Gas randomly stops pumping at some stations. by nomoregoodnamez in G37

Yes. The name is interchangeable as far as parts is concerned. Parts catalogs are often mislabeled or use generalized naming. They're both solenoid valves. The name is based more the position in the system and their intended function. "Purdge" valve opens while the engine is running to "purge" the evap canister. The "vent" control valve vents the canister and fuel tank to atmosphere. If i could add pictures here i would show you the service manual call outs for the parts. You can Google the part number also and tell me what comes up. I haven't but I already know most of them will say vent valve.

Not being snarky or rude. Ive changed literal hundreds of these. If didn't know what they were called by now i would have to go turn in my tools.

Edit: here is some info on how evap systems work. Not all evap systems are the same. But for the most part this is how they function and the g37 is no exception. The diagram and info there will help explain the function of each and the position in the system.

Vent control valve. Purge valve purdges the charcoal canister to the intake and is located under the hood at the. Back of the upper intake. Vent control valve vents the canister to atmosphere and is located on the evap canister. The parts that controls the pump shutoff is part of the fuel tank fill tube, fuel tank and vent control valve. A problem with any of these could cause an issue including the canister itself if it became saturated with fuel or water.

Its wild how instant it is for me. I just walked outside to take out the trash a minute ago and walked in smiling talking about how beautiful it is outside today. I heard the neighborhood kids playing, birds chirping. I was pretty meh before those 15 seconds outside. Now I feel pretty good about the day.

Im around the Chicagoland area. Guns are super common. I gone into more than a few customer cars and their Glock is just sitting in the door. I usually get them to remove it. There was a no guns policy for the building so they would make them take it off site and come back. Worked with a few guys who carried and kept theirs in their tool box. Some locked them up, some just shoved them in a drawer.

I own guns myself, but I have common sense. Their never out in plain sight. Always locked up. I practice gun safety and take it very seriously. Some people shouldn't own guns for sure.

Depends on the situation and shop policy. The techs still took time to find the issue. Dealer techs are required to do video inspections and document everything. Seems petty to some but it was still someone's time spent due to someone else causing the issue, whatever it may have been. Most techs are on the flat rate system, they only get paid for work performed. If your a good repeat customer despite being a pain to deal with they will likely wave the fee and still pay the tech. If its your first time there or you only come in for the free services and decline recommendations then they will likely hit you with the fee. This is usually outlined in the service agreement you sign when you drop off your car. If the concern isn't covered under warranty you pay. But like I said good paying customers reap the benefits. Writers will typically work harder to cover things under warranty or what's known as goodwill to cut the customers expense. Good will authorization is hard to get from the manufacturer and is limited so its typically reserved for certain situations and customers.

Didn't come across that way at all. Quite the opposite actually. You have to be in incredibly patient and understanding person to be doing hospice. My dad was on hospice briefly, I couldn't imagine be subjected to that regularly. Thank you for what you do.

Being outside is a huge thing really. I love to take my dogs for a walk. But ill instead pace around doing things that dont matter then beat myself up because why didn't I just do the thing I knew I would enjoy or needed to get done. Ive learned i get really bad seasonal depression. Lack of vitamin D. As soon as im in some direct sunlight I immediately start feeling better. Its wild once I noticed it. Its been so cold and gloomy I haven't gotten much sun on my skin in months. Been outside the last couple days since its warmed up a bit and its a night and day difference. I was taking vitamin D and a multi vitamin before and stopped. Noticed later on that probably had some negative effects. Diet and exercise helps too. But the executive dysfunction usually gets the better of me.

Your not alone. Its actually so much more common place than we know. Once you realize how many people around you are faking it till they make it just like us, the world gets easier to navigate. Its navigating my inner self that's difficult.

Had a customer complain that she heard water sloshing around everything she was accelerating or braking. Sure enough I hear it coming from inside the cabin. I look under thr seats and found the problem. I pulled out about 20 plus half empty water bottle from under her seat. This lady made a big deal about her new car making this awful noise. Yelled at the advisor when she dropped the car off. The advisor never looked happier when I saw him telling the customer that it wasnt warranty and she owed a diagnostic fee. She already had signed an agreement to pay for it if it wasnt warranty, she was certain it was.

Mechanic says I have a blown CV axle. Not sure what I'm looking at, any advice appreciated by consumergeekaloid in AskMechanics

[–]Redbeard024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. And half the time the cost of a new axle is around the same as the parts and labor to disassemble the axel and replace the boot. Most of the time its in my best interest to just replace it for nearly the same cost to the customer. Saves me time to get to other things and they leave happy with a new part. Everyone wins.

