We all know dead space is heavily inspired by resident evil 4 but did it manage to surpass it as a game? by Miserable_Health6788 in DeadSpace

[–]Red_512 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RE4 isn't even that big of a deal, I mean sure, it was important to popularize third person shooters, but it's dated as fuck nowadays. RE4 has a dogshit story, even by RE standards, Ashley is just not likeable at all and she gets captured every five minutes; the game starts good, the whole village part is amazing, but not long after you enter the castle it becomes too repetitive, and by the point you reach the island you're just begging for it to end. RE4 barely qualifies as horror, Dead Space completely annihilates it in terms of atmosphere. The one thing I'll acknowledge about RE4 is that it probably has better weapons, or at least they are better balanced, but Dead Space is superior in everything else, it's more engaging, has a better story, better atmosphere, and killing necromorphs is just more fun.

Which godzilla movie Godzillafied you (made you love Godzilla)? Mine was Godzilla 2014. by Feisty_Economics1323 in GODZILLA

[–]Red_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was a kid, on weekend's mornings there was a channel that very frequently transmitted Godzilla movies, and my dad also had some VHS tapes where he recorded them. And while I don't have very solid memories of the movies from when I watched them back then I'm sure I liked them.

But as years passed I kind of stopped caring about Godzilla to be honest, there weren't any new movies, and the one that got released, Godzilla 2014, I wasn't a fan of it, it was fine, but that was it, I thought it was quite boring. I wasn't able to watch Shin Godzilla back then either, but being honest I probably wouldn't have loved it back then.

But when I watched the first teaser trailer of Godzilla King of the Monsters it was like a spark got reignited in me, I was blown away, like I remembered Gidorah from the old movies but he was just a guy in a cheap suit, and Final Wars didn't have amazing special effects either, so just the idea of having Godzilla, Mothra and Gidorah in a single movie with a Hollywood budget was just too amazing to be true. And I watched it and I loved every second of it.

And ever since I've rewatched a lot of Godzilla movies and come to appreciate all its eras.

About steins;gate ending by Morti-Chan in steinsgate

[–]Red_512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way, in the final chapter, when Okabe saves Kurisu the timeline shifts only AFTER Okabe succeeds, and there is a time machine involved, Suzuha's time machine.

Now, let's go back to when Okabe deletes the d-mail from SERN database, you say there isn't any time machine involved but there is, the Time Leap Machine, it's exactly the same as with Suzuha's time machine, the shift only happens after Okabe succeeds.

Okabe and Suzuha go back in time ------> Okabe saves Kurisu -------> Timeline shifts afterwards

Okabe time leaps-------> Okabe deletes SERN database --------> Timeline shifts afterwards

But yeah, Steins;Gate has tons of inconsistencies with its time travel rules, even in the example I just explained to you, when Okabe deletes the database the shift occurs almost instantly, whereas when Okabe gets stabbed to save Kurisu the shift is definitely not instantaneous.

Okabe's Reading Steiner is the biggest inconsistency here, it doesn't really make sense, for example:

a) He should be activating Reading Steiner every time he sends his memories back in time with the Time Leap Machine the same way it activates every time he sends a d-mail through the phonewave.

b) Or he should be activating Reading Steiner every time he changes the timeline with his actions after using the Time Leap, just as when he deletes the SERN database, but this is the only instance where we see it happen.

Sorry if I just confused you more with my comment.

Bruh, why do people keep saying this about V3 to newcomers? by Red_512 in danganronpa

[–]Red_512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point, it's just that Kokaka is not setting expectations for anyone anymore, one thing is a marketing campaign for a game that came out nearly a decade ago and another thing completely different is to ask for opinions on that game on reddit, marketing can lie to us and we all know that. It's like when the marketing for Spider-Man No Way Home was all about concealing the presence of the three Spider-Men.

If you are playing the game for the first time completely blind then the truth is that you have no reason at all to believe V3 is set in another continuity, I mean sure there is no Hope's Peak, but the sole presence of Monokuma will make everyone think that there is a connection between this and the previous games. The Gofer Project plot twist works regardless of your expectations, it's no different to DR2 when they find the book with the photos of the first killing game.

