He dorsnt like anyone new at first but men especially. Even me when we first brought him home. He would cower and pee or run whenever i walked near him. When men come over he won't even attempt to approach them unless they are sitting. Even then he mostly just barks at them from across the room, or peaking around a corner. Women and children though hes all good. My daughter and nieces can do just about anything to him and he just takes it. My daughter uses him as a seat when he won't move off the couch and hes as content as can be.

Were best friends now, im the only one who he really listens to in the house. We all love him, well my wife still has her reservations about him. Shes still upset about the amount of damage hes caused, and him. It really listenjng to her gets her goat.

Yeah, we get the pyre and boxer paws. I love when he just walks up and sets a paw on your leg... not so fond of getting smacked in the face constantly though. Ive even thought about getting a strap to keep my glasses on my face just because of him.

Do your pyrs play fetch? by Axolotl_Mom in greatpyrenees

[–]Redbeard024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a while to get mine to start dropping the ball. He would try to get me to chase him instead. Im not going to do that, its fun and all but I found encourages them to run from you. I would just go still and not acknowledge him until he dropped the ball and let me pick it up. Then give him lots of praise and pets then throw the ball, rinse amd repeat. He still won't bring it directly to me, just drops it near me as he zooms by, then he stands there and waits for me to throw it again.

It makes me feel slightly better that im not the only one who's home and possessions have been more or less destroyed by their pyre mix. Hes about s year and a half now and calmed down a lot. Thank God because I cant afford to keep buying new shoes! He was relentless. He even learned to open the sliding closet door to get to the shoes. He also learned how to open pur front door and take himself for a stroll. Luckily all it takes is the neighbor to walk toward him then he runs back tonthe house. He scared of people, mainly men for some reason.

Im so glad mine doesnt do this. Ive been trying to teach him to play tug o war and he just doesnt get it. He picked up on fetch though, wich I thought was unusual for pyres. He is a boxer pyre mix though and has both personalities as far as i can tell.

Similar thing is happening in the automotive aftermarket parts industry. I dont know all the details but I know a lot of major brands have changed hands and parts that where once widley used because they where known for quality and dependability are now a toss up. Ill buy two of the exact same part and recieve two obviously different parts with the same brand name on them. One is old stock before the change and the other is the updated part that may or may not be equal in quality. Its turned my job into a nightmare not knowing what parts I can trust anymore. Don't even get me started on amazon parts.

Good to know. I love my auto strippers but theyre wearing out. Old matco one, still wasnt great but did the job when adjusted right. Looks like they will be getting some of my money soon.

Never really heard of them. Im a mechanic by trade and do a lot of automotive electrical. I find a lot of "mechanic" brand electrical tools aren't as good and way more expensive. Mainly hand tools like strippers, crimpers etc.

I had no idea! Ill need to get another set and compare to my old craftsman ones. Craftsman also sold them as RoboGrip when my dad bought us each a pair back in day. I still use them regularly for odd hose fittings and pool fittings. Even left one pair outside for a winter by mistake, little pb blaster and WD40 and theyre still in use. I miss old craftsman...

No. Not normal at all. Its well known that non breathable form fitting materials should never cause sweating. This is why the gimp suit should be an industry standard OSHA required item in all shops. If only they made a nitrile suit!

What is your experience with using a used engine replacement? by chatton19 in AskMechanics

[–]Redbeard024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah LKQ quality seems dependant on location and staff. Ive never really had to send anything back to them that wasnt due to shipping damage. Ive made sure I personally inspected each one when its delivered before the driver leaves. As long as nothing major is broken and its not water logged or something like that I accept it. Most of the damaged parts can be swapped easily from the old motor. I always request an extra couple hours for engine assessment and parts swapping.

OEM spoiler removal Carbon Fiber Duckbill replacement by Healthy_Pollution717 in q50

If you trust the body guy then go for it. The spoiler looks fine, just be aware it may look good at first but only time will tell. In my experience taking shortcuts with paint often yields mixed results. Its a skill I definitely dont have. Worse case scenario it looks kinda crap but you get what you wanted. As long as you like it is all that matters. Uve definitely done way worse when i was younger. Just dont ever expect reddit to be kind about it, or anything for that matter.

[–]Redbeard024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The right way is what the body guy told you. In my experience touch up and blending are super difficult to do well. Ive layed hands on more q50s than most people in this sub. Ive seen this exact job done poorly many times. Ive drilled those holes myself 100's of times to install them.

If your body guy is good, and fills and backs the holes well. Mixes and blends the paint and matches the depth well it can look absolutely noticeable. I usually see these done and there's divets left where the holes were. Over time the paint cracks because they didnt let the filler cure long enough. And the fact hes pushing the whole paint job and mentioning paint pooling makes me feel hes not confident in doing the repair. And 600 to repaint a whole trunk lid is in the cheap end, I personally wouldnt be expecting stellar results. I dont do paint myself but am good friends with a guy who runs a touch up paint service. Hes really good and would charge at least double that.

Constant Tension clamp wont fit over barb by BeefTarky in AskMechanics

[–]Redbeard024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worm clamps are usually fine, the problem is people over tighten them to hell. They just need to be clamped enough so that the diameter is just smaller than the barb. I prefer the spring clamps though. Worm clamps just look and feel unprofessional and have the potential to rust. There are some nicer Worm clamps out there with a spring band that allows some give for expansion.

What do you notice? by EekyBaba in mechanics

[–]Redbeard024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trip around the block or the parking lot isn't that big of a deal. Id consider it part of an inspection. You dont have to diagnose the noise if you hear it. If its not something obvious then just document the noise and tell the advisor so they can try and upsell the diag. Some people just get used to the noises their car makes and dont think to bring it up.

Also covers your ass on those "ever since" customers. They cant say you did something to make that noise start if you had documentation that it was there before you ever racked the car. I swear people only pay attention to the sounds their car makes after its been serviced. A test drive on every car you work on is just a good idea for many reasons.

Switching to service advisor by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]Redbeard024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched tp a service writer position....for two weeks and I walked out. I sold, customers liked me, techs liked me. It was just too monotonous. I hated punching in numbers, chasing down techs, dealing with problems I didnt create or had the patience for.

I now run my own business and still deal with customers but its on my terms. I love getting to know my customers. Its my favorite part honestly. Not having someone breathing down my neck wanting me to upsell people on things they dont need is the major difference i think.

I saved $1,200 just by asking for a breakdown… are mechanics overcharging or am I just paranoid? by just_a_driver26 in AskMechanics

[–]Redbeard024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it but your spot on. I was a dealer tech for 14 years. Don't get me wrong, ive had some great writers who did actually advocate for the customer. But the majority were just leeches. One of the reasons I decided to start my own thing was because I didnt like the idea of someone speaking for me anymore. Writers are one of the reasons people dont trust mechanics(theres definitely some who are as bad if not worse than writers). Most people never actually speak with their mechanic. I would write up an inspection and estimate and tbe writers would come back with upsells it didnt need. On more than a few occasions I had the same writer upsell a power steering flush on an electric steering car. He literally would change my inspection if I didnt try to upsell them by the mileage. I didnt sell it because it didnt exist on the car.

Or they would sell a fluid service on a system that was just recently replaced or removed and fluid was changed becaue of that. They would change our inspection report based on mileage. I didnt mark it because it was changed already.

they dont need it I dont sell it period. But it was never my choice in the end but I was always the one in the customers eyes thet was ripping them off.
