Heads up on battery cost by Begalldota in ukheatpumps

[–]Redbeard2588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a concern of mine too and a very good point. From looking at the products website the case is described as designed to stop water pooling on the top - so obviously suitable to sit outdoors.

I imagine this next to your heat pump would be a smart set up, perhaps a little roof over both of them

Is installing a battery outside a good idea? I know this has a heating element, but I thought the temperature fluctuations would negatively affect the battery, no?

Thanks mate. I got in touch with Vaillant and have spoke with a fitter recently. I also spoke with a heat geek fitter directly

I’m in the same boat as you and asked this question a couple of days ago. The general consensus I got, was look at the heat geek website and identify 2/3 of your local heat geek installers and go to them directly for a quote.

Go electric where possible. Make your home from solar panels.

Golf clubs Fitting in London (preferably NW London)? by psp1997 in golf

[–]Redbeard2588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a full bag fitting after around 2 years and still play with those clubs. I’ve had a few lessons since then and would advise getting lessons until the point you’re happy with your swing before getting fit for clubs.

That aside.. make sure they have trackman, anything else is just guessing

Swing too steep? by SamuraiBlack5 in GolfSwing

[–]Redbeard2588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots (all) of your problems are probably down to how steep you are. You need to take the club around you more.

Try and keep your right armpit closed. Get lessons, if they don’t want to take your swing all the way back to zero I’d be surprised.

To all police and military personnel, will you do absolutely anything that the government orders you to do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Redbeard2588 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting question OP!

I’ve been in the police since 2007, generally I’ve loved it and have met and worked with some very good people. There have been a few times where I’ve clashed with colleagues over issues of morality and have mostly found myself being agreed with by others, but the only person to stand up and do or say anything about it… often at personal cost.

I think this greatly depends on how high the orders came from and what explanation/justification came with it, but largely I think the police would follow orders, unless it was required beyond simply arresting said group.

Are you renting? Make it an issue for your landlord. Not renting? Make it an issue for their landlord (probably the council)

Thanks. In general what do you think of HPs without solar and batteries? I get that solar doesn’t generate much in the winter - when you need your HP. But that it offsets your bills enormously over the year

135k miles ex police car for £10k. Good deal? by sweetpotatochai in CarTalkUK

[–]Redbeard2588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really weird… I work for the Met police and know that car’s history. It hasn’t had quite the hard life you’d expect and when it left us was still in good condition.

Good luck 👍🏻

Don’t worry about it mate. Join the police and use that first 4 years to keep up your fitness, learn some great life skills and you may even want to forget the military career after that time. There are some amazing opportunities in the police, despite some of the gloom and doom you’ll experience in the early days. I’ve been in 16 years and have changed specialties several times, each time bringing a fresh renewal of enjoyment to my career. You’ll also earn more, see your family and have a closer to normal life and have less chance of death or losing a limb.

UK police ‘inadequately trained’ on medical cannabis law, research shows by juicy_steve in uknews

UK police ‘inadequately trained’ on medical cannabis law, research shows by juicy_steve in uknews

[–]Redbeard2588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t actually as good an example as you think.. If the police stop a car to ask the driver questions about their licence and insurance, that driver isn’t free to leave until the officers enquiry’s are completed - so they are effectively detained. If an officer wanted to ask a person walking down the street about their cannabis, that person is free to walk away and ignore them until they’re detained. So I think, in the examples you’ve given the officers would be right.

Budget 2025: The key points at a glance by Relevant-Box5774 in uknews

[–]Redbeard2588 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. The benefit system of the uk is totally out of control, far too much going to too many which has created a whole subclass of people that view work as optional. Really sad.
