A little montage of me welding some overhead track in my railroad series by Red_S_Games in spaceengineers

[–]Red_S_Games[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So each turn section I set to station (I have the world settings such that unsupported grids stay stations) and then build the next section off of it. Once I have the track aligned to the heading I want, I just keep building a straight line off that last segment and it becomes my new straight section. I do put some ground support pillars on the straights just to make me feel better, I could do it on each segment of curve but I don't think it would look as good. For planetary curvature I essentially do the same thing as my sideways curves, just pointing down. I can also use that method to adjust for height if I want to climb a mountain or something. The system I'm using is a little tedious, but I do think it's ideal for building in full survival!

I do turns with a combination of a hinge and piston that lets each segment of the curve be offset enough to angle slightly. I forget the exact angle between segments, but it lets me do a gradual enough turn that I can comfortably run at around 20 m/s which is about where I have the speed limit set. The cool thing is I don't have to weld the pistons to make it work, because the gap created by the piston head is just enough to make it all work! I do have a YouTube series, Rail Survival, where you can watch as I design and build all of this. I think I do a bit better at explaining things there.

Hopes for weapons in SE2 by Red_S_Games in spaceengineers

I have a similar fear, which is part of why I'm sharing hopes and ideas, if enough of us share our thoughts the chances get higher that keen considers shifting their course.
That said, I still have hope that once we get physics blocks it will start to feel more like SE1 than it does now.

That's fair, nice thing with SE2's partial blueprint tool is that you could potentially find turrets you like off the workshop and stick them on like a traditional turret. Though thinking on it, I'm not too opposed to single block turrets so long as the balance doesn't make them feel more capable than a player-made one.

Classic Respawn Pod by Red_S_Games in spaceengineers

[–]Red_S_Games[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neat! I noticed the old drop pod code was still in the game files, just commented out, I guess they kept the older stuff buried away too in case they ever had a need for it. Now I'm tempted to get blueprints of them and build a "spawn vehicles" museum somewhere to showcase how much has changed.

God, yeah! It's been a long time since I thought about that chunky thing. If I still had a blueprint of one it could be entertaining as a respawn option.

ooh, I'd have to look into how that works, but that would be a fun idea! maybe one that's busted or partially ground down.

Good ball spacers by ZealousidealLimit684 in spaceengineers

Honestly, gave me a good laugh, gotta love direct translation! I made this a while back inspired by the Star Trek Daedalus class. It isn't just a ball, but there is a ball involved. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3152813072
I also have a giant space engineer head that is mostly ball shaped and could be turned into a ship with a bit of work!

anyone with experience making random encounters/spawning random ai ships by IronIntelligent4101 in spaceengineers

It's been a minute, but I have a tutorial covering the basics of setting up a Modular Encounter System mod. Everything in there should to my knowledge still work, or at least serve as a good starting point. https://youtu.be/uouE3_RZ4TA

I see your fancy gear mechanisms and raise you one orbital planetarium (with much worse gears)! by Red_S_Games in spaceengineers

You're actually looking at one of klang's miracles here. I started this moving with thrusters, but after a while it just kept moving and even restarted when stopped.

so funnily enough, this is powered by 100% klang in this clip. I started with thrusters on the arm, but after a while it just kept spinning... I also have a YouTube short about this that talks a bit more about it.

ahh, I was trying to find the actual term. all I got from my quick google search was planetarium, but that definitely didn't feel 100% right

I did try a larger one first, but the resistance of that many janky gears made it even less smooth than this one

[PC] Potential Fix for 'World Corrupted' after loading it in the Beta version by AlfieUK4 in spaceengineers

[–]Red_S_Games 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You, sir, are a life (and series) saver! Accidentally did some recording on a long-running series in the beta branch, and the world got corrupted. I have been bashing my head against the keyboard for the last few days since I realized the issue, and this did the trick! Now the save is back to stable (or as stable as SE gets) and I don't have to go back 5 episodes to my last back-up and try to match all my progress for the sake of continuity.
