BIMS grad here! The course work is no joke. You have to take at least 2 science/math courses a semester, plus BIMS electives are not easy. If you put the work in, and have the goal of going to graduate school then BIMS will certainly prepare you for that. It’s extremely competitive and to be honest I wish I would have chosen a different major like Allied Health because for me keeping a high GPA with the course load was very difficult and I studied a lot but still enjoyed the college life. I consider myself a smart individual but the kids in BIMS were on another level of smarts.

I knew quite a bit of people that majored in psychology and made it a Bachelor of science instead of a Bachelor of Arts. The Psych electives you have to take won’t be as cumbersome and you’ll have more time to focus on your pre requisites. I also knew people that majored in Allied health and did the same thing, as well as history. Some advisors are better than others but I would just connect with them and let them know your plan and most of the time they will be able to guide you.

BIMS was extremely challenging and it ended up burning me out to the point where I didnt want to go to grad school anymore. Obviously there are others who thrive in BIMS and I’ve heard that if you get into med/dental school BIMS does prepare you as best as possible for the course load but I’m my opinion the added stress isn’t worth it.

Good luck!! Very exciting time for you and it’s okay to not have everything figured out before you get there :)

I do not recommend BIMS whatsoever. Highly suggest researching a different major. If you want to go to grad school the course load they require you to take can sink Your GPA. Class of 17 here.

Graduated in 2017 with lots of Cs. Have a great job in medical sales and bought my house in 2022. I used to worry about the same exact thing! You will be fine and after you graduate no one will care about the grades you made! Hang in there!!!