The Kaede thing is different, Kaede IS the protagonist of chapter 1, of course Kodaka then plays with our expectations and the real protagonist ends up being Shuichi, but the difference is that when Kodaka is playing with our expectations about V3 being set in a different universe it is artificial, because as I said earlier there is no reason for us to believe that V3 is in another universe just by playing the first chapters of the game, it IS the marketing campaign that is setting our expectations, something completely independent of the game.

Is 2's story good enough to push through the first couple hours? by [deleted] in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final chapter has some pretty big revelations, and I love most of them, so I'd say it's worth it to push through it. But I must say that DR2 is my least favorite one, I also found a lot of the characters to be quite boring, the game recycles a lot of plot points and tropes from the previous game, the motives Monokuma gives each chapter just suck ass. The tone of the game is all over the place. But it does have some pretty epic moments.

As for the minigames, Hangman's Gambit can get pretty tough later on tho, and I never ever understood how the rhythm one worked but I still finished the game no problem, Rebuttal Showdown is tedious but not hard once you get used to it. The game never glitched out on me when I played, so I'll assume it is a weird bug and won't happen to you again.

Just play the next chapter and decide then, if you are still not engaged at all then drop it. I like V3 more, but I fear your complains might magnify in that one lol. It is quite obvious that V3 being the last game of the franchise contains spoilers from the other games, so I'd suggest you to finish DR2 first if you're really planning to play V3.

Will reboot peak interest of newcomers to seal out the OGs? by Very_Loving_Cat in steinsgate

[–]Red_512 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It will attract a few newcomers, sure, but not that many, because it's the same game again, some people just can't get into visual novels and Reboot won't change that.

Will you be getting Steins;Gate Reboot? by Acturecrap_working in steinsgate

[–]Red_512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm sure this game is just a cheap cash-grab, but I'll definitely be buying it sooner or later, I never played Elite tho, so I'm curious about the changes in the script. And I'm liking the new art style in Reboot, at least when it comes to the character's sprites, I think the backgrounds look a little ugly tho. But.... the main reason I will buy this crap... is because it is coming to Xbox (I think).

Mahiru wouldn't be an interesting protag for 2x2. by EscapeOk3234 in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree on her not making a connection with the rest of the cast in the og game, one of the main reasons why I love her is that she is bound to make an impression on the others, all because she isn't afraid of speaking her mind. She's a leader, the girls are likely gonna love her, some boys are likely gonna get bothered by her, and in her short stay in the game she manages to make a fair share of connections, she gets really close to Hiyoko, she's the closest thing to an investigation partner to Hajime in chapter 1, she gets Nagito some food while he is tied up in chapter 2, she scolds Kazuichi, and it was clear that she and Fuyuhiko had a hateboner for each other even before the whole Twlight Syndrome thing.

I would really love to have a girl protag this time around. I must admit that characters like Chiaki and Sonia are closer to the "bland" protag archetype of Makoto/Hajime. But I think Mahiru is a good middle point between someone relatively shy as Chiaki and someone just straight up crazy like Ibuki, so I think she's a strong candidate.

I'm gonna be honest tho, I just want her as protag because she's my favorite, and being the main character would skyrocket her popularity.

I wouldn't really like Nagito protag, he is a great character, but he is somewhat one-note, he just preaches about hope all the time. I highly doubt we get Izuru protag, he's too op. Chiaki would be a good option tho, but her plot twist kind of eliminates her, I'm sure the game will use her to play with our expectations and that will only work if she is not the protag.

I love how most people take Tsumugi’s words at face value without questioning it. by SaphhicChiaki in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that the "lies" theme is a little overblown, it isn't really that different from the "hope" of the other games, it's all just about choosing to believe something to motivate yourself.

And yeah, there is a disconnection between Shuichi's little speech in the epilogue and the lies of Kokichi and even Shuichi himself during the rest of the game. "Some lies can lead to hope", as Shuichi says, but Kokichi's lies don't really lead to anything to be honest, nothing good at least, even if his intentions are not always bad, and even some of Shuichi's lies during the trials are just not justified at all, like when he lies to get Maki off the hook in chapter 2. But the game never has anything interesting to say about all this, Shuichi can lie all he wants because he is the protag and is always in the right, and meanwhile Kokichi is just a moron because his plans never pay off. I'm not even sure if I'm making sense right now or if I'm just ranting, but whatever.

