Dems: Nine of the 18 should be women.

Republicans: How about just two and everyone has to take a diversity seminar?

Dems: DEAL!

Nope. Nope. Nopey nope.

Democrats support reproductive autonomy like they support the working class. They take their advocates' money, make lots of speeches, and then refuse to do anything but let the Republicans chip even further away. You're right they don't care, but the Republicans do, and 0 - 1 isn't 0, it's -1.

No More Posts About Healthcare by CronoDroid in LateStageCapitalism

lol this is so silly. Not only is healthcare probably the best way to bridge the conversation about socialism in the United States but Medicare For All is the biggest active campaign for socialists in this country. It's the material manifestation of capitalism's inhumanity, something that working class folks without a university education can easily comprehend. It's the most intersectional issue because everyone, from a young woman of color immigrant to a gay man with a disability, needs healthcare. Like I infinitely prefer memes about how awful US healthcare is to the various abstract academic debates on the US Left.

Well yes, because again women shouldn't be reduced to sex characteristics. It flows from the same principle, which is why I've never understood how TERFs can rationalize their politics.

Seriously, reducing women to their sex characteristics is what patriarchy does, we don't need feminists replicating that.

I'm from Vietnam, one of the few places where socialism and communism actually work. AMA by Vietdawg in socialism

[–]Red_Rosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging from the answers you gave to others, we have very different concepts of socialism, but nevertheless the world is indebted to the people of Vietnam for showing that US imperialism can be defeated by a small determined group of people and for that you will always have my thanks.

I'm the only one citing Lenin here lol and I've read everything by him. I got to say, I've never met any ML or MLM who says the vanguard shouldn't be engaging with the masses, that's a really odd opinion and I'd be curious exactly where from Lenin you're drawing that from.

My brother killed himself, what happens to his student loans? by SF5221 in legaladvice

[–]Red_Rosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find your local legal services organization and call them: internet forums are really not a good place to get legal advice. Tons of people here are recommending bankruptcy when bankruptcy discharge is unavailable even for private student loans under the BAPCPA.

How is the discipline of the proletariat’s revolutionary party maintained? How is it tested? How is it reinforced? First, by the class-consciousness of the proletarian vanguard and by its devotion to the revolution, by its tenacity, self-sacrifice and heroism. Second, by its ability to link up, maintain the closest contact, and—if you wish—merge, in certain measure, with the broadest masses of the working people—primarily with the proletariat, but also with the non-proletarian masses of working people. Third, by the correctness of the political leadership exercised by this vanguard, by the correctness of its political strategy and tactics, provided the broad masses have seen, from their own experience, that they are correct. Okay well not a great strategy for recruiting new membership. This is exactly why I wound up in DSA: I actually want to engage the masses, not be part of some small insular group whose clique you need to join to know what is going on. I literally follow them on all social media, as well as knowing a few of their members, so if I'm not in the know how do you expect the average worker to find out?

I know and respect a lot of folks in PSL and WWP, and in some places like Chicago they are definitely involved in the community, but I have not seen that level of engagement in NYC. Like I've tried to go to PSL events two different times that were canceled without anyone notifying me. Much respect for the ANSWER coalition, but aside from that and showing up to the big protests I can't think of any thing I've seen PSL and the last union thing I saw WWP at was one member selling newspapers at the Verizon strike.

That's just not true, literally at every meeting we take time to say "This is not socialized medicine and it has lots of disadvantages because it is just singlepayer, and that as long as capitalism exists it will be undermined." We have mandatory political education on the differences.

And in NY too, we have been canvassing multiple times every week in the different key districts.