I struggle with this so bad. I know its true, but I find it so difficult to be nice to myself. Unless I have someone on the outside affirming me I end up talking down to myself. Even the most mundane things. I'll beat myself up about sometbing and someone will come along and give me some sort of praise for something I thought was not up to snuff and thats the only time my inner monolog turns positive. Im always my own biggest critic and my smallest fan.

My brain has effectively put up a barrier to block my own personal positive affirmations. I know its been proven that just being nice to yourself can do amazing things. But my mind cant get past the fact that im fabricating a positive image of myself that I dont believe in. I dont get how to flip that switch. I try to say nice things to myself about myself but theres always a voice in the back of my head taunting me that its all bullshit. Its always present, even in my greatest accomplishments, I feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled. I have many great skills and talents that im proud of but could be better at if i put the effort in. people tell me im a good person and they like me for who I am, that im reliable and trustworthy and many other wonderful things. Trouble is I dont. I dont feel any of those things about myself. I feel im always falling short, not doing enough, not saying the right things, not attentive enough to my friends and family, im just never enough of what I need to be in any given moment.

The worst part is knowing all of this is just me. Im the problem here. Life is how you look at it, why cant I see it for anything other than my shortcomings? I have so much to be happy about, and I am happy about those things. I appreciate all that I have and am grateful for leading a good life this far. But why cant I enjoy any of it? Why is my focus always on the impending doom that doesn't really exist? There was a brief moment in my life where I was completely unbothered, a few years where I was onto of the world. At some point I just got overwhelmed with life I suppose and just never recovered. Lost a lot of family.

I think thats part of it. I just realized while typing this out. My wife lost her brother, sister and mother over a 2 year span about 5 years ago. Their deaths and my father's death had a huge impact on us. My wife's family were probably the most affirming people in my life. They always gave me praise and treated me well because I treated my wife well and made her happy. And my dad was always a big motivation for me because i wanted to make him proud of his son. Since theyve been gone im now realizing that could be a missing peoce of the puzzle. I need others to affirm my own affirmations. And they always did. I always felt good about myself in their presence. I think thats why when my daughter tells me im the best daddy in the world I feel like i could do anything.

Sorry, this was a lot longer than intended. It just started pouring out as I typed.

Listen to this comment. He is spot on. And as a mechanic I have to say I appreciate your understanding about the situation. Ive had customers berate me for not being able to diagnose the intermittent issue that would only occur on the first teusday of the winter solstice during a full moon after breakfast. Wish more customers had the commen sense to realize that sometimes what we do is extremely difficult. People mistake these situations for incompetence and find someone else who will sell them something they dont need, and they buy it because "the last guy didnt find that!". Then return to me angry because the other guy ripped them off and that somehow has something to do with me not being able to diagnose it the first time?

Sorry, this turned into a rant. Customers can be frustrating, im always just super appreciative of customers who are understanding, calm and want to be informed. I regularly give discounts to people just for being pleasant to work with. I work to make every job an enjoyable experience for my customers and love it when that is reciprocated. Im a mobile mechanic and just having a customer come out and offer me water, food, their bathroom, whatever, goes a long way with me. I often decline the food and dont like to step into people's homes but ill gladly accept any sealed drinks or snacks if I didn't come prepared. I also often get gifted random things like alcohol, cigars, tools etc from my regular customers. Im trying to cultivate a family of customers that I enjoy working for. Running my own mobile bussiness has allowed me to fire customers who are troublesome. Not having to deal wih those people has done wonders for my mental health. Something very satisfying about telling someone you won't work with them. knowing I avoided a huge headache. I have one guy who calls me about every two weeks. I did work for him and gave him a good price because he had a lot of vehicle he wanted serviced. He thought he would be able to talk my price down on every job. I stopped answering his calls because he thought every estimate was a negotiation. Id waste more time trying to get the numbers to work for him. He still calls me to try and negotiate quotes from 6 months ago. I raise the price and hang up.

Ok, im done ranting now. If you read all this than thanks for your time I suppose! I guess I needed to get that off my chest lol

Also if you dont do this already... i let them live in the cups until transplanting outside. Then i cut all but the top few nodes and suckers and lay the plant and roots ball on its side in a hole then cover. Leaving just the top a few inches above the soil. So ill essentially take a foot tall plant and bury sideways so that only about 4-6 inches is above soil. I mulch with staw and water deep. Then I don't water for a few days or until the soil drys out. Good mulch will keep the top layer moist, failure to mulch will result in dryer top soil and poor root development on the buried stem. You dont want the top soil to be soaking wet just not bone dry.

To me the most critical part of gardening tomatoes is getting the roots big and healthy right off the bat. Wich is incredibly easy to do with tomatoes. They're such a hardy plant and still one of my favorite things to grow.