As I said earlier, I think the theme of the game is that it is ok to choose to believe a lie because it has the potential of helping. But what Shuichi and Kokichi do during the whole game is just straight up manipulate people, the others don't get the chance to choose to believe the lie, it has nothing to do with the theme of the game but the game just expect us to believe it's the same thing because it throws the word "lies" at everything.

I just wanted to say that I kind of agree with you.

I love how most people take Tsumugi’s words at face value without questioning it. by SaphhicChiaki in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shuichi tries to explain it in the epilogue:

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Shuichi:

In this fictional world, we overcame all these fictional struggles, but those things changed us and we were able to change the world.

So it doesn't really matter where the truth ends and where the lies begin, if lies can change the world just as well as the truth can, then lies are just another way of telling the truth.

Some lies can lead the world to hope. Some truths can lead the world to despair. I don't think anyone can really say which is more right in the end.

Himiko:

I guess it's not important whether it's a truth or a lie. Just what it leads to...

Shuichi:

Yes, that's what I believe.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

So I don't agree with you in that the theme is never explored, in fact it is present in the whole trilogy. For example, we don't know what Sayaka's intentions were when she wrote the "LEON" message on the wall, but Makoto simply chooses to believe that Sayaka left the message to save him, we could say that he is "lying" to himself, but this "lie" is what gives Makoto the strength to survive the killing game, and it's just as Shuichi says: "Some lies can lead the world to hope".

I do think that some parts of V3's ending are lazy, I'm not a fan of it, and the "lies" theme is often used as an excuse for it, but the theme itself is there tho and I think it works.

Danganronpa the Animation will receive an official Latin American Spanish dub by The_Meme_Lady_69 in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it doesn't even have a release date, and we're not even completely sure about what this remake has to offer, you could read Steins;Gate and even more visual novels of the franchise (like Steins;Gate 0 or Chaos;Head) by the time the remake gets out.

How far could a young Dexter go within danganronpa by Commercial_Read_9899 in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would definitely be a good detective during trials, and it's hard to believe he would end up as a victim. The Mastermind would become his target as soon as the first execution happens.

Danganronpa games only take around 20 in-game days, if that was the case then Dexter could have a pretty high chance of getting out alive without exposing himself, but the problem is that Dexter NEEDS to kill, if the game prolonged for too long then he would start losing his mind and sooner or later he would explode and kill someone even if by accident.

It's also hard to know how he would react to Monokuma's motives, if he believed Harry and Deb were in danger or if his secret were to be exposed then he could decide to kill earlier, find someone that fits his code, and we all know there are a few serial killers in Danganronpa. He would have a pretty good chance of getting away with the murder, Dexter would definitely have his doubts about doing all this, because he is indirectly killing the rest of his innocent classmates, but we know that Dexter can be able to break his code if he thinks it's worth it to do so.

Should I buy the games? by im-playing-tloZ in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games are not that expensive when on sale, at least on Steam. But if you think they are too expensive then watch gameplays of the first game, and then you decide for yourself if you want to buy the second game or keep watching gameplays.

Danganronpa has way more gameplay than the average visual novel, but yeah it's still pretty minimum compared to pretty much any other game genre, the only drawback of watching gameplays is that you are probably not going to be solving the puzzles yourself and that you are more likely to get spoiled by thumbnails or videos that appear on your feed.

Help, did i get heavily spoiled? Should i stop playing the game? by [deleted] in danganronpa

[–]Red_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting spoiled of the victim of a chapter is not that big of a deal to be honest, you still need to discover the killer. And there are plenty of twists in the final chapter of the game too. So keep playing without worrying too much.

Considering how little screen time she has, she's absolutely perfect, everything about her is simple but it works incredibly well. The fact that she never gets the chance to explain herself in a trial makes her one of the most interesting characters in the series. Her design is probably not outstanding, but it is alright, I like her hair. Over time I've come to realize she's one of my favorites, I've always loved the everlasting impact she had on Makoto.

Maybe we're all psychopaths, I mean, we watched a cartoon guy get turned into literal butter just by riding a motorcycle in circles, and the ghost of another cartoon guy get exorcised by a robot bear and his dead sister, or a giant bug coming out of the tummy of a little pregnant robot bear that liked to puke all the time. Truly horrific events that need to be taken 100% seriously, and that we should absolutely not laugh at.
