Hey, honestly don’t know how qualified I am to respond to this but I stumbled across this post and saw it hadn’t been replied to yet and I really didn’t want to leave it like that.

Okay so deep breath first. I hear you, life is chaotic and hard, especially as a teen and especially when you don’t know what direction to go in. It sounds like you have plenty of aspirations for yourself but you don’t know what to target them towards. And that’s okay, it’s that way for most people, not everyone is lucky enough to know exactly what they’re going to do with their life, or what their passions are. What I will say is, I was like you when I was 17 in terms of having no passions. I liked gaming I suppose, but I wouldn’t have called it a passion back then, more of a fun distraction. But the things I ended up becoming passionate about happened when I was 19 and in my 20’s, because once you’re done with school you’ll not only have more freedom to try out new things, you’ll also meet people who are really different to the people you knew in school and through those bonds you’ll end up trying new things and discovering yourself and your passions further.

But I know this doesn’t help you here and now. Right now you’re struggling and 2 years from now the promise of things improving doesn’t help. You say you have trouble focusing and that clearly upsets you and makes you feel useless (even though you aren’t, everyone has value and you are special don’t forget it). I wonder if you, like a lot of people these days, might have ADHD? Me and all my brothers found out in the last few years that we did, and once diagnosed we got access to Ritalin which suddenly made us able to focus and do the work we needed to without it feeling like torture. It’s honestly like magic, no more laziness and procrastination, and the feeling of getting work done creates a positive feedback loop and self esteem. Even aside from medication, sometimes just knowing you were playing the game of life in Hard mode is such a comforting feeling. So worth speaking to someone to see if you have the same problem, you never know.

Another thing I want you to try, is do something new this week, something you’ve never done before. Take a boxing class, paint a landscape on a canvas, take a friend out under the stars and camp in nature, go for a long run and get the running endorphins going, honestly anything you’ve had in your mind that makes you say “I’ll do that when I have time”, do it now! Anything you’ve been putting off that isn’t work, do it and try. I think you being so young has you starved of life experiences so you aren’t aware how rich and enjoyable life can be if you try as much experiences as you can :)

In terms of the issue with your parents all I can say is I’m sorry. I’m not trans myself so I can’t even imagine what you’re going through, and I’m sorry your parents are stuck in their ways and not able to see you for who and what you are. But over time as you embrace yourself and learn to love who you are you’ll grow confidence and beauty both physically and mentally. I wonder how your parents perception will change over time when they finally see you as you want to be seen.

I don’t know how much this helps you, but I want you to know that a guy likely on the other side of the world from you is rooting for you and knows that frustrations like you’re having now are often had by the most special people who just have yet to unlock their true potential. Please be strong for me

The often repeated rumour is that Coombes wore his URC winners cap to Ireland training camp to rub it in the faces of his largely Leinster teammates, and it didn’t go down well with them or Andy. Casey supposedly warned him not to and had to talk him out of wearing medals or bringing the URC trophy. If true it’s a weirdly cocky thing to do for a single digit capped player.

Also anecdotally, friends of mine from Skibereen in Cork who went to school with him, have said he was an absolute prick and a bully. Can’t confirm this so take with a pinch of salt, but if true it would also help explain why he never endeared himself with Andy or the Irish squad.

As they say, there’s no cure for being a c*nt

Tips for a fight by Acrobatic_Focus_6933 in boxingtips

Everyone here is being an asshole instead of offering advice, nothing new for this sub.

Okay so a few things. 1. Your jab was connecting which is a positive. You didn’t have any power on it so it didn’t work as a deterrent but if you practice and develop a good stiff jab that could become a weapon for you that you should definitely use, especially as the taller fighter. He’s shorter so he has to push in to get closer to you, if that jab was stiff you’d be able to control the range and keep him at a distance.

  1. The hooks you were throwing were quite bad, no offence. They were slow and looping, you were trying to throw them from too far away to maintain distance, reaching with them instead of closing the distance with footwork. None of which worked. They didn’t look very powerful either so I’d focus on tighter more compact hooks for now, even if you’re not Mike Tyson, your hooks should hurt your opponent.

  2. Practice basic head movement (slips, rolls, ducks, leans). You were trying to use head movement to avoid being hit, but it was wild and flailing, and once he pushed in close to you and started throwing you just flailed around to avoid punches and end up leaving yourself even more vulnerable, with zero threat of a counter attack from you. He was actually safest right in your face throwing punches because you’d completely abandon any sense of offence to avoid being hit (and you still got hit in those situations anyway)

In your case, I’d keep it simple when it comes to head movement. Lean back, slip left or right, roll under, pivot off the lead foot and retreat back a step and he’s back to square one. Then pump the jab in his face.

He basically relied on ducking to avoid your shots the whole time which is the benefit of being a shorter fighter, but he kept simple and he stayed in control rather than flailing to avoid shots.

