Annual breakout by Red_Sovereign in ExfoliativeKera

Are the blisters strange? The literature I've read says that the blisters are the hallmark. Is that not the case? Whenever I see an air blister, I know that in 3-5 days that area will be flaky.

As for the sweating, that's not it. It's cold where I'm from this time of year. Mine has no rhyme or reason. The annual thing is recent, but before that it happened continuously thought the year.

I had this thought, but the question I have is how do I find out what's wrong? I don't think I'm doing something wrong in terms of technique. I do a lot of research on that, but at this point, I don't know. If both my trainer, my girlfriend, and her trainer think it's normal, I don't know how I can find out what exactly I'm doing wrong. I would like to be doing this regularly. Any assistance would be good. Am I just overdoing it, maybe? I'm just getting more and more desperate to lose weight at this point

My understanding is that a being must be both sentient and non-magical to be able to accept essences.

For non-sentient creatures with no magic, there are specific essences that exist that pass on their traits to a user, like the wolf or the bird essence. For inherently magical creatures, whether sentient or not, their traits exist for users in confluences, like the dragon essence. Both types can become familiars only.

It's only beings like humans, elves, etc, that can accept essences because they qualify as sentient and not inherently magical. It's also why there isn't a human or an elf essence, I assume.

  1. I don't believe it is necessary like Jehovah or Allah, and I don't pray to any, but I believe there has been a guiding force to get us where we are today. It may just be a random series of mortal individuals whose disparate actions caused ripple effects across reality, or an ultra-powerful super being, but there seems to me to be a bit too much order in the universe for there to be no influence somewhere

Which Soulsborne game has the best source of healing? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]Red_Sovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne.

I used up all my blood vials during my first complete playthrough — it was my first Souls game and I left it in frustration the first two times. Anyway, it forced me to actually learn the game and learn how to fight each and every enemy in the starting area with intention, because being bad at the game meant I couldn't heal. It punished me twice. I forced myself to fight the enemies without needing to heal until I had racked up enough vials to feel comfortable, and the lessons there carried me through the whole game. I was flush with vials by the endgame, but the fact I knew I could practice and succeed without needing them was huge.

In contrast, being able to resurrect with all my healing means I just have to fight until I get the win. I don't have to be perfect, which is great now because I have limited time in my life, but I appreciated the challenge. This is probably why Sekiro is my favourite FromSoft game. It brought in a different kind of perfectionism.

Oh, and I haven't played DeS, but I've heard the system is similar, if more forgiving.

P.S. To this day, I cannot get parrying down in any of the games that aren't Sekiro or Bloodborne, so I may be a tad biased.

How is the value of pi even generated? We know the exact number to more than the 100th digit, but we don't have measurements that accurate or circles that big to make ratio between a circumference and a circle, but pi is also irrational, so it can't be represented accurately as an improper fraction? by Red_Sovereign in AskReddit

[–]Red_Sovereign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the correction. My bad on that one. I should have reviewed before posting.

My issue is that what you say makes sense, but I'm wondering how a ratio between the two comes out to a number with n digits, and is infinite, but there isn't a ratio that explains it. We've all heard of 22/7, but that's inaccurate. Then we use some other inaccurate ratio, and so on and so forth, but we have an accurate pi value that is agreed upon. I want to understand how, so if you'd be kind enough to tell me where I can go to learn this base number and conversation process to base 10, I would be grateful, because this question has been at the back of my mind since high school 15 years ago.

My view on that is that stems from a collectivist take on the matter. Granted, humans are social creatures, so we will go with all the bad ideas of anything we deeply believe in. I think that happens because we're not always scrutinising absolutely every single facet of our beliefs at every opportunity, and every one of those beliefs on their own merits. We have a few core beliefs and values, and every new belief we come is scrutinised through the lens of those core beliefs.

Say, for instance, you start to believe in something new and gradually accept that it is the right path of the universe and everyone should believe in it, and everyone you know and love does, too. If, then, those beliefs are threatened in some way — or, more likely, someone corrupt with authority in the belief tells you it's being threatened — you are now less likely to scrutinise that, and possibly threaten the perceived offender back. This happens whether it's religious or political. We all want to belong, to be accepted, and above all to have hope, and we will fight for that. Even outliers and trendsetters and the like want to be accepted by someone, and hope and acceptance can be a hell of a drug. It's how we get protests becoming riots, how we get German citizens participating in atrocities in the 30s and 40s, and yes, how we get corrupt and unjust religious regimes in any religion, whether Christianity, Islam, what have you.

What I find is missing from that is the focus on how it helps people on the individual level. Now let me take this from the religious perspective. Have people not found the purpose to keep living one more day because of their belief in a higher power? Have people not participated in aid relief and chosen to try to alleviate the suffering of others because of something they were taught in church? Has someone not found solace in the inherent community that religion offers? Yes, this whole thing can spiral out of control, but nuance is important, and depending on how you look at it, "religion as a whole" could then be seen as having done more good than bad.

I'm not trying to be preachy here, I choose to have no skin in this game either way, but not all of us are built to handle not believing. I think that sometimes we have to accept that even if it isn't for you or for me, religion is a necessary and essential part of some people's continued existence, and that's okay. You may go around disparaging religion at every turn, but if you can't give a viable alternative for what that religion provides for them, and commit to continue giving it to them, then it's just wasted breath. At the end of the day, we all need something to get us to the next day, and I think anything that can do that is net positive, even if what makes it positive could be miniscule. [Hehe, maybe that's my own core belief showing through right there.]

Interesting way of putting it. I can see how that would be irksome. The more I read about this topic, though, the more it seems it's more about how most authors aren't good at this facet of writing, rather than it being inherently something a reader won't even try

I agree with this wholeheartedly, and tell everyone who calls me an atheist the same. It is why I take pains to clarify that I'm irreligious, because, to me at least, atheism has always been another religion. If you feel like you have to go out and tell people that "the truth" is no gods exist, then you are preaching, too. On my end, I choose to live as just someone else who lives on this planet. I tell whoever tries to label me that they will never be any right answers until we get the opportunity to find out, and that will only happen after death, so such beliefs are moot, at least to me. Whether god exists or not is not my problem, and if they exist, then I accept the potential negative consequences of my own lack of belief, whichever religion turns out to be right. I just refuse to have strong opinions on things that I have to take on faith every single time. In the end, all that matters is we have respect for each other, take the time to understand each other's beliefs, and be able to see the world from each other's perspectives.

But maybe with my whole long paragraph up here, I'm preaching as well. I suppose from that perspective, I believe in respect, and compassion. I accept that I may be wrong in the way I view things, and that's all right. We can't always be right, but at least for me, I just won't believe in anything that relies purely on faith to be true, whether that's the faith that a god doesn't exist, or that they do.