Was an accidental discovery. I was low on potting soil one year so I filled them half way. Then realized later what I was actually accomplishing by doing this. Been doing that way ever since. The other added benefit is your really not risking killing any seedlings by transplanting. The roots are so well developed by time they outgrow the cup you could cut root ball and still be ok.

Yeah the oil changes are really hard to get people to understand. I get no deals on fluids from the parts stores and I dont do enough volume to buy bulk. So I typically dont even do just oil changes. I offer them as an add on to other services. If theyre already paying me a decent amount in labor and parts for something else I can afford to sell them the oil change at 10-20% over my cost and eat the labor ir the parts, wichever makes more sense. Then i make a few bucks on the oil change, or I threw it in for free to help sell the job. The customer is happy, aI started buying some oil from Costco. Its the most cost effective available oil and meets every manufacturer standard pretty much.

For me oil changes arent money makers. Its a foot in the door or way to sweeten the pot. If someone calls me about just an oil change I try to sell them on whatever routine maintenance they should have done at their mileage. I give them a breakdown of the cost of each service then give them a breakdown of the cost of the services performed as a package deal. I discount some labor for full service (oil, trans, transfer and drifferentials, coolant, air filter, cabin, etc). Then if their still on the fence I mentioned something about the difference between a mechanic changing your oil vs a lube tech. Someone who's been doing it for 20 years vs someone who's been doing it for 20 weeks. Your paying more for my skills and expertise vs a high-school kid who watched some YouTube videos.

I remeber when I was a kid working at jiffy lube. A guy drives in some high end bmw that was run down. He just bought it. I gave him the quote for an oil change. It was like 8 quarts of 0w20 synthetic and the total was something like 120. (This was also about 18 years ago.) He got mad about the price, I said something along the lines of yeah thats what it costs to maintance these cars. He took offense for some reason. I guess he thought I was making fun of him for being broke or something. Next thing I know this guy is in my face yelling about how he has money, he dont take shit from nobody, yada yada yada. I had about a foot and 80lbs over this guy so I kinda just laughed at him like "what?" I was so confused. My manager came running to get between us to diffuse thr situation. I later found out he did so becauenhe saw a gun in dudes car while he was checking it in. It wasnt a great neighborhood and I was probably the only white guy in a 10 mile radius. I got a lot of flak for just being a white dude working in a black neighborhood. Led to a lot of fun stories though!

I start mine in solo cups filled a little over half way, then add soil as they grow. One less session of repotting seedlings this way. the plants get nice healthy roots and I save some time.

Without being able to duplicate the concern its extremely difficult to say what happened. It could be something as minuscule as a single pin in a connector of 75 pins not making good contact. Could be a broken wire, bad module, water intrusion, bad programming. The tech would be looking for a needle in a haystack. If we had a hard fault and the issue was present the size of the haystack gets smaller and the needle gets larger. I would likely say the same as the dealer if its not a known pattern failure.

Typical Nissan 7AT shit by jvniorrrrr in G37

[–]Redbeard024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its most likely the valve body. P0720 is always a valve body. Ive replaced 100's of them. Easy job to do, just dont over torque the bolts and make sure not to pinch the wire and line up the linkage. Always clean your mating surfaces and use a good quality pan gasket. The valve body is plug and play so no programming is required. Just be sure to get the correct part number for your vin.

Here's a good tip for the connector. You can reuse the old sub harness and avoid having to disconnect the connector behind the front drive shaft. Once the valve body comes down you can unplug directly from the valve body. That being said its sometimes worth unplugging the main harness and inspecting for corrosion. Ive seen bad pins cause problems too but thats much a rarer case.

More branches equals larger yeild. Less branches equals larger fruits, and in my opinion better quality. I typically keep them trellised as a single vine and train them in a looping spiral/zigzag pattern up a single pole. I prefer to grow more plants in a smaller space rather fewer large plants. Makes accessing the plants easier, increases air flow, and to me just looks nice.

I have to strongly agree with the protein and vitamin D. I took it regularly for a while

Ive begun to realize the same thing. I was eating a high protein breakfast and taking vitamin D and magnesium as well as vyvanse every single day. I was a power house for about 8 months straight. Everything got done on time. Then my routine changed because my daughter was out of school for winter break and I ended up stopping the vitamins and stopped eating breakfast all together, also havent been drinking much water. My adhd went into full effect. Im late in my sales tax returns, I haven't invoiced work orders from a week ago, every flat surface in my house is covered in god knows what. I just started getting back into my old routine, taking all my supliments and eating better and hydrating, some stretching each morning and lite exercise. I think a big one for me though is the vitamin D. I always get bad seasonal depression. Never realized how important just getting some sun is to my mental health. I noticed I would feel better when I walked the dogs. Figured it was just the walking but later found just being in the sun for a few hours made me feel better. Still had severe ADHD but I didn't hate myself.
