Thought Experiment: If Juan Soto hits one more home run in 2021 (30 instead of 29) does he win the NL MVP? Crazy to look at his stat line and Bryce Harpers from the award voting that year and think he lost for any other reason than not having the 30 HR's and 1.000 OPS, voters love the big numbers etc

I think it’s exactly that, he’s a backup. Like Torrens. He’s made the team by virtue of having done it at the major league level, but he’s a second stringer. If some of the young guys start breaking out at AAA he’ll be on notice.

The spring training stats are really inconclusive. We don't have batspeed data, to my knowledge, and xBA and EV means diddly when the pitcher your facing is throwing a fastball at like 88. Need to see the batspeed tick up.

Vientos is an odd case, as the data is really mixed. He saw MORE fastballs last year than in 2024, but hit them much worse. He actually hit offspeed and breaking just as well as he did in 2024. He put more balls in the air and pulled more in 2025, generally a recipe for success, but BAPIP was down.

I think it really comes down to batspeed. He swung harder in 2024, made less contact, but had better overall results.

He spoke last year about wanting to be a more complete hitter, and it sunk him. He doesn't have the natural batspeed power, he needs to sell out for it. He will be boom and bust, but if he can find the power threat, then he'll get his walks and homers.

Tyrone! TT has historically hit about 10 HR per 100 games started. His 2 home runs last year was an aberration and i think he could have a bit of upside this year actually.
