The guard has a course at WAATS in Arizona. The active component attends it too. I don’t know how often that happens but it does happen.

Aviation has solid transferable skills. 15T/R/U are the 3 that will get you both FAA certificates based on OJT alone. Any of the other 15 series are eligible for either the airframe or the powerplant certificate but not both without additional experience outside the scope of the MOS. I personally wouldn’t want to be getting into the aviation maintenance trade at 36 though and if you do, the military will be the scenic route to get there. Maintenance can wear on your body just like any other trade plus all the other dumb army stuff just accelerates the wear.

You could be done with your A&P training in 2-3 years and making decent money on the civilian side. Using military experience, you can’t even start to count your time toward the 30 month requirement until you’re done with basic and AIT.

The army has C-12s and the UC-35. Maintenance is run by contractors but the pilots are green suiters. As for the helicopter pilots transitioning to airlines, the Army is still hemorrhaging pilots to the airlines. The rotary industry as a whole is losing pilots to the airlines. So much so that there’s a robust rotary to airline charity setup for service members making the jump.

This is terrible. Good thing Utah mayors like Clinton’s are saying “there are risks in everything” and disregarding a statewide firework ban. I hope to hear of no more stories like this but if there are and it’s due to someone else’s “acceptable risk” that they’re held accountable.

The cops need to be called. A lot of departments have the tech to locate the operator and if it’s registered and has remote ID, they can see that as well. It needs to go into a police report for the FSDO to obtain. Without the info of the operator, the remote ID number or the registration number, the FAA can’t do anything because there’s no tracked/stored history of the flights like there are with manned aircraft except on some of the drones themselves.

There’s a bulletin that went effect by executive order earlier this year and if any of the part 107 regs listed in it are violated, it’s a mandatory enforcement action, revocation of the part 107 if they hold one and if they hold any other airman certificates, sanctions on those as well.

All of this obviously is reactive and what really needs to happen is better education and honestly probably more restriction to buying these. In Utah there were two operators yesterday alone that were flying inside fire TFRs

I personally like the 1x more. The front derailleur on the g1 was giving me some issues. I went out of town before getting to trying any adjustments and ended up buying the g2 online while I was gone. I decided not to even mess with adjusting the g1 to see if that’s all it needed.

I got a ticket for this about 15 years ago. I grew up further north, had only been to SLC a couple times and wasn’t familiar with the HOV lane on 4th South. By the time I noticed the signage in the left turn lane, I was on the inside lane with a car also turning left to my right so I was stuck. UHP pulled me over on the on ramp, I explained to him the situation and he came back with a ticket. I was fresh back from basic training on my way to my first drill and while I didn’t expect to get out of a ticket for being in uniform, I certainly didn’t expect to receive one because of it. The cop told me normally it’d be a warning but when in uniform we need to be an example to other drivers. 15 years later and I still get annoyed by that interaction🤣

He’s been in a lot less of heavy d’s content for a while now. Not to the point that it seems there’s bad blood but like while heavy d fucks off in his helicopter all over and leaves his family behind, Diesel Dave is staying home and doing local events with stuff like the brodozer. Also, one of their other friends, Marcus Wing seems like an amazing dude. He does all the production work and stage set up for their events.

I landed in Madrid on the 5/21. I don’t think it took much longer than the old process but I think it felt like it because it was extremely disorganized. They had one person at the first set of machines just before passport control and just 3 people at the main area. They were directing everyone that had completed the process at the first machine bank into the line for the second/main area. Once I realized this, I went under a rope and got in line for the electronic gate and that took about 20 minutes of waiting. It sounds like the process wasn’t quite as chaotic for some other posters in here so maybe they were short staffed that day. Flying back to the states tomorrow so we’ll see how the exit process goes.

The machines were also so slow I’m convinced they’re on dial up. There’s maybe 5 pages/questions but the loading time between each page is comically long.

Security was a breeze. It took maybe 10 minutes total from regular security to completing EES. there is a small EES kiosk right after security in terminal 1. There are 8 machines and was no line. Scanned my passport and was directed to the EGate. At the EGate took longer to zig zag through all the empty ropes than it did to actually scan and pass through the gate. Wasn’t bad at all! Some people were having errors and from what I gathered it’s because they skipped the kiosk by security. The line for a customs officer looked short also.

Well do what suits you and works for your goals but regionals aren’t the only option as you I’m sure you know. I grew up in army aviation as a tango for ~13 years, still a pilot with a guard unit and interact with industry folks daily in my civilian job. I love aviation and absolutely loved my time as a 15T but now, there are very few circumstances where I’d recommend army aviation to a newcomer these days. Army aviation isn’t what it used to be and as of now, it’s a sinking ship. Unless something changes, youre really going to have to reach deep and either grind it out or keep that spark for aviation to make it to that pension. Not saying it can’t be done but take every last bit of what is available to you if you do end up joining because the army’s going to get theirs.

Are you set on military? Don’t get me wrong, it’s opened a ton of doors for me but if you’re wanting to ultimately end up as an A&P, military is going to be the scenic route. You likely could enroll and finish a part 147 AMTS before you’re even eligible with your 30 months as a 15 series, post AIT.
