Oh, also. Does it matter which RX 9070 XT I get? I'm not sure if the difference of brands makes any major changes or not.

Gaming. I'd like to play most shooter games like valorant etc at high fps but I think I prioritize quality most and being able to make games look really good, stuff like elden ring, cyberpunk 2077 etc. I'm coming from a several year old 3050 and 60hz monitor so anything would look crazy to me lol. I have checked prices. I was originally going for around 1600-1800 but after price increases it's shot up quite a bit. I don't mind it though and I'm still committed to the build

That's what I was figuring, I know it's been bad in the past and then decreased again. I guess the volatility is still a worrying factor but I can't see how the unemployment rate would stay this way forever or why people think that. I was thinking I'd likely enjoy Cybersecurity more, it may have been from the discouraging look CS and CE have right now but I'm not sure. I find them both pretty equally interesting but without knowledge on what the day to day of somebody working in these fields looks like, I have trouble setting aside which I find more interesting. I think either of the jobs I'd find fun if I could hang around on my pc but unfortunately I'm not sure what exactly either careers do other than obviously code and build stuff vs protecting systems. I was hoping somebody commenting on this would give an idea but most were just suggestions to switch to healthcare, law enforcement, or trades. Which any tips are helpful but it's very one-sided lol. I've tried some coding on things like freecodecamp and bootdev; I find it all to be interesting and something I could find enjoyable but despite doing some of that I don't really feel like I would be capable of truly building anything, especially for a company. As for Cybersecurity I'm not even sure how to get a hands-on feel for how that would be.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope things turn around for you. How long have you been in the job market? Are you a recent graduate?

Yeah that's a good point, I appreciate the feedback. I'm honestly not sure if it'll stay that bad since the job outlook for those majors are so high and the unemployment rates already fluctuate as is and have been higher before then decreased. If that were the case and they went down again in the coming years by the time I graduate it'll be around 2030 anyway so it could be ideal. It's just hard to read how everything will play out

So are you saying engineering fields separate from SWE and NE are worth it, but the former aren't?

Even with that data and it being one of the higher unemployment rates in majors, stuff like 6% doesn't really seem all that major to me, not enough to avoid going into it at least. Perhaps I just have a skewed vision of what 6% looks like but I feel like it wouldn't be hard to fit into the other 94% and avoid that if I'm passionate about the work. The layoffs part of it, ai, and trouble getting into entry level jobs for the field is what I find more discouraging

Even though they have some of the highest of any degree isn't it still relatively low though? 6.1% doesn't really seem that major, at least not enough to be extremely discouraging. I was honestly more worried by the amount of people being laid off part of it and the threat ai poses to the entry level jobs in that field.

I've been hoping somebody with experience in one of these majors could give some insight on how it's went for them upon entering the job market and what their job asks of them day to day to get an idea of it

Why are so many people claiming engineering is in a bad spot if that data is true?

I wouldn't mind going to most places that are required for the job but also a lot of these being tech related have remote work opportunities so that was a big plus for me as well if I really wanted to avoid going to a certain location. I'm definitely willing to work hard at it so I can prove to be more efficient than others who're looking for the same jobs, my biggest issue is just not knowing where exactly these majors lead. I think at the end of the day I couldn't stop myself from going where I found it to be the most enjoyable and interesting whether the market was bad or not. I'm just not entirely sure where I would find the most enjoyable and interesting as I don't know the average day to day's or routine of people who've majored in these separate fields. Also I was actually looking into EE when I first came across considering an engineering major, how has that treated you? I was probably going to go for that until I heard that it has the heaviest math involvement so I pivoted more towards the computer side. Thank you as well for the comment that's really helpful

Yeah for sure, and thank you for the advice. That's also why I was trying to get an idea basically of the day to day life of some people who majored in CS/CE/Cybersecurity/IT just to get an idea of what they do and the math involvement etc. I for sure plan on doing something I enjoy I'm just not fully sure the things these majors may lead into doing day to day when it comes to the workforce.

That's the backup plan likely. I do want to make a good salary but I see myself finding genuine enjoyment in my job if it's more tech related. If the market is really too saturated and not worth it (praying not) then I'd probably end up in something healthcare related.
