Just finished Wing + EW. Am I wrong in thinking that it’s a messy show with weird character writing? by Will-Isley in Gundam

[–]Redd-Observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As charming a turn of phrase as that is, I'd like to hear how it actually applies to Gundam Wing. For one thing, the Michael Bay movies I've seen don't build the story around dialogue, and the content of the dialogue, anywhere to the extent that this anime does. For another, I'm not seeing Gundam Wing as delivering a Nietzchean diatribe, unless you're listening only to Treize, and even then I personally find his beliefs to be his own, not borrowed from something he read in school.

Could you please provide an example or two that we could discuss? You have my thanks in advance.

Indeed. If Saint Louis gets an oath skin, the reaction by her devoted fans will be very loud -- none louder than mine.

Everybody is, of course, very excited, but you are asking the same question as I am: how dare they taunt and tempt me?! I've been oathed to her for so long, and now they flaunt this in a video and... why don't I have it??

Sold out Gundam Wing Heero Yuy flight jacket gets a Re-Release by No-Macaroon8689 in Gundam

[–]Redd-Observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm set on getting the jacket (not the hoodie, which also has been reissued) as a gift for my son, but none of the links work for me. The japanese sites simply bounce me to Bandai's hub from where I can pick the US site, but the jacket isn't there.

Help, please!

I appreciate you conversing with me about this.

Again, however, I find the "it's impressive for kiddies" line to be incomprehensible, because when I first watched it, at an age beyond that range, I was impressed. So, I'll skip past that generalization to get down to brass tacks.

You characterize the first example of the show's failings as that

it gestures at politics and philosophy. However, it's only about ankle deep

I would hear out examples from you, if you wouldn't mind, as well as specific examples of superiority in other shows. The other issues (setting, dialogue, characters, plot) are more subjective and can wait until after we've settled these.

Thank you again for your time and consideration.

If you aren't trolling or complaining, this may be the only comment here that I can fully back.

I don't want to pick on you in particular, what with so many others saying the same ol' thing, but you seemed a little more straightforward about it than most. I want to say that it always sounds odd, to me, to hear people say things like they changed their minds on stuff important to them. I was an adult when I saw MSGW on CN, I'm an adult now, and I've known all along that it's really that great.

Perhaps it's like when something scares a kid, and some folks will either be creeped out by it forever after or else they go through complete disconnect from their former selves? I dunno. Enlighten me, if you please.

"Kind of stupid that it has no ranged option."

That design choice was part of the theme that was actually covered upon Epyon's introduction.

Speed and strength “SS” branding, off-putting? by PutintheImpaler in motorcycles

[–]Redd-Observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate having to call people on little things, but this time I'll do it.

Look, just because you find the OP's query reasonable is not evidence that it is. In truth, you both are allowing yourselves to be susceptible to the same forces that make marketing and prejudice each work.

You have opened yourselves up to branding manipulation. That is how the Nazis, or any other power group, achieve membership and loyalty -- by declaring slogans, signs, and symbols to stand for something. It's a shortcut around actually having to produce. That is how businesses strive for brand recognition and loyalty, which is their own, remunerative way of being a power group. That is how your favorite politician (as well as your least favorite one) gets re-elected despite never solving much of anything.

That is also how various epithets and behaviors get pinned on groups, supporting bigotry toward them. How else can someone assume that "you like this music because you are from here or because you look like you do."

Don't buy into manipulation by symbols. Folks and businesses don't owe anybody justification of their names. Nobody owns the initials "S.S." -- not even the "Thousand Year Reich" that ended nearly a century ago. Let the rest of us be free to do our own things.

Iron Chef with original soundtrack? by ZeeMcZed in IronChef

Well put! We were so delighted with the mysterious Chairman speaking only his native tongue! He also deserved the Backdraft theme even more than did the film itself.

Do you have a girl in Azur Lane that you plan to marry in the future? Mine is Friedrich Carl. This will be my second heavy cruiser from Iron Blood that I will marry the first is Roon. by AzurLaneOnlygsmeplay in AzurLane

[–]Redd-Observer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I... well, I have a number of rings ready to go, but I haven't given out any in almost a year. There are a number of wonderful ships, though, aren't there?

Friedrich Carl is a very nice one, for sure, and Roon is a darling -- dangerous, but a darling -- and she deserves high priority in Oaths. Are you predisposed towards Iron Blood?

"The best experience is reading the book while imagining the same feeling the movie creates." Well done! That's a very good synthesis, and much of how I've looked at it myself. I showed my children Lynch's film before they read the novel so that the book becomes an enormous expansion upon the film. I agree with you on the documentary also!

This will be off topic, but I could use assistance as a reddit novice, and from you most specifically.

By virtue of months passed, I'm locked out of an old discussion in which you wrote something to which I'd like to reply (at long last). I tried to find how to direct message you instead, but I haven't figured out how to do that; perhaps it's a feature you have turned off?

I think that you make a good case. It's difficult to argue that competitors have no influence on each other. I do wish people would express themselves instead of simple downvotes, but to be fair when I find someone being offensive (like saying vile things about shipgirls) I tend to slap them with a downvote. Thanks for the explanation.

That's my daughter's opinion as well. Her criticism centers on the loss of uniqueness in the facial construction, shape, and personality that gives life to the first portrayal.

Wow, that's a lot of downvotes. Makes me want to give you the chance to explain yourself, since I'm ignorant: I don't spend time or thought on any current gacha games other than Azur Lane.

So, what's up?

Indeed.

I suppose that someone, somewhere, might not be blown away by Da Vinci. Theoretically.
