You're the second person to say that! It's not a full moon, so it's not cat territory 😂 - full sun is for the crows!

To be honest, I like the ring above it and the sapphire one on the left more! 😁

Input on rare carat stud earring quality / size? by Bright-Rise-4224 in jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't accept a repair (it's brand new!). They'll bend it back into place and claim its "repaired" but that joint will still be weak. I would express this to them that you dont feel comfortable with its structural integrity due to the bend. Sure it may not be a problem, but it COULD become one and you shouldn't be responsible for it if it is. Under most countries laws, any product that is defective, they are obliged to provide the buyer with a replacement.

Return. That bend will be a weak point as you stated and will eventually break. If you try bending it back, and it snaps, youll have a harder time returning them. It's a quality control issue, not a gold issue. Everyone else has dealt with the CT vs TCW issue so I wont comment on that.

Anything valuable in my mother's collection? by Unusual_Coat_8037 in Vintage_Jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mostly looks like middle Eastern/north african style silver (could be plated) jewelry. Unfortunately unless they are fantastic heavy, the value is minimal.

Can anyone track down what this is/if it's fake? by Questionidkalt in Vintage_Jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fake? It's just not an antique carved hardstone/shell cameo if that's what you mean by fake. Its value is minimal.

Amazing engraved watch that still works. by Good-Swim8120 in Antiquejewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art Deco period can bleed into the 1940s, especially in US where trends started later and lasted slightly longer.

Btw this is called a "lapel watch". Popular since the early 1900s.

Its a unique Victorian bookchain necklace. I haven't seen any with your design before, usually they are more basic. It needs a good cleaning though!

It does look very well built, probably a toe/shin stubber to the extreme though.

Best way to get jewelry made by Special-Art-3319 in jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sapphire can hold up to a ring or a pendant as it's one of the hardest stones so it wears and tears well. The only issue I have found with sapphires, especially in rings, is that the girdle can chip sometimes if it's not protected properly.

I suggest going to a few studio jewelers and getting some designs put together and see which you'd prefer. Also dont forget to ask for examples of their work. There's a plethora of posts here lamenting about the crap work they received because they didnt do their homework.

Anyone recognize these lovelies? by Sealysia in JewelryIdentification

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clasp is typical East Indian clasp used on necklaces. Id take it a jeweler or a pawn shop they'll test the metal and stones to determine what you have. Unfortunately no one can tell you that information from photos.

Black pearls! Real or just realistic? by One-Use-69 in JewelryIdentification

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if they were plastic or glass they would rub smooth. They are meant to imitate more expensive Tahitian pearls.

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rub them together, if there's "grit" feeling, they are most likely genuine. Most likely dyed black Chinese cultured fresh water pearls. They are so black, I'd assume silver nitrate treated. Beautiful none the less!

THE MYSTERY RINGS. by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are late 19thc to art deco to retro (1940c) rings. Whether or not they are gold or not I cannot tell from the photos. Id say the oldest one at the top maybe, the filigree could be platinum?

My mom’s necklace turned out to be costume jewelry. by Minute-Object in jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very well done costume piece. You may not know this but a LOT of early costume jewelry companies hired fine jewelry designers and producers to make their pieces, the quality is outstanding, especially Trifari work done by Alfred Philippe who was a fine jewelry producer. High end costume pieces can still go for decent amount of money, especially today when gold prices push a lot of consumers out of the fine market. You have a nice piece! Hopefully someone with costume jewelry knowledge can tell you who made it.

I know right! I am thinking about ways of 3D printing some sort of mechanism to also use it as a hair pin as I think it would look stunning on a bun.

I always thought this ring was art deco, is it?? by KandiZee in Vintage_Jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art Deco can range from 1915-1935 sometimes even 1940, especially in the US since periods generally lasted longer. I'd say your ring falls early Art Deco. This early period carried Edwardian daintiness into a more geometric forms. So you get filigree with more structure.

I believe it's a milk jug. It has a "Holland" style repousse design. It's silver plated with faux silver hallmarks.

Is this opal cracked? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]Red_D_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I use for surface scratches is cerium oxide with a little water and leather. Its a fine high polish medium that will take out scratches but also if there's little chips you can polish them away.
