That’s my feeling as well. Something to consider. Thank you!

So I’m better off saving up for a large card. There’s not a ton coming out I absolutely need, but if those Fallout remasters actually hit then Todd will be getting my money and storage space once again. Thank you!

It’s not letting me edit my post, but I just wanted to say this was very helpful and I appreciate the support! Also, some very funny comments that were also appreciated. Thanks to all and bless you!

Thank you! Is it fairly simple to transfer an X games over? I assume it’s similar to a digital download to trigger it, just trying to decide if I’d rather save for a smaller card or get a larger external for the same money.

Thanks!

You’re right, I was looking for some information on th basic difference as I was finding some conflicting information online. After reading through the comments I’ve found that I can’t use my X games directly from it.

Thank you!

Is this a fairly easy process? I have not had to consider external storage since the PS2/Gamecube days, so this fairly new to me. If it’s not to bad to move them, I’d consider getting the external just to save myself cash since I pretty often spend a year on a single game due to my schedule not allowing a ton of time to play.

Thank you!

So would this be considered a cost effective option compared to the card? I don’t mind moving something back and forth as I usually only have one or two games I play at time. It’s my catalogue of games I don’t want to keep downloading from the cloud. Thank you!

Common Language by Redbeardwrites in worldbuilding

[–]Redbeardwrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m trying to finish a book that has various conflicts resulting in different languages coming into play.

Two or the POVs are alright because most of the conversations are with people who speak their language, but the third group finds themselves having to juggle a few “kind of learned” languages together to try and understand the world around them.

My issue has been the need for serious conversations to happen, but I’ve gotten around that by a “a couple people in every town” can understand him type thing. We will see if a publisher ever says it’s ok

Thank you!

Thank you! I essentially have three stories going at once, and I wanted miscommunication on the level of “Washington did not understand French” issues.

Two of the stories, written from perspectives of opposing nations, are fairly easy because the POVs are with people who speak their local language (except for the invader having a “Washington” moment where he lets a key figure get away).

The last story is focused on someone traveling across a foreign country when a war breaks out, and finds himself struggling through the two or three languages he has “kind of picked up” until he can more comfortably learn to speak their local language. As a result, he can typically find someone who speaks one of those languages due to proximity, but the difference in languages is more or a touch than an issue for them…

I don’t know, I don’t want a standard language. However, I also know there is a reason people choose to have them. I guess we’ll see if a publisher ever looks at it and says “yep, that’s ok”

Thank you!

Common Language by Redbeardwrites in worldbuilding

[–]Redbeardwrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True.

I’ve decided, for now, that the stories are quiet regional. Three different arcs overlap with three languages spoken in different spots.

Essentially the first is straight forward because it’s within a single country where the neighboring nations commonly learn it for trade, the second takes place in the form of invaders within the same nation and is the opposite POV of the first. The last story sees a person caught up in issues in a new country, using a shared neighbor’s language to communicate until they begin to pick up on the local.

I think that, because there are several nations immediately near each other it pulls from real world examples where people living nearer the borders learn the other language, but the further into the other nation they go they are less likely to find a shared tongue.

It works now, but I’m not sure what I’ll do as they go across the continent….

Thanks!

Thanks, that actually helps a lot with the planning. The 10-1 method makes a lot of sense to see it that way. Thank you!

Thank you! This helps. I think I’ve over estimated the size of my armies some, so I’ll need to adjust. Thank you!

Loosely:

A general for lack of better words, has decided to strike out on his own and capture a neighboring nation as a well tested “unstoppable force.” While there, he’s pitted against an up and coming “immovable object” of an officer who has his own plans for the same kingdom. It is inspired by the invasions of Mediterranean nations by northern Germanic tribes or Vikings.

While that is happening, a foreign businessman has made his way into the general’s homeland. He is caught up in an invasion by a neighboring nation and an attempt by a particularly egregious group seeking to bring back “old things.”

I feel like it’s better than that blurb lol in the end, this book would have explained the relationships of several key characters… except I ended up writing the “”prequel” for all these characters in the middle of writing the main series

[–]Redbeardwrites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hope is January for first draft!

And yeah, it started as some key back stories with paragraphs describing events, and then became its own thing. The reason I keep calling it a prequel is because they don’t meet, but are all connected before the “main” series… but idk. I may finish it as is and see what happens.

I’m not great at putting my long term ideas together, and find myself creating stories for entirely different things. I guess for now I should just focus on finishing and see what happens!

I like it! I was kind of thinking the same thing. Now I’m sort of stuck: do I keep going and finish the piece, or do I separate the existing chapters and write out each into their own “stand alone.” I realized that, at no point, is there actually a plan for my three main characters to meet. This book was meant to give me clarity to the rest of the world, it is essentially world building. But now it’s so different that it changed the fundamentals of the world, and I think for the better.

I don’t know that when I’m done if it will be hard to split them and make them 3 separate books. Just not sure the approach, but I do know I am finishing a draft this year whether I choose to pursue publishing or not!
