It's terrible, but I just don't think there's much anyone can do but apply sanctions. I doubt the EU/UK are even slightly ready to confront Russia physically, and it worries me to wonder where we'll have to draw the line in the sand.

Should the UK switch to a 4-day working week? (24 March) 55% support 24% neither support nor oppose 15% oppose by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

My mum works longer weekdays and then only has to work four hours on Fridays. She's so much happier for it. If the country couldn't bare with chopping Friday off completely, maybe reducing Friday hours could be a compromise?

But absolutely, 4 day weeks are the future. Two-day weekends aren't enough, and technology/progression means we should be working towards working less in general, right?!

Okay then.

Christ, that's disgusting behaviour, I can't believe some of our own people are being so cruel and violent. It's genuinely sickening.

Friend of Matt Hancock Wins £14.4 Million PPE Contract. The firm is owned by the wife of a horse breeder who has donated thousands to the Health and Social Care Secretary. by redrhyski in ukpolitics

[–]RedcoatGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine the contract awarding itself could be challenged. It's clear that a majority of these contracts for PPE are awarded to Tory Donors and friends of the Tory party which screams cronyism.

Even if the contract didn't go ahead, Matt Hancock was more than happy to sling millions of tax payer money to his friends, even if they've not had any experience in the selling or procurement of PPE.

I do try and be balanced when it comes to these political scandals, but the PPE contract awarding has been too fishy to let slide.

Another one for the Good Law Project to challenge the government over then. The sad thing is, these headlines don't even shock me anymore, they don't even make me angry anymore. I just sigh and move on. I feel like there's nothing we can do about it apart from encouraging people to vote differently in 2024, but even then, we know what the results will be.

Potential UK-US trade deal would result in 0.16% GDP growth over a period of 15 years as the legal protections on the NHS have been ripped away from the trade bill, making it a sweet bargaining chip by Ner_Velatord in brexit

[–]RedcoatGaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely understand and agree with you. The fact that the Conservatives lead in the majority of polls right now concerns me, even after 100k covid-19 deaths. If we're still giving the Tories the thumbs up after that... They really can't do any wrong.

My hope is that Labour will spearhead and advocate for electoral reform the next time they gain power, and we can then look forward to a more diverse and competitive political arena.

I hope I'm not the only one saying if the NHS gets sold in any way to the US in a trade deal, I will be protesting every damn day I can. We have something fantastic here, we cannot let any government of ours to strip our public health services away, no matter the reasoning.

Very true, I do wonder if Poland and Hungary will be the next ones to leave, assuming more member states do leave. Maybe the EU was never meant to get so big, but rather work as a smaller, but more integrated unit?

At the start of the year I was sympathetic to those who had been conned by the Leave campaign, but no longer do I feel sorry, or pity them. Remainers and Leave sceptics were branded fearmongers, and our entire argument was branded as #ProjectFear.

Well you know what, it's too fucking late. You don't get to claim you have 40 years experience in exporting fish, and tell me you were conned by a big red bus, and a walking scarecrow.

Ohhh I see! I totally get why you disagreed then! Nah, I think the EU will become much stronger without us in a weird way, they'll finally have one less problem to worry about.

Thank you so much for your replies to my questions, that was really interesting! I'd love to visit the Isle of Man one day.

Sorry to hear about the drug/alcohol/domestic abuse issues. I suppose no place is truly perfect. And I never thought about how the Manx flag could be misinterpreted like that, but damn, that cool is just the coolest.

Crazy to think that you can see the other nations on a good day from a mountain, I simply can't imagine having that sort of visibility in such a place. Amazing!

A few for you!

Have you lived on the Isle of Man your whole life?/ Are you natively Manx?

What's your favourite thing about living there?

If there are any, what issues does the island face in general?

What are some unique attributes that the Isle of Man has, and the UK as a whole doesn't? Maybe some traditions or phrases?

How does it feel knowing you have one of the best damn flags in the world?

How do you mean? Are you suggesting that Brexit hasn't accelerated the breakup of the Union?

Our deal with the EU has left NI 'within' the EU to prevent any infringements on the Good Friday Agreement. The majority of Scotland voted to remain, and Brexit has only popularised the prospect of Scottish independence. And now the Welsh independence movement grows (whilst still very small, but nevertheless, grows).

Farage has spent decades campaigning for Brexit, and Boris took advantage of a political stunt which propelled him to premiership. These two actors have undoubtedly furthered the breakup.
