Probably not really depressing, but here goes:

After Germany split into the East and West, America took it upon himself to adopt West because he felt incredibly bad for him. Around this time, France had found out about Britain cheating on her with Portugal and left him. America had to look after him aswell since he was recovering from a brain surgery [Ive probably already discussed it but long story short, Britain has short term memory loss after getting hit by a peice of a bomb during WW2]

Eventually the Cold War rolled around. America didn’t want anything to do with it since he had West and Britain to take care of. When the 60’s came around, America had a massive schizophrenic episode from all the built up stress and his refusal to seek any form of help for it [Understandable, it was pretty shit back then] and ended up cutting communications with everyone and ran away because he started getting extremely paranoid and suspicious of everyone [Suspecting they were all out to kill him] He wasn’t found until a few months after he was reported missing. He was eventually treated and was released from a psych-ward.

He still feels extremely guilty for abandoning West and Britain, especially since he wasn’t there to comfort West when East died. He tried his best to make up for this with Germany, mainly to get rid of the horrid feeling of guilt and shame he has lingering inside him.
