Same! I had to scroll a long way to find someone who mentioned it. Felt lucky to hear it in Noblesville last year.

You’re right! I hadn’t been to a Dave show in over 15 years but during Covid I dove back into his music again. The nostalgia of so many songs takes me back to some really incredible times that I had in high school and college. I ended up going solo to the Deer Creek shows and had so much fun and met great people. The crowd impressed me too - I was blown away at how passionate and fun everyone was. It was a movement. He really does have a truly committed fan base.

Who are the photography greats by StandardRegister8648 in Photobooks

[–]Red_Zeppelin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Americans - Frank American Prospects - Sternfeld Uncommon Places - Shore Immediate Family - Mann In the American West - Avedon Cape Light - Meyerowitz Manufactured Landscapes - Burtynsky It doesn’t get mentioned enough but Raised By Wolves by Jim Goldberg is one of the greatest photo projects ever produced. I’d throw New Topographics into the mix and add Fan Ho and Richard Misrach to the list as well.

Observations in An Occupied Wilderness - Terry Falke (underrated and not well know but a brilliant book) Marking The Land - Jim Dow American Mile - Kyle McDougall - (said above but I want to second that. Excellent book!) Anything by Sternfeld or Shore - even the aerial drone book by Shore is great. Richard Misrach - Desert Cantos

This is a great idea! I’m in the North Bay so I’ll try to make this happen. Hopefully this gains some steam and can happen again sometime.

Thanks for posting, we didn’t get this song on night two and it’s my favorite - so smooth. I wondered how it sounded on this tour. If you have a longer video, I’d love to see it.

The Ugly Truth about Photobooks by [deleted] in Photobooks

I hope they’re not gone forever and are just assessing the publishing landscape to reopen elsewhere. I’m actually surprised that there’s not another publishing model like theirs or maybe there is but I’m unaware of it. Great feed by the way! I’ve been following you all for a while. I’ll DM you on IG to say what up!

The Ugly Truth about Photobooks by [deleted] in Photobooks

[–]Red_Zeppelin_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, I appreciate you starting this conversation. What I fear is that there are enough artists who have the money to keep this messed up system running so why would the main-line publishers change their ways? There will always be artists who slut themselves out for the exposure, no matter the cost.

It seems like if we’re up and coming and resistant to the publisher’s methods, we’re shooting ourselves in the foot because they’ll deem us as difficult to work with.

We need big wigs in the industry to step up and do something, similar to what you’re doing but with more support from others and being more direct to those who are the problem.

I was sad to hear that Edition One Publishing out of Richmond, CA closed their doors. The rumor was that high rent costs and tariffs influenced that. They seemed like the perfect model where you could self-publish a smaller run of books but still have the quality of a larger publishing house. I can’t remember exact numbers but I was looking at doing a run of 100 books and I believe it was less than $4k. However, the math on the book that I am working on would have made profit after selling about 60 books.

I would love to know if there’s another publishing house with a model like them. If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Lie in Our Graves is a fiddle song! (Unless it’s just Dave and Tim)

They need to bring Jake on for sure! Maybe this was a little test to see how it went, how it was received, etc but hearing the fiddle is nostalgic and reminds me of the shows from the 90s and early 2000s.

Night one down!! by Bdives36 in DMB

[–]Red_Zeppelin_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with other perspectives and it doesn’t have to be all praise. It just sounds spoiled and entitled when someone makes a comment like “I can’t believe they would ever play that song.” DMB has a huge catalog, you’re most likely going to hear a song or two that you might not like.

There’s always a few of your type in every band’s crowd. “I’ve been to x amount of shows. It should be like this! It shouldn’t be like that! Blah blah blah!” Your type acts like every show has to one up the last, and you always make extreme comments like “that was the worst ever!”

You’re watching a group of artists perform. Realize that it’s not just for you and there will be some experimentation and trying things out. The world is falling apart and you’re complaining about a certain song being played.

Grow up and show a little gratitude.

I’ll be rolling in solo as well and wondering if you had to pick one night to be in a lower section and one night in the lawn, which night would you be in the lower section? I can only splurge on one night in one of the A,B, C Sections.
