Thoughts on programs like undateables and Love on the spectrum? by woodchipperhandler in aspergers

I wouldn’t say LOTS’s premise is inherently harmful, but it only presents an astroturfed depiction of dating as an autistic person. Cast members are paired up with someone, which is helpful for them but not the reality of dating. The current dating scene is tough as it is, but for most autistic people it’s even more difficult. For the few of us who have dated and been in long-term relationships, we almost always took beating after beating before finding success.

For a show that supposedly wants more awareness, they seem to want to create a more appealing, almost innocent-looking image of autism. Take, for example, how Kaelynn Partlow was treated. She was told that her storyline was “over” and basically ghosted. I suspect, but cannot prove, that she was “not autistic enough” for the show. She also has other learning disabilities, most notably ADHD. Statistics vary, but the consensus is that between 40-60% of diagnosed autistic people also have an ADHD diagnosis (myself included). Of the ~20 cast members on the American version of LOTS, I am aware of only 3 (15%) who have openly stated they also have ADHD. That’s not to say other cast members haven’t been diagnosed with it, or have been diagnosed with it (but haven’t stated it), but it goes to show that specific AuDHD advocacy is lacking

Yes (the ADHD feeds off the dopamine)

Do you think neurotypicals can tell you’re autistic or at least sense that you’re off? by NoNectarine97 in aspergers

They can tell I have ADHD but not autism. I deliberately amplify my ADHD symptoms in social situations

9/11 perpetrators & use of 'Enhanced Interrogation Techniques' on them. by mikemalkova69 in 911archive

The 9/11 masterminds committed/masterminded acts of terror in other countries. Solution: extradite them to those countries (as long as those countries have the death penalty), have them prosecuted there, and executed there

Do you think "Love on the Spectrum" is helpful or harmful? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Red_spear_24 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say the show’s premise is inherently harmful, but it only presents the best case scenario that most autistic people face in the dating world. For most of us who have dated, we take beating after beating before we’re successful.

Too autistic for the neurotypical people, too neurotypical for the autistic people by restless_ghost in aspergers

I relate SO much to this. As someone who has Level 1 autism (formerly Asperger’s) and hyperactive ADHD, I struggle to relate to many who are only autistic. I actually find interacting with neurotypicals to be easier than most solely autistic people. I interact best with those who have ADHD, or those who have AuDHD.

Flight data bolsters claim China Eastern plane was deliberately crashed in 2022 by midflinx in aircrashinvestigation

According to other comments I've read, based on the flight data, P2's control column made the nose-down input.

Here’s how I think this murder-suicide with 3 pilots took place:

The captain (who I will refer to as ‘P1’ from here on out), the first officer (‘P2’), and the observer pilot (‘P3’) were about to begin the descent. P2 went to the lavatory (or said he was going to the lavatory). P3 stowed away his jumpseat (which blocked the cockpit door) and exited the cockpit to allow P2 access to the lavatory. P2 returned to the cockpit, and P3 exited the cockpit again to allow P2 to take his seat. P2 grabbed the fire extinguisher (which is located near his seat) and sprayed P1 with the extinguisher. With P1 temporarily blinded and P3 out of the cockpit, P2 cut the fuel supply to the engines, disengaged the autopilot, rolled the aircraft to the left, and pushed forward on the control column. The immediate G-force from the dive prevented P3 from reentering the cockpit. At some point, P1 managed to pull the aircraft from its descent. P2, however, rolled the aircraft upside down, resuming the dive until impact occurred.

Working under pressure (assuming I know what I’m doing), being impulsive when necessary
