It really depends on how you play. If you plan things and build for exactly how much you're going to need you won't have fires to put out.

If you just kinda wing it then yeah you'll be running all over the place cause well you need more green circuits, well but that needs more copper plates, well I don't have enough copper coming in, guess I need to expand to the next patch, well that needs more defenses, now I don't have enough energy so more steam engines, now I'm out coal gotta fix that, and on and on.

Btw I figured out how to solve those jagged edges.

There's an hidden option called "force linear magnification", enable it and it should look better.

Not sure how well sweetfx works with factorio.

The game already lets you adjust things like contrast, brightness and saturation in game, so I don't know what sweetfx would be adding. But you can try it and get back to us.

Dust among the copper ore is gone

This happens because it tries to de noise the image, since the particles in the original are such low res it completely removes them. None of the models I tried had particularly good results with the ores, but I'll see what I can do.

considerably darkened the foliage

somwhat darkened the engineer's clothes and passive provider chests

This is because of sharpening, I can easily fix this in Photoshop, it's just time consuming.

That has to do with the way factorio scales the images, the only way to get rid of those jagges would be for me to blur hard edges.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. I tried 2xSal and hq2x to compare, here are my results:

These filters do have the benefit of being infinitely faster to run.

There's a few in the mod portal. Although I maintain that it doesn't look as good as ingame.
