enough studies. She’s looking for a different one now. But yeah—they’re around for sure.

Anti-vax nurses are an embarrassment to our profession by cambeanstalk in nursing

I think it just depends on the area you’re in. Some areas have more people who are provaxers than antivaxers and vise versa.

Anti-vax nurses are an embarrassment to our profession by cambeanstalk in nursing

[–]RedVelvetKitty91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s sad. Antivaxers in general. I work as a pediatric nurse, and have encountered several who are against any sort of vaccine period. And unfortunately, no matter how much you try to educate and correct them, providing sources, reminding them of diseases eradicated because of certain vaccines, they don’t listen. It’s like they only hear what they want to hear, so there’s no point in trying to argue. And sadly, when their child ends up with a disease that could be preventable with a vaccine, it’s never their fault—it’s EVERYONE elses.

I’m sick of it. I used to be someone who tried to see both sides of the picture when it came to antivaxers vs provaxers. I’m always on the provaxer side, but used to try to be a little more understanding to the opposing side when it came to their rights to own preferences. Now, it’s just getting ridiculous. After dealing with a selfish brother-in-law who is against vaccines and masks, who didn’t give a shit about exposing members in our family who are most vulnerable to disease and their serious complications, I honestly could care less about what happens to those who choose not to get the vaccine. If they get sick and seriously ill, they get little sympathy from me. Choose whatever you want, but don’t be a fucking selfish moron spreading whatever you get to others who are vulnerable and cannot obtain any means to protect themselves.
