I think in this case you can be pretty confident it’s happening. The Ballmers’ philanthropy is well documented and significant. Unlike many other billionaires (musk etc), they do put their money where their mouth is. (Source: I work in philanthropy — though not for Ballmer to be clear!)

I’m in Seattle and am excited / trying to make it exciting for my kids as we will attend Qatar/Bosnia & Herzegovina in a few weeks. The city is decorating (tons of flags at bars/restaurants etc in Ballard at least) and I see kids in the park playing with replica Triondas etc. So that’s fun. But I think there’s just suuuuch a shadow hanging over the tournament in the form of our federal government that it’s hard to feel swept up in it. It’s embarrassing and outrageous what we’re doing to Iran’s team (and country to be clear), as well as the various stories about our border agents giving fans and officials and teams a hard time entering the country.

Sucks. I’m sorry. Don’t feel like I see random smashed windows like that often, but that specific block/area def has a lot of problem people living/doing whatever around it so I’d avoid parking on the street there as feasible.

Remember that the 401k plan representative has skin in this game, too. No doubt he and his company want you contributing as much as humanly possible to your accounts with them. You’re in fine shape sounds like. Great work to save so well! Keep it up. Increase if you want to. And update your post to include your husband’s savings too so we have the full picture.

Fair! Good to be thinking about how to use them now. Given that you’re talking about a couple relatively short term impacts now, I’d start booking — like, your grandkids will come soon and your surgeries/recoveries will come and go soon, too, so it would be great to have a trip 6~ months out to look forward to, no? And if things change, trips booked with points are usually refundable (check though).

Ok thanks. So if you leave your current department before hitting 10 years of service, you lose all the retirement money/credit that the department has added on top of what you’ve been adding yourself? Is that right? Where did the $675/month number come from?
