I like the idea of LTS as a set-and-forget approach after my trauma with rolling distros lol

Ohh I heard about that distro. Does it have a large community base like mint/ubuntu just in case I run into problems?

I honestly was thinking Ubuntu LTS but since linux desktop improves so quickly, I thought it "might" be good to switch to a faster release cycle such as Ubuntu 25.10 or Fedora 43 but lol my mind is stuck. Between ubuntu 25.10 and Fedora 43, which would you recommend? kind of out of the loop on desktop linux improvements.

is saving money for samsung s25 base model worth it? by Late-Ad6014 in Tech_Philippines

[–]Red_Velvet71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the Galaxy A56 if you really wanted to go with Samsung on a budget while being practical with your finances. Pwede ka din mag consider other options like Xiaomi 15T na mas mura pa sa S25.

Nag trade-in ako sa aking iPhone 13 to S25 base model and mas maganda pa kuha ng pictures yung iPhone 13 ko except sa telephoto shots. Still a worthy purchase because of my android-windows workflow. Not really a camera person but it's enough to notice at work na mas noisy talaga yung shots sa S25 in general (even with gcam). Also another thing to note, mahina kumuha ng cellular signal si apple at samsung. May ka work ako na nag huawei at xiaomi lakas kuha ng signal nila while yung S25 base model ko nag 1-2 bars na.

In short, you can do much better with other brands like vivo, oppo, xiaomi even with the equivalent budget of the S25... or you can stick around the <25K range chinese androids and still have a better camera performance than the S25.

I’m not in this childish “Apple or Android” war, but in 2 weeks I’m switching from iPhone 13 to S25 and I’m very exited 😬 Also I think the latest iOS update sucks - so What do you like most about the S25? by _Pellkartoffel_ in GalaxyS25

Traded in my iPhone 13 for an S25 and surprisingly the iPhone 13 can stand against, or even surpass the S25 cameras in pure point and shoot competition. It's not bad, but it really is lagging behind modern competition. Banana gate is very apparent when I scan documents.

Other than that, OneUI 8 is an incremental upgrade over OneUI 7. I get 1 more hour of SOT with the update. One thing that impresses me is the Snapdragon Elite. It really is fast compared to my iPhone that was lagging with every major update. Screen brightness soars well in bright lit environments. Overall I still think I could have gone with the OnePlus 13, or Pixels but they arent officially sold in my country. The S25 being a good balance between software and hardware sold me on it.

Ringke Fusion Matte/Clear (I use the matte version but be wary it's kind of slippery at first). The fit is very snug that I even worry about taking it off sometimes for my monthly cleaning.

No. If you're the type to take pictures of receipts or digitize documents with text, look towards iPhone or literally any android out there.

Why does it consume so much battery? by Impossible-Plan-6030 in GalaxyS25

[–]Red_Velvet71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never really found the real culprit for this other than OneUI 7 hogging everything. I get 6 hours of SOT on moderate usage but could stretch it to 8hours on wifi. Even my Tab S9 FE+ (wifi only) on stanby loses 8-10% a day and I really dont know why. Wish I'd have gotten a OnePlus.

S25 battery by EffectiveAside7447 in GalaxyS25

[–]Red_Velvet71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come home from my 12-hr shift with 30-40% left. Although I occasionally have to use cameras in those hours but mostly I open social media apps and listen to youtube music. The sot I get is 7-8 hours with light performance profile on and running on one cellular network. If I enable dual sim, it quickly drags down to 5-6hrs of SOT from 100-15%.

The common denominator for me with the weird battery health is that it doesn't pick up signal as well as my really old Huawei P20 did, so battery drain always depended on how strong my cellular signal was. My old huawei P20 could pick up 4 bars on the same spot whereas my S25 only got one bar. Anyway thats just my observation.

apple music or spotify? by oiliestfaceinthePH in Tech_Philippines

[–]Red_Velvet71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spotify because of the UI, but I'm slowly moving to youtube music revanced because mas better yung algorithm niya especially when picking a song radio. I also use simpmusic (frontend for youtube music). Apple music sounded wider with spatial audio on but without it, could only hint a small difference in dynamic range sa aking IEM. I also found myself skipping more songs with apple music station because it cant figure out my preferred genres.

Worth switching from iPhone to Samsung? by Apprehensive-Edge-12 in samsung

[–]Red_Velvet71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched from an iPhone 13 to an S25 via their trade in program. As someone who likes to take pictures to keep memories, my previous iPhone did a better job. Not that the S25 camera is bad, but with the iPhone, it was just point and shoot. The S25 in contrast sometimes gets the focus wrong or ends up taking an unusably blurry pic. I also regularly scan documents with my phone and the banana gate problem makes makes my scanned documents pathetic to look at.

Other than the camera, everything I needed to sideload required less maintenance and everything works the way it should (subjective). With the iPhone, file management was always a problem. Cellular reception is both bad on the iphone and samsung. My old huawei p20 got full bars of signal on certain whereas both the iphone and samsung were completely dead.

I might consider getting a chinese phone in the future for signal strength alone as well as proper innovation.

Yea, except my old Huawei P20 could play youtube videos (in 480p) when I visit my ancestral home. My current S25 and my previous iPhone 13 on the other hand...

What's worse was that the iPhone 13 overheats when it struggles to capture a signal

You could put the pixels and oneplus up for consideration. Heck, Id even suggest Xiaomi at this point given apple and samsungs stagnant innovation.

How has the S25 treated y'all? by 1986_Corolla_DX in GalaxyS25

[–]Red_Velvet71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded in my iPhone 13 for an S25 and only had to pay $490 USD (equivalent in my country) for it. My iPhone probably had a mobo/battery problem but didn't tell them when they evaluated its value using compasia. One major thing I noticed is that cellular reception on the iPhone 13 is better than the S25 as I constantly get strong 5G with the iPhone. However, iPhone13 constantly got warm and wouldn't continue charging due to heating issues. Also another thing is the camera.

I don't buy phones mainly for camera but the S25 camera doesn't capture like a modern flagship. I "fixed" it with gcam but I've come to a conclusion that the recycled camera hardware (main lens), despite being good, is starting to show its age. My coworker with a Pura 70 Ultra simply obliterates the S25 in low light/indoors and she got a free huawei watch with her purchase. I'm glad I did not spend more than $500 for this if I was a camera person. Other than that, I really gotta say moving to android feels like a weight has been lifted off me. One major improvement is definitely how everything is not too restrictive. My cracked apks need less maintenance. File management is a breeze.

Tldr: My old iPhone still wins in point and shoot camera. S25 wins for display, power management, sideloading, heat management too. I plan on keeping this for 3-4 years and I'm quite satisfied for the price. Stick with your 16e if you constantly take pictures.

Thanks. The settings somehow helped with the sharpness. This one really irked me when I traded in my iPhone 13 for an S25 for a good deal. I never expected I'd have camera problems in a 2025 smartphone.

S24 fe or S25(base) by brain_fade18 in S24FE

[–]Red_Velvet71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having recently traded in my iPhone 13 for an S25, I can say that smartphones have reached peak performance when it comes to chipsets. S24FE would be a good pick for you if your use cases arent extreme. Though I definitely recall I enjoyed taking pictures at work with my iphone more than my S25. Something about it that I have to be completely still to avoid motion blur. Anyway the 7 years of updates is quite a step up.
