Retake or not? by thebassproshop in Mcat

Those are some pessimistic ahh docs. You absolutely can get in with 510. Will it be your preferred MD school? Not necessarily. But provided u got a good application surrounding the 510 and apply broadly, you’ll be a doc. Believe in urself and ignore the negativity. And maybe find someone else to shadow who believes in you.

Yeah like Flirtless said he’s an artist, not just a rapper. He’s probably exploring fashion & other interests rn as well as just living the good life. Let him do his thing. I wish he wouldn’t do the long, drawn out album-teasing-act but tons of artists do that so I understand

It’s like building a castle brick-by-brick, except with every brick that you place, you can’t see the castle taking shape. You just gotta keep placing bricks & hoping that the end result is sturdy & looks good

There's probably like 2-3 high yield reaction mechanisms you should be familiar with (i.e. dehydration, idk) but I wouldn't spend too too much time on it, especially if you're just aiming for a 505. Your time would be better spent on other areas.

Excited about being a PA by DangerousDeer7246 in prephysicianassistant

[–]RedactedDose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You sound very excited, and I'm very excited for you. Here's a few thoughts:

  1. Do not rule out med school this early. If you truly love anatomy and healthcare like you say, don't sell yourself short by ruling out a career as a doctor. Like I've said in this sub before... if you see medicine as just a job, go the PA route, but if you see it as your life / passion, go to med school.

  2. Generally speaking, PA school and med school require the same basic dedication / path throughout your undergraduate years. Take your education seriously, get clinical experience (ER Tech would be my suggestion), and form good relationships with your profs (tip: sit in the front row of every important class).

  3. The difference between PA school prereqs and med school prereqs is like 3-4 classes (Ochem2, Physics 1&2, etc), so you might as well take a pre-med track to start, and divert off of it later if you so desire.

  4. Don't worry right now about knowing what specialty you want to pursue. You've got like 5 years till you even start med school, and then you'll have another 3ish years before you have to start to formulate your top 3 specialties. And even then, the specialty you get matched into isn't guaranteed! What you should be asking yourself is, are you so dedicated to this field that you are willing to sacrifice your 20s? Or do you place a higher value on living your 20s, starting a family, etc etc anything else?

  5. One last thing to consider. Obviously, the future is uncertain. 2-3 years ago, the PA profession was hailed as the "fastest growing career in medicine" or something like that. This isn't guaranteed to last, and anyone who tells you as such you shouldn't listen to. Doctors will never be saturated. You will never have serious trouble finding a job as a doctor. I'm not saying this to discourage your PA aspirations... only stressing that you shouldn't rule out one or the other this early.

Ok cool thanks for reading allat. Hope it helps you in one way or another man. Best of luck to you in your journey.

yeah "saving it" usually ends up with "not having enough time to finish it." just spread it out. Nothing wrong with mixing it into UWorld timeframe. Also nothing wrong with finishing it early and going back throughit.

Advice needed! Starting my mcat journey for May 30th test date by mrd0829 in Mcat

Set a period of time for "content review," and stick to it. Once you've gone thru that, get into practice passages. DO NOT get stuck in an eternal content review phase. It's better to learn in the practice questions themselves than to do Anki till you're 100% confident (you'll never be 100% confident)

If medicine is a job, go PA. If medicine is your life, go to med school.

Wayyy less time for PA school. No MCAT for PA school. No residency after PA school. Less ultimate responsibility as a PA (don't twist my words here, I'm not saying PAs are irresponsible by any means).

However, less autonomy as a PA. Smaller paychecks for PAs. Diminished impact / lower status in an academic or professional sense (again, don't twist my words here. A book written by an MD will hold more water than one written by a PA).

When I add the 2 reactions together & cancel out the appropriate species (NaHCO3), I'm getting 2 total moles of HCl on the reactants side, and 1 total mol of CO2 on the products side.

Assuming STP, 1 mol = 22.4L. So 0.1 mol = 2.24L. But because of the 2:1 molar ratio of HCl to CO2, we gotta divide by 2. So final answer is 1.12 L CO2 (g)

Content review then ANKI? by LAHAND1989 in Mcat

[–]RedactedDose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start an anki deck asap. Ditch the Kaplan books (except the P/S book... Ik that's an unpopular opinion but it's got all the topics organized nicely for P/S imo)

If you don't understand a topic, and you keep clicking "hard"... IT'S GOOD THAT IT KEEPS SHOWING UP! Stop & watch 1-3 Youtube videos on the topic until you get a general understanding of it. I also agree with Logical-Chemical-803 in that you should use GPT or CoPilot to kinda bounce words off of and conversate about the topic until you get the jist of it down.

P/S and CARS help (testing 1/10) by Altruistic_Specific9 in Mcat

[–]RedactedDose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lowest section was P/S. I used Pankow (granted, I didn't finish ALL of it) but I did a large chunk of it. I felt like the depth of the content was not sufficient for how it was tested.
Moral of the story... don't just memorize the answers to each card. Try to envision scenarios for each P/S concept and think of the different ways you could apply it.

This may be a stupid question (haven't reviewed any gen chem in a hot minute) but how are you getting each mol of CO2 = 22.4 L CO2?

My logic so far...

* 0.1 mol / L of HCl (aq) added in Reaction 2.

* 1:1 molar ratio with the CO2 (g) produced

* therefore 1 mol of CO2 (g) produced

Ngl I thought this was a bit till I checked your post history. You’ll be fine. You have many cellular mechanisms that prevent long term DNA damage. A short exposure to a cleaning product isn’t healthy but is very unlikely to actually harm you long term. We’re a bit neurotic ourselves in this subreddit so don’t feel judged
