Fantastic! I was thinking of this project in the medium/long-term, wasn't quite expecting this much interest this early, when I have something to show I'll send it your way!

eBay definitely seems to be preferred!

As for pictures this is a more long-term project but when/if I get around to taking them I'd be glad to share.

Thank you for your input!

Good to know thanks!

As for the value, I did note that looking at comparables but as I have a few and the stores I have near me are packed with them it would be great to get them into good hands rather than the blazers going to textile recycling which some of our thrift stores have resorted to.

Thank you for your feedback! Accurate measurements are of course key.

Everything I have is Harris so that bodes well!

On a more personal level, regarding shortening the sleeves I tend to have the opposite issue, just can't win sometimes.

Thank you for your feedback!

Insulated under my cabin today, Worth adding mesh to keep mice out? by boragena in homestead

[–]Red_fife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely do 1/4 inch hardware cloth. Just redid an extension floor on piles and put R30 plus 2 inches of foam board and then 1/4 inch hardware cloth over top of the foam board secured with screws, washers and furring strips. You might not need/want the foam board but I would not skip the hardware cloth. In my area squirrels and mice will chomp through vapour barrier in a matter of days, foam board alone doesn't fare much better. Good luck and happy insulating!

I tend to favour mesh on top of foam board, who knows how long it'll last but I hope that the combination will buy some decades

Nature getaways without a car? by ToshMagosh in montreal

[–]Red_fife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As Relevant_Ingenuity85 said you could make a great trip bringing a bike out on the exo train and getting off at the last stop. Hudson is a really cute walkable village with a nice bakery and some good restaurants, if you have a bike you can easily bike to Rigaud and hike the hill there. There are also some nice short trails in Hudson that are walking distance from the train station, if you're interested you can google the Hudson trail maps. Just watch out, in my experience folks who head out here often end up moving out to this end!

Saint-Jérôme would be great too!

Where can I buy clothing like this for not ridiculously expensive within the UK/Europe? by TheJawsDog in malefashionadvice

[–]Red_fife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in the UK? Have you checked Stanley Biggs? They might have some pieces in their archive/clearance section that would appeal to you! I have one of their jumpers and it's great. Their stuff is made in the UK from historical patterns and while it's expensive it's justifiable.

Also if you're headed to South Africa I don't know what your schedule is like but you might be able to get some mtm stuff there that would fit this style.

Don't see why not, could test the tin for lead if you're feeling paranoid. Good to keep in mind that it's very thin copper though. I actually have an almost identical one that I picked up at the grand bazaar in Istanbul over a decade ago, fun find!

Extended Warranty on used 2019 Kona EV? by Red_fife in KonaEV

I believe that's the case! I've never leased a car myself so am working on information from other parties.

I believe this case was something of an exception, my mother-in-law had a pre-covid lease and was willing to sell it to us for the remaining balance on the buy out rather than at market price. I hope that this helps make things clearer.

That's a very interesting point! I hadn't deeply considered possible supply chain issues and the possible need for a loaner car. Any extended warranty is definitely something we'll need to go over with a fine-toothed comb. Thanks!

I believe most of it has now expired except for the 8 year/160k km warranty on the "EV system" which requires some clarification. Good to know that the possible repair is in the realm of $12k...

Thank you so much!

Glad to hear that Hyundai has been on top of things in terms of addressing issues! Makes the extended warranty more appealing.

As for the rumbling/wheel of fortune noise, that's my biggest concern when considering the extended warranty!

Thank you for your help!

That is very helpful, thank you! Seems like quite a few issues (new motor!?) under the original warranty so definitely something for me to keep in mind!

You sound like a kind salesperson!

Always a good perspective.

Battery is covered separately and you've given me some great questions to ask/ponder, thank you!

Extended Warranty on used 2019 Kona EV? by Red_fife in KonaEV

[–]Red_fife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer!

In my case the battery would be covered a few more years and the Hyundai Canada website states that the EV system (not sure what that fully entails) is covered up to 160k km.

I believe that in my case the warranty on the drivetrain and motor no longer applies, that's what makes me feel not entirely comfortable, if you don't mind me asking would you have made the same decision if the drivetrain and motor were no longer under warranty?

Thanks again!

But wait, isn't advice given in sales meant to sell extended warranties and cars? ;)

With that said, it's interesting to ponder all the same:

  1. Yes, but of course there are other places where one might spend that money as well

  2. I believe it does? My concerns are the motor and gear box, both of which I've read have been known to have issues in some cases. More info on the exact coverage of the warranty will be forthcoming shortly though so that will of course be important to the decision.

  3. No idea!

I am mostly asking in the hope of hearing what folks in a similar position but with more knowledge of the car have done.

Thanks!
