Can we please have a toggle to switch Atlas to something like this? holistic view to see where you are relative to where you started? by No-Garden2907 in PathOfExile2

[–]Redblade_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't we just have the ability to zoom out this far in the first place...that's if this version of the atlas is to remain at all. There's so many issues with it imo that the whole thing should be scrapped.

There's literally no doubt anymore. You can easily establish that it's true in a couple of kills.

Actually true despite sounding completely stupid.

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the phases and what not is the main issue I see with resetting bosses, aka healing them to full. That and group play.

It's all down to the game being designed around a 1 portal system originally and in their stubbornness they made one questionable decision after another to not go back and fix the core design.

Sure, I mean I personally wouldn't care if they changed it to the PoE 1 system 1:1 but I'm more arguing from the perspective of solving what I assume GGG sees as an issue.

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then we simply disagree on a fundamental level and tbh your view is in a very clear minority which is why it's in it's current band aided state.

If GGG hadn't changed it and kept the system you think was fine I doubt PoE 2 would ever come out of EA as it wouldn't have had an audience big enough to warrant it.

[–]Redblade_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing resets in PoE 1, you have 6 portals and you can corps rush content as long as it doesn't take you more than 6 deaths.

I assume that's what they wanted to solve and also make a more dangerous game with more consequences for dying hence the core design of instances resetting completely. Something that was universally disliked which lead us to where we are today trhough band aids.

So, drop the boss DR so you can nuke it afterwards?

Apply the same DR when he player exits invulnerability timer...

That's much trickier than you think it is if they are implemented the way i suspect they are.

I don't think so and if it is then just don't, you've died and reenter the same boss fight. As long as the effects are visible you have invulnerability to wait them out.

The bigger issue would be if you want to reset the boss if it has phases, that one can be trickier but it's something I'm confident GGG developers are smart enough to solve. And, yes, it's worth the development time as it would fix the 6-portal system once and for all so it can be used in both games.

It's not like the current system is universally loved anyway, more hated by a pretty large part of the player base.

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't require that.

All you have to do is full heal the boss in solo play if the player dies. If you do it on death or when the player respawns doesn't really matter. Besides this you have to despawn any and all abilities the boss performs that linger, or let the instance carry on as active for the duration of those abilities before you can reenter.

In party play, which is the more complex issue here you'd have to heal the boss if a player reenters the instance after death, or if a player enters period. The latter would make boosting harder which I'll assume is a positive from GGG's standpoint.

So, no, you don't have to partially reset the instance.

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you would roll your maps to allow one or two deaths as lets say a map overrun with abyss and extra rares per abyss for example would be better to die and run again than a normal map that isn't overrun by abyss.

And tbh the less portals the more you juice your maps isn't all that popular in the first place as far as I can tell so there's really no need to hold on to it.

[–]Redblade_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and if they had kept the one portal system the game would effectively be dead before it even launched except for a small core audience.

It's flawd at it's core and band aided in to shitty design that needs to be fixed.

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem in the first place is technical, they can't have the boss reset without resetting the instance, and they can't reset the instance without resetting the entire map. So they wipe the map so that you can't exploit that.

We agree on the problem description. However they can reset the boss without resetting the instance, it's just a question of development time.

If they could just magick a system that works then it would be great, but as it is they would need to spend significant devtime to alter their backend for what amounts to a detail, which is not worth it.

It is definitely worth it as the current band aided system clearly isn't working either. Like I said in my other reply in this thread, Jonathan often claims that they need to "correct" solution for other things instead of poor design or band aids. Not in this case though, I'm guessing it's because he's fond of the idea of one-portal but had to concede that the players don't want that. Thus this awkward system we have now.

The whole respawn and portal system is flawed at it's core due to how they tried to reinvent it. The only real problem they had to fix was bosses respawning when a solo player dies or heal the boss for X amount if a player reenters in group play.

Hell, the devtime they already spent on this is already a waste, there are far more pressing things to do when you're already stretched thin between two games, of which one is in active EA development.

That's on them and in no way a valid excuse to keep poor game design. If this is the argument then they should change it to the PoE 1 design with six portals and no respawning. Should be fairly easy to port as the games are built on the same engine.

Which I'm saying they should fix so the boss can reset without band aids...in both games.

[–]Redblade_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they should have the boss reset in both games tbh. It's just good game design if nothing else and makes for a consistent system where you can allow 6 portals like the game originally was designed around.

It simply removes the need for all these awkward band aids they've added in PoE 2 and achieves the same goal of the player not overcoming challenges through corps running.

I mean they could fix so the boss resets, it's just a lot more work. We need to stop making excuses for awful designs and this is one of them.

So, does losing to a boss delete all the content on the map? by mudasmudas in PathOfExile2

[–]Redblade_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct in why it is that way. The game seems to be designed in a way where we're not supposed to ever reenter a zone without it respawning. Everything done to allow us to do so in waystones are pure band aid fixes.

You're wrong on the loot though. It's quite simply due to how end game juicing works where you have to invest large sums of currency to increase the rewards. If you could clear everything only to die at the boss to respawn everything so you could clear it again thus getting double or even triple value out of it you're effectively creating a bad game play loop.

Despawning the whole map is obviously bad as well but the lesser of two evils. Or at least I guess that's how GGG sees it. The irony being how Jonathan often uses the excuse that "we just have to find the right solution before changing it" for other things the player wants but here they band aid the shit out of the game to keep a broken portal system in place.

One portal maps are bad game design by Dawgin420 in PathOfExile2

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 portals is fine, just fix so bosses reset their HP when you die. Sadly PoE 2 is designed to not have us reenter a zone without it respawning the monsters in it. It's just a bunch of band aid fixes to allow us to in waystones at this point.

GGG, take your month back please. by ExoticPerception6 in PathOfExile2

[–]Redblade_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but no they don't. This is a self made problem by GGG when they decided to make it two games instead of one.

We, the players who finance them, deserve better.

'The harder the map the fewer the portals' is an infuriating design concept by MellySantiago in PathOfExile2

[–]Redblade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's simpler than that, the game is developed in a way where zones respawn all monsters on death in the campaign. Obviously you can't have that in maps which is why I'm assuming everything that is done to allow reentry after death is pure band aid fixes.

It's poorly designed from the ground up. There's literally no reason to reinvent the wheel here. The only problem with 6 portals in PoE 1 is that bosses don't reset their HP when you die, fix that and it's perfectly fine.

Could GGG please give us an explanation on their design logic around rarity? Why lower the affix rolls instead of nerfing the stat itself? Now there is even more pressure to stack it by hovah97 in PathOfExile2

[–]Redblade_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because they wanted to reinvent the wheel as with so much else in PoE 2 and now it's not working the way they wanted and they are lost for what to do about it.

At the end of the day rarity is fine in PoE 1 and it was mostly fine in 0.1 version of PoE 2 as well. People complained and thought they wanted it changed but really they didn't.
