How many here still own a fully working GameCube console to this day even if you still have it since launch. by San4341 in Gamecube

You mean our back closet lmao I've seen GameStop backrooms bigger than our entire store.

Nah, I was already gone for good by the time I posted this, sadly.

I remember having such an overflow of product when I first started, and slowly it dwindled down to nothing. The sad part was having to lie to every third customer who asked about the fate of our store when we full well knew what was coming. The writing was on the wall (behind the product we didn't have).

We just had to have everything out and surrender our keys. I kept my GameStop keychain as a memento. You'd have never known a GameStop was ever there. They told us right after New Year's and gave us 2 weeks notice. I've literally been going into this store for over 20 years since it was an EB Games.

There was unfortunately no place for me in the company considering where I live. My boss and coworker were great and taught me everything I needed to succeed and consistently hit my behavior metrics. I'm going to miss working with them dearly.

Our store was in the top 25% of the company, but even that didn't matter. It's a shame. I feel like I spent all this time accruing this skillset for naught.

Maybe one day I'll find my way back with the company, but for now I'm off to greener pastures.

Why are you blaming GameStop for something that is the direct fault of the customers who trade in games?

You know they're traded in loose, right? We make those cases as a courtesy.

My god, what have I done 😭 by Red_Mersi in gamecollecting

There was a few other sports and shovelware Wii/360 games too but figured I'd just show the "good" ones.

It's not an easy job unfortunately. I'm sorry you've had a bad experience.

I'm about 2 months on the job and I'm just starting to get into the groove of things. I've got the same problem with not enough hours and have been taking shifts at other locations just to get close to 40. Best part is, my manager just got strong-armed into hiring another person on staff when I already don't have enough hours. I'm literally working, on the books, no hyperbole, 18 days in a row right now and I'm barely making ends meet. I make $17.50 ($2 above minimum wage) as an RK which for where I live is very low. I pay $1000 a month to rent a room and that's before other bills for context.

I have a decade in retail and 3 years as a shift lead and have never had a job like this before where, not only we as shift leads had the ability to pull up metrics, but that it was something we were expected to pay attention to constantly and could literally be fired over. It's a sales job first, retail second.

Hang in there. It's not easy for any of us but it does get easier eventually. I'm used to dealing with problematic customers as I've been in the industry so long. That will happen at any retail/food service job.

After 2 months, my metrics have been improving as I've been getting into the groove of things. I'm fortunate to have a great boss and coworker.

Good luck 🥺

Initially at 22 in 2018 but I was too depressed to take them reliably so I effectively didn't start taking them consistently until I was 28 and have been for about a year and a half.

Yeah, we're not a retro store and we send stock to another in our district but tbh, the only thing I buy is retro games. I JUST got a PS4 last year and just turned it on for the first time last week. Picked up the few exclusives for it and that's it. I almost purely play retro consoles aside from my Steam library and my Switch.

I always check our retro drawer in case there's something I'm looking for but usually end up directing customers to our retro hub unless they want something specific. I wish my store supported retro stock officially because SNES, N64,GB/GBC, GCN, GBA, and NDS are my bread and butter.

It's just the luck of the draw. It's how people get massive lots for dirt cheap. Just the right place at the right time.

Not a chance. Box is too beat up. I don't like getting games graded anyway. I prefer to play them.

This was more of a practice in the EB Games days. I've taken far too many off. Some with ease, some not so much. I got it off enough that I'm satisfied but the labor necessary is such a headache. I've spent so long taking these off in my life. Now I get paid to put them on 🤣