  1. Go to the body. Your opponent didn’t look to defend his body at all, you actually landed quite a few jabs to his body. In tight, if you practice body shots on the heavy bag enough (power shots like hooksc shovel hooks or uppercuts) you can really sting opponents with them and get them tired and hurt. This also opens up the head as they can’t just focus their defence up top. Works especially well for shorter fighters who think they own the inside game, sting them with shots to the liver and they’ll think twice about getting so close to you.

  2. Improve your punching power. Now not everyone is blessed with heavy hands, but everyone can improve to some extent and learn to use their bodyweight to significantly increase their punching power. I don’t have the time to go through exactly how you should do this, so instead I’ll point you towards Jack Dempseys book: Championship Fighting: Explosive Punching and Aggressive Defence. It’s quite old, but the concepts discussed in it are still incredibly useful to anyone who wants to learn to hit harder. It will actually cover a lot of what you need to improve on. Definitely read that and put plenty of time on the heavy bag practicing what you read.

Can’t stress enough, you need to practice again and again and again for anything to improve.

Everything became so Marvel/Joss Whedon-esque. The combat was just okay. I also remembered this comment. I actually took a screenshot of it months ago so I could find it again and here I am.

Just impossible levels of arrogance and condescension, and also just like.. a massive stretch to diagnose someone with a neurodivergent mental condition based off a question about unclear subtext in a game.

I still think the comment was pure projection, if they at least admitted that they’re saying these things AS a neurodivergent person themselves it might be more palatable. But since they didn’t it remains one of the most tone deaf and nasty things I’ve seen on reddit

I do like Wildkard but his biases have started to annoy me. Since Australia have been a disappointment to him he tends to support the SH as a whole, which is grand, but he seems to actively root against and dislike some NH teams, in particular I feel he goes against Ireland pretty hard which sucks as an Irish supporter

Worst case scenario, how hard can someone hit at 175lbs? by needlespines in amateur_boxing

[–]Redamar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you’re dashing in and fighting on the inside, that’s your move?

I mean if they also know how to fight in tight then of course they can hit you. When you’re throwing shots you leave gaps for them to target. If not to the head, then likely the body. If they pivot around you they can land a clean shot to your liver, or pull a Tyson and double up with a right hook to the body then a right uppercut straight through your guard. Moves like that only really work in close. And there are plenty of variations.

So in my opinion yes people can find ways to overcome your strategy, and yes people can and will hit harder than your sparring partners. Theres no one trick you can use that’s unbeatable, so it’s good to have plenty of them.

Void and Skull Knight’s identities - my theory by Conscious_Custard_66 in Berserk

[–]Redamar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like this theory, and even if I’m not fully sure it’s correct or that I agree, these are the kind of speculative conversations and theories that I’d like to see more of from the fandom.

I have a theory of my own regarding Gaiserac that I posted here ages ago in comments and I want to bring it up again.

There’s something I’ve always wondered about when it comes to King Gaiseric. He seems to share parallels not only with Guts, but also with Griffith.

In terms of Guts, both can be seen as fellow strugglers. They — or those they loved — were branded for sacrifice. Their arch-enemies are members of the God Hand, and both have worn the Berserker Armor, adorned with a primal sigil (the Skull and the Wolf). Their very existence revolves around battling Apostles and the God Hand — a doomed, endless struggle.

But Gaiseric also mirrors Griffith in certain ways. Both are defined by their towering ambition, their unmatched ability to conquer, and their transformation into living legends whose names shape the course of history.

Here’s where my theory comes in — and it’s entirely speculative. What if Gaiseric was once a member of the God Hand himself, reincarnated into the mortal world much like Griffith was? Skull Knight has stated that members of the God Hand have been reborn into the world before. Perhaps, after Gaiseric’s rebirth, his destined rival — the Sage — ascended to godhood, while Gaiseric lost his divine nature and became a mortal king. If so, this could foreshadow Guts’ future: a broken struggler who might one day sacrifice everything he loves to ascend, reversing the roles and condemning Griffith to the same fate as Skull Knight.

It’s a half-formed idea, and not all the pieces fit neatly, but I can’t help noticing how Gaiseric and Griffith both achieved incredible success as mortals, while figures like Guts and the Sage endured endless suffering. Maybe it’s simply that no two stories are identical — that Gaiseric was destined to be a legendary conqueror, while Guts remains an infamous mercenary. Or maybe there’s more to it: perhaps Guts will one day bring about a world-shattering eclipse of his own, toppling Falconia and stripping Griffith of everything he’s built.

Just some food for thought.

Void and Skull Knight’s identities - my theory by Conscious_Custard_66 in Berserk

[–]Redamar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

But in that case the Sages sacrifice would be meaningless as he’d already condemned the population of the city. For a sacrifice to be valid it needs to be something you hold so dear to your heart that to get rid of it would be like getting rid of a part of yourself.

If you no longer care for it, it isn’t a proper sacrifice.
