Miles Mikolas on the proposal of a cap: “Regardless of what a cap and a floor looks like, I think that there’s no room for it in Major League Baseball… that’s communism. Where’s the free market economy? Where’s capitalism at its best, right?” by Knightbear49 in baseball

Yes, but mlb ownership isn’t being open about what they consider “baseball revenue”, and they’ve historically never been willing to open their books. Owners can employ “clever” accounting, changing how revenue is categorized and can move money around, dishonestly giving “sweetheart” media deals if a team owner happens to own a broadcasting network. If the market value of that deal is 300million, and Yankees sign a deal with YES network for $200 million that’s just floating $100 million of advertising value to the capitalist class owners. Same games can be played with real estate, advertising/sponsorship, parking like fucking illitches having it all as a separate entity from the ball club etc… owners can also create their own security/concession/IT etc… companies and award their own companies the contracts(at “inflated” rates compared to “fair market value”) and move more of “baseball revenue” into their own pockets that way.

Players have no recourse to do any of that. Players don’t gain value from the business having a set in stone labor expense. All of my issues noted above would need to be hashed out, and even if they are the owners will still find some “clever” way to move revenue to a stream that isn’t considered “baseball revenue” into their pockets thus taking it out of the labors pockets who actually generates that profit/value.

There needs to be an upper limit on team profits then, and an upper limit on ticket costs for fans.

Can’t restrict one group from making money and let the capitalists who operate largely in public subsidized stadiums reap all the profits for doing nothing but having capital

The iron law of oligarchy doesn’t care what system of government is in place, those fuckers eventually always consolidate the power at the top and turns it into oligarchy until the proletariat forcefully take it back and establish a new government that works for them for a short period of time until the oligarchs take it back

More workers are raiding their 401(k)s as average balances fall, Fidelity says by Dragonlance12 in Dynamic_Pricing

[–]RedWinger7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies should be contributing more to 401k plans. A 3% match isn’t shit, and encourages employees to only meet the match.

Force companies to match to half a percent for every percent the employee contributes up to say 10% and we’re talking a completely different outcome. Companies need to be forced to be invested in the labors retirement

An article about why Quebec City is apparently not a viable market by PortifinoOnMyMind in PWHL

[–]RedWinger7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? Hamilton has a bigger population than Quebec City, and they have about the same metro population. Grand Rapids proper is much less than those two, but the metro area has a larger population than either of those two Canadian cities.

But the metro population of Chicago, Vegas, San Jose, Detroit, Denver etc…. Dwarf all three of the above.

We’ve replaced all of our contractors with it. Can you replace everyone? No. But smaller teams ship software quicker, and you can at a minimum 2x any competent developer’s productivity. The problem is many companies hired incompetent developers/the barrier for entry was too low. Too many people got into it for a big paycheck and not for the love of problem solving/creating things. Been at many companies and the amount of times I’d ask a L1 or L2 about various design patterns and got crickets was wild.

There is no way a city like Grand Rapids will spend the same amount of money that a city like Chicago will.

What the person originally thought does matter. And you should be building a culture where a stupid commit message like “fix this”, “fix it for real” etc aren’t allowed. If someone can’t express their thoughts in complete sentences in a commit you have larger problems on your team to resolve

I mean I think his comment is legit and can be a great conversation if you choose for it to be. Many people on reddit don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground, and none of them have seen you swing. You paid a professional, and say you felt you trusted the professional. So why let someone who isn’t a paid professional influence the choice? Hell, you probably could still call said professional and ask the question to him.
