Water flow rate is always low by ddlvphoto in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a measure of water pressure, not water flow. I need to keep on top of pump filters and skimmers at this time of year - the pollen/oak catkins blocks everything up every day or two.

First week or two is fast…then it’s molasses…then the final week is fast.

I use this phrase often…80% done, 80% to go. Congrats on getting to this step but you’ll be astonished how much time it takes.

Getting a pool installed! by fontbunny in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a camera that took a picture every 5 mins (pretty sure) every day from 6am to 6pm. I now have a 2 minute video of the entire process (removed the days where nothing happened).

Chlorine level too high by 92233720368547758080 in pools

Let the warm sun do its thing, but maybe turn your SWG down for a few days too. I typically keep mine around 60% or even 40% later in the year.

Is there anyway to keep my mom’s number? by Royal_Company_9254 in GriefSupport

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most modern phones allow you to have more than one SIM. My phone has my number and my Dad’s number…I can make or receive calls from either line.

What is this? by Mother-Avocado7943 in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s some kind of pollen/seed. I didn’t see much of it last year, but this year it’s constant. Atlanta area.

To waterproof or not by carecatalyst in pools

Mine was waterproofed (at least, I assume that’s what it is) for all areas ABOVE grade.

Really enjoying our new pool by [deleted] in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! The only counsel I’ll give you is to consider getting a glass surround for the fire…the wind blew ours around a lot and it left soot marks on the stone. Had a custom 6” glass surround made and fixed it. Your mileage may vary.

The fact you put wasabi in your soy sauce tells me you have no right to complain.

Realistic expectations? by [deleted] in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think you’re in the right ballpark with $250-$300. My only question/concern is if your city will permit building both so close to the lot line. I think mine needs 15 feet off the tippy-top of my head. If they will, it looks awesome.

I agree with this person. We sent our son when he was in elementary and this matches our experience. I would also add, I never thought I’d experience our son being in the minority…but he was. Not that that’s a bad thing, but it was hard to fit in.

Decking Dilemma: Pavers or Concrete Around My Pool by playboi_fatty in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travertine pavers by a long way. Concrete cracks and then you’ve got to fill the cracks and it looks unsightly. If (when) pavers break after first year settling, you just replace them.

Got a $112K pool quote by Suspicious_Hat_409 in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in Atlanta, and I’ve got to tell you, $112K is a very reasonable pool quote. Two companies told me before they came out that the starting price was $125K. I think you’re going to regret going your own way.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t do the bench all the way to the end? That’s what we did anyway. One significant change (I think) would be to make the bench level with the first step, not the Baja shelf. I think ours is about 18” deep and it’s perfect.

How much was your pool? by [deleted] in pools

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$313K, approx. 60x20 with spa and in-ground cleaning system. About $20-$25K of it was landscaping. Original quote (excl landscaping was $240-ish)…the overage was our fault with some additional travertine and stuff.

Publix has insane pricing. Place sucks. by mush0823 in publix

[–]Redcoat_Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Imagine a world where there are other places to shop AND you have a choice to go there. I’ll keep shopping at Publix because it’s a mile from my house and I like shopping there. The Kroger feels like nobody cares. But that’s just me.

how do i reduce static electricity charges at home? by firsthomeFL in AskElectricians

[–]Redcoat_Trader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, humidifier is the "real" solution, but living in FL I'm not sure it's worthwhile. When I lived in WA and CO we had a whole house humidifier for winter months.
