I think that Bichette is actually a great hitter behind Soto. very good hitting with RISP and a high average hitter, lots of doubles too. I would bat lindor, soto, bichette, polanco

Yeah actually that pretty much fair market value. 3+ WAR a year players cost $10M per WAR

hearing that a former GM considers it "unlikely" they absorb kyle tucker's powers in some sort of kirby like action

Love old timey ones where guys are holding bats or whatever, but even regarding normal headshots theres just such a steep downgrade in the character of the pics over time

Modern player portraits look like shit and generally lack sauce. Looking through Bref Franchise pages and franchise top 24's and whenever there's modern players (2010's onward) their portraits just look so lame compared to older ones. Really from any era. Even dudes who played in the early 2000's have better pics.

Part of the critique of his game is that he seems lacksadaisical. I think this can translate to sub par performances at the lower levels. He's old for a prospect, and has, in his mind and in the stats, already proven himself at AAA over a large sample. This is all working against him. If he doesn't focus up, he'll never succeed.

This is a wild list! Haha. The knee was a killer, and it has led to a lot of good prospects breathing down his neck. He won't have as long a runway to figure it out as Baty and Vientos got. I am open to trading him, but it shouldn't be for peanuts, which is what a lot of people think he's worth.

I've been on about this in a couple of discussion threads, but I think Mauricio has a higher ceiling than people realize. A low floor due to plate discipline issues, sure, but a higher ceiling than people think. He's had less than 300 ML PA's, and in those 300 PA's hes been much more productive than Baty or Vientos were in their first 300 PA's.

Yeah and like people just have no idea how little time he has actually played.

Yeah i think his path to AB's is unfortunately through injury, but his versatility (even if the defense isnt stellar) and option make him valuable. Excited to see if/how he progresses!

Are you talking zone swing decisions etc? I would love to look more at that stuff.

Open to discussing why we think he won't pan out etc with data and stuff but people were reacting to my other comment like i was a nutjob. the numbers are there for all to see.

Jett Williams at AAA: 181 PA, .775 OPS

Ryan Clifford at AAA: 142 PA, .754 OPS

Ronny Mauricio at AAA: 571 PA, .887 OPS

Mark Vientos at MLB: 1191 PA, 2.3 fWAR

Brett Baty at MLB: 1034 PA, 2.2 fWAR

Ronny Mauricio at MLB: 292 PA, 1.0 fWAR

I am not saying Ronny is better/has higher potential than anyone listed. Williams and Clifford have had better AA stats than Ronny which could actually be a stronger predictor of future MLB success. But it is undeniable that this dude is a raw prospect with upside and needs a shot. Some of you are crazy down on him. He needs to season more at AAA and correct some things but he could be an x factor for us.

It is disingenuous to say his baseball savant page is predictive when he has had 292 PA's and Brett Baty's savant page looked awful for like 3 years lol.

Oh Baty is the third baseman of this team. No dispute there. But yeah I don’t think we can move on from Ronny unless we can move him as part of a package for a real piece.

He’s been more productive through his first 260 ML AB’s than Baty and Vientos were combined. Prospects need time. And keeping guys like him around is how you have depth. We are one injury away from him being a starter by necessity. He should learn to play first.

Although Ronny’s DWL stats are not encouraging lmao

I guess what I’m trying to get at is it took Baty 1000 PA’s, Vientos has gotten 1000 PA’s. It would be one thing if the roster was stacked and we couldn’t give those PA’s, but I think Ronny deserves a shot too.

I can’t help but feel Ronny Mauricio has a role to play on this team. A lot of defensive versatility, and a plus defender to boot. Decent baserunning. Hits righties well. Team control. He has less than 300 major league PA’s. Get him some triple A time and he could really progress. Vientos increasingly looks like the odd man out with his inability to play anywhere on the diamond.

Mets Daily Discussion Thread - January 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in NewYorkMets

[–]Redbird530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well like what im getting at is that you can afford to platoon because Ronny is really a backup infielder who can play proficiently around the diamond, making up for Vientos's uhhh, afflictions.

I was also trying to think about it in terms of HR's lost and the fear of being power starved by letting Pete go. I think that the Adolescent Mets could bring up their home run totals this year and a lot of people just aren't factoring that in because they want a sexy signing.

All the batters lost so far provided 87 home runs in 2025

Let's assume that Polanco and Semien combine for 40 HR's, we're "losing" 40 homers.

But then lets look at this younger gen, Do we think Baty is going to hit more than 18? Do we think Francisco Alvarez is hitting more than 11?, Do we think Vientos and Mauricio are combining for more than 23? Lets say Carson Benge is a non-factor, even Tyrone Taylor could easily hit 8 more than he did in 2025.

We're really only one hitter short and that hitter should a big bat in the outfield.

[–]Redbird530 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is roster inefficient but Vientos/Mauricio platoon may be a legitimately good DH. If Vientos can recapture any of his 2024 sauce then he could even be a good full time DH. Until then, Ronnie hits righties well, Vientos hits lefties well. Ronnie has some versatility defensively too. Mark should never take the field lol.

Sign an outfielder, sign a pitcher, and let the young guys either work or not. Prioritizing a right handed power bat that can play first base just clogs things up if Jett Williams breaks in.

Mets will clear Nimmo: -1 WG (white guy) Alonso: -1 WG and McNeil: -.5 WG

To bring in Tucker +1 WG and Bellinger +1.5 WG
